This campground is in a small town. It is great for a night stop over. The sites are gravel. The staff was helpful, and the shower and bathrooms were spotless. This campground is about 5 years old. I will stay there again. - slewach

My wife and I stayed at Box Hound Marina and RV Park during January and February, 2018 in a motorhome. Large RV site and close to bathhouse for showers and water. Electrical power was available and without any issues, but water was shut off during winter months. Excellent monthly rate. Store with needed RV/marine supplies and some grocery items available. Owner/staff were very friendly and offered all assistance as needed. We will definitely stay here again in the future. - BobbyAl
Apr 2012 - $22.00
We stayed here for a week while preparing my husband's mom's home for sale, and we were pleasantly surprised. We had a great view of the lake. There was a nice beach, marina and store. The property was clean. Unless you're a fisherman, there isn't a lot to do in this area, but I would recommend this campground for an overnight stay. There's a dump station that is locked, so be sure to ask for hours of operation, if you plan to check out early. Three things we didn't care for: there are separate small fees for pets, the beach, extra people, etc. The owners allow their dogs to roam free onto the campsites and they don't pick up their excrement immediately, if at all. And it takes a bit of effort to reach someone to make reservations. Very friendly and I would stay here again if I were passing through this area. The web site shows lots of pictures of fish and doesn't do justice to the property (unless you're a fisherman). The lake is large. Note: don't confuse the town of Horseshoe Bend with the state park with the same name. - Jill B

Our stay was approximately two weeks; wish we could have stayed longer. Entire park very well groomed, laundry facilities, restroom and shower were immaculate. Other amenities included a pool, a catch and release pond, a fire pit area, horseshoe, a very nice library with an abundance of books of various literary genre and a unique walking trail. The owners very friendly and a true desire to make a person welcome. I would recommend Chipmunk Crossing RV Park a thousand times over. Sincerely, Happy Camper - AZtravelers1

Very nice, small, privately owned park located a little "off the beaten path". Owners are an older couple who go out of their way to make your stay perfect. We had a nice gravel pull thru, plenty long, level, with a picnic table. Plenty of space between sites and through out the campground. Lots of shade, nice pool, play area, large free library and a walking path thru the woods. No cable but could pick up several channels with the antenna and had good satellite reception. Catch and release pond also on site. If you are ever in central southern Missouri this is a great park to spend the night. - travelswithpuppies

First Impression: A rare find. A small CG with an attractive presentation. Manicured landscaping and décor. Spacious sites. Safety: no concerns - peaceful. Access: From Arkansas, we came in on MO-142, a twisting, turning, up-and-down, back-road in good condition, then MO-17, a two-lane road in superb condition. GPS found the CG without issue. Good signage, but entrance is a sharp turn with drop-offs on both sides. USE CAUTION - SWING WIDE. Office: Friendly husband/wife owner/manager. $30/night+tax; buy 5, get 7. Facilities: Pool, no spa or fitness room. Rec center with one washer/driver combo and quite a collection of books (hundreds of them), storm shelter, small playground, shuffle board, horseshoes. Catch-and-release fishing pond. Restrooms with showers are modern and ultra-clean (score "A+") but are tiny and can only be used by one person at a time. No fenced dog run but plenty of "yard" for the puppies. No propane sales. Campground: Roads are good gravel with gentle turns but, WARNING, low hanging tree branches. Eighteen sites are a mix of pull-through (x3) and back-in (x15) but no designated tent area. No yurts or cabins. Utilities are at mid-rig; FHU-20/30/50. Sites are packed gravel, level, in good condition. Sewer pipe is 4" PVC, unthreaded, about 6" above ground level. Gravel patio with nice picnic tables. Ground fires not permitted. Adequate well water pressure with good taste. Challenging satellite views (numerous trees), no cable TV, OTA TV found 16 channels. Free Wi-Fi with good coverage and bandwidth. Verizon phone at "1-bar"; 4G at "1-bar". No traffic, railroad, or aircraft noise. Recycle bins for glass, plastic, and aluminum. Bug Report: It rained through most of our entire stay; no insects observed (they probably drowned). Runners: Gravel roads marginal for running, no fitness room so no treadmills. Yoga: Gravel is too rough for mats but grass might be okay. Conclusion: Price just a bit too high for what you get but "Recommended." - StephenK

May 2011 - $26.00
This place was horrible! Not family friendly at all! First off, the road to the campground was two miles long and gravel; very difficult to drive on. There is a train that runs right by every hour, even at night! It was so difficult to sleep. The whole place had a "spring break" like feel to it. The bath houses were filthy and they don't turn on the water heaters until nightfall. We will not be returning! - tawanda
Jun 2010 - $27.00
Was a long dusty road to get to the park (like more than a mile). The check in was fine, except the girl didn't know where the dump station was and put us in a site already occupied. A nice camper went up to the office for us so we didnt' have to drive round and round with the 5th wheel. Nice wide, long, level sites. Some are along the river, most all are in trees. Well kept park with a small store. Also have floats and canoes available for the river. Water pressure was good. 30 amp was weak. We could use the Verizon phone and aircard. Dish worked great. As mentioned before, the train goes through every few hours even at night. We had a strange problem with flies the first day. We had about 40 flies in the rig in the afternoon. For the fly fisherman this was a great spot to go 500 yards from the rig to the river. Fishing was good when kids are not in the water. We would certainly stay here again. - Awesome Navigator
Mar 2010 - $27.00
We happened on to Riverside because it was the only RV campground open in the area in mid-March. There are a couple of important issues. First, they have a very strict rule of no pets, so if you have pets this CG is not for you. Second, it is two miles down a gravel road. It was not too rough when we went in, but it sure gets your rig dirty. If it were wet, it would not be so great. If those two issues are not obstacles for you, then the CG is pretty nice. The CG is right on the Spring River. It seems to cater mostly to fisher people and those floating the river. It is a large CG complete with a small store. In mid-March there were only about 10 other campers. The sites along the river are nicely spaced, but, if it were full, the spaces in the middle would be relatively close together. The spaces are long and fairly level with packed gravel. Some of the sites have shade but most are in the open. The sites have 30 amps and water but no sewer. This is a dump station. When we were there it was quiet, except for the train. If you love trains this CG is for you as they run right past and love to blow their whistle when going past. There were about three trains during the night. The staff was friendly and the CG is well kept. The bathhouse is rustic but clean and nice enough. The grass was well manicured. We would probably not stay here again as a quick overnight. - TheJim

We have used this camp for an overnight stop but will not use again. It is prone to flooding and a lack of maintenance of systems. This is not a good place to stay. - NE Travelers

We thought from the Web info this RV Park sold propane. They didn't and there was no where else to get it. The Park was pretty but the manager of 6 months was pretty nonexistent and the restroom was not cleaned the 3 days we were there. Also, they only take cash or checks. - J_bugs

We drove through Panther Bay and Bidwell Point before deciding to stop at this park for the night. For some reason, the parks are completely unattended on Wednesdays and it is easy to just drive through. The only service provided here is electricity. Upon departure, we could not find the DUMP STATION! So, we went over to Panther Bay, which has a very nice facility. - tundracamper

Our site was spacious, shady and beautiful on the bluff overlooking the lake. Some sites are right in the sun and close together. Water connection was a ways from the site. - Wisesong
Jun 2015 - $10.00
Rate reflects Golden Age Pass. Pretty park, best spaces are away from the water, spaces 1-7 being the best for peace and quiet. Most of lower loop are much closer together. A lot of day use traffic to the beach here, speed limit is 10 MPH, however the cars are moving about 4 times that thru the park. Water pressure is about 65PSI and electric was steady enough. Most sites are fairly level and several of the picnic tables are covered. There is a dump station but it is a long way from the camp ground (1/2 to ¾ miles to haul a tote). Also, trash dumpsters are over ½ mile from the beginning of the camping area. Bathrooms were clean, didn't use showers. There are 2 showers in each restroom. There is ranger presence here but it doesn't deter the speeding. The lower area and beach had high water when we were here, but we stayed on the upper area so it didn't affect us.The surrounding lake is very pretty. Although very busy during the daytime, the park was quiet after hours. The terrain is hilly which makes both walking and biking a bit challenging. Lots of birds and other small animals to enjoy watching. We would stay here again if in this area. - Fixn2gocamp

Very nice Corp Of Engineer park. Well maintained with paved roads and pads. Nearly filled with regular locals but no problem just showing up and finding a great site. - mjtesky

About the water: you can ask for a site with water as many have it, or at least share it with a nearby site. A nice place and a lot people use it, particularly locals. We would come back. The lake is fantastic and just about all, if not all sites overlook the lake and are within a 50 yard walk or less. - CCC

Nice quiet park. Great prices for nightly, weekly and monthly. Wonderful people running it. Bar and Restaurant on site. Swimming pool was smallish but private as well. Lots are good sized, which to us is important. And the Wi-Fi worked really well. They did not have a bath house or laundry facilities and for us that was not a workable situation for return visits, so though we loved it we probably will not return. Another perk, especially if you are a full timer, is that the post office is right across the street. - Gypsyroad
