This was our fourth time staying here and the first time we weren't able to get a "front row" site to the river. The price reflects a site in an area they call the woods. They must have had some flooding since there were gullies dug on either side of the site as you entered. Made it difficult to avoid driving on the grass which is apparently taboo. The hookups were conveniently located and worked fine. The WiFi was non-existent. The picnic table was adequate, although warped from the sun. We were able to get satellite just fine. The bugs at night, mosquitoes, gnats, whatever, were the worst I've ever experienced so we didn't stay outside after dusk. This may have been due to the possible recent flooding. Not sure. We'll come back. We always do. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

We loved this place!!! We stayed here for two nights while visiting the Memphis area. All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. After check in nice gentleman escorted us to our site and explained all of the connections. This park is ON the Mississippi River and our site was close to the water. We enjoyed sitting in our chairs watching the river traffic in the evenings . This is a VERY BASIC RV park and minutes away from the Memphis attractions. Showers were extremely clean with plenty of hot water. I believe most/all of the sites were pull thru and several with concrete pads which can accommodate the big rigs (there was a Provost with a a full size pickup in tow and fit on a site with room to spare !! I guarantee when pulling in from the main road you may question your decision to stay here but trust me and continue on to find this hidden GEM at the end of the road. Easy access off freeway but make sure to Follow the directions on the website and not navigation systems (They tell you this when you call for your reservation). We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

This park is recovering from the flooding along the Mississippi River earlier this year. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Roads are in poor condition. Our spot still had dried silt and sand on it and was tracked in our RV. This park will be nice eventually but for now it is not worth the price we paid. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed one night while traveling through, and the park had just re-opened after flooding. What a great treat to be right at the level of the water and at the water's edge to watch shipping traffic. Otherwise, an unremarkable stay at an older campground. Water and Electric were fine but the ground was still soaking soaking wet (not the fault of mgmt, however). We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful place to stay. Right on the river. The park was a little rough because of recent river flooding but they are working hard to replace the bath house and toilets. Really enjoyed watching the river and the ships. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

We were right on the river. Level concrete pad, good electric, water and great wi-fi. It rained and the road was a little muddy the next morning, but considering that this park has flooded several times this year they are doing a great job. Granddaughter said the tugboats woke her up during the night but we did not hear them. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park has just reopened after some serious flooding, so there were lots of washouts and the gravel streets needed some grading to fill in the dips and potholes. It's obvious they have been trying to keep up with the repairs due to the flooding, but the grass was in dire need of cutting and the trees could use some pruning. We had originally reserved a week, but the flooding and weather changed all that, and they immediately and graciously refunded our deposit. They were also very accommodating when we changed plans again, and decided to stay with them overnight. We followed their directions to a T (even calling to be sure) and still ran into some pretty severe construction down on MLK Blvd. Ended up losing a fender and a tire in that battle, but can't really hold the park accountable for that. The river was still pretty high, and flowing pretty quickly, so that may have impeded boat traffic somewhat. We only saw one tug pushing 2 barges and one freighter. I guess we expected steamships or paddlewheelers, but that was not the case. Again, not the park's fault. There appeared to be 3 ships hunkered down, just at the edge of the park, and their engines hummed all night. Again, not the park's fault. If they had time to trim the trees, cut the grass and fill in the holes & dips, this would be a really sweet little park. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

Looks like a nice park. Our spot was right ion the river and would have been perfect for watching the river and boats going about their business. Looks well cared for and the staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side. The river seemed to be rising and the rain ruined our stay. We will go back again We stay in a 44 foot 5th wheel. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Really enjoyed my visit. Weather was a little dreary, but the site right on the Mississippi was very enjoyable. Was angled so got a clear view of the boat traffic out of the right side windows. All units on this row get a clear view. Quick access to Memphis for any touring that you might want to do. Access is to the park is clearly marked from the interstates. Power, water and sewer were all in good shape. Check in was easy and the concrete pad was fairly level. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Memphis can be a dangerous city. Know where you are going and stay alert. Several fun things to do: Peabody Hotel, Rondevous Ribs and Beale street are mainstays. The BassPro Pyramid is great entertainment for a few hours.

This park is awesome. It is literally right on the river. It is pretty cool to think about the history and see the power of the Mississippi! We were in a gravel spot that was well maintained, even after being flooded recently. Site was level, water pressure was good and no electric issues (30a). The park was very clean, staff was courteous. No dumpsters around, but they circle around 3 times during the day and will pick up your trash. We only stopped by for the night, but had enough time to take a walk along a trail in the woods, and along the river where we saw several barges going up and down the river. Such a peaceful place, nice cool breeze this time of year made the evening beautiful. I imagine the bugs would be pretty bad in the middle of summer, we had a few little biting flies. Will definitely be back! We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here just after they reopened. Big flood devastated the park. They were working hard to get it back in shape but it is going to take a long time. That being said, we LOVED it here. Beautiful site, right on the river. It was very unique to sit right in front of our trailer and watch the tug boats and barges go by. Also saw a paddle wheel boat. Easy to find, just follow their directions (which were the same as Google Maps). Road construction near the interstate made it a bit difficult. Tips for other Campers:

The Mississippi River outdoor exhibit on Mud Island is a MUST SEE. Very interesting. The Memphis BBQ Company and Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken are wonderful. Took a Memphis Riverboat Tour, didn't care for it. Doesn't go very far, and the captain's narration, although interesting at times, was difficult to understand.

We have stayed were 2x, admittedly in December. The first time it was way to cold to do much of anything other than hunker down in the camper. We had no desire to go into Memphis. It was fun to watch the traffic on the river. Most recently we arrived after a heavy rain. All the roads are gravel and out camper and truck were covered with grime. I used the restrooms/showers 2x. Clean but very rough and primitive. Pedestal very low so that I couldn't use my surge protector. No cable but we got a few channels out of Memphis. Convenient to the Pyramid. We parked there and took the trolley around town. Just a really basic place. I don't think we will be back. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tom Sawyer’s is on the Arkansas side of the Mississippi River, across from Memphis. It’s on the river side of the levee, and apparently floods with regularity. The current Google satellite view of the park shows it completely flooded, and our next door neighbor had had a reservation canceled earlier in the year. It’s about a 15-20 minute drive to the tourist attractions in Memphis. Your GPS will send you the wrong way at one point. If you’re looking up instead of at your GPS when the GPS tells you to make an obviously wrong right turn, you’ll notice a large sign for the park on the left. The park is kind of funky, probably as a result of the regular flooding. Water pipes stick out of the ground at funny angles, and the buildings are all on stilts. Some sites have concrete pads, and some are gravel. Site spacing is fairly close, but nearly every site has a good view of the river. All are mostly level, but may have some issues when it rains. Our site completely flooded, and we had to pull our fresh water hose and power cord out of a lake that formed in the pit our sewer connection was in. We ended up playing safe and sanitizing our fresh water system at the next campground. The campground WiFi barely works, but cell service is fine. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

Graceland is a 25 minute drive, and has plenty of RV parking. The National Museum of Civil Rights is in downtown Memphis, about 15 minutes away. We were able to park our coach on the street right next to the museum.
