Rustic to say the least. Tight sites that need TLC. Walking distance to town. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Board walk was easy walk. Bear watching in Hyder was worthwhile. The 37 km to Salmon Glacier was potholes and dirt. Slow drive if u have a car. If the clouds lift it is spectacular to see.

OK. This is a Municipal campground wedged in among the huge spruce and other not-identifiable-by-a-southerner trees and pushed up against an almost sheer bluff of a hill. Plenty of annual plants/shrubs between sites, thick carpet of pine needles help maintain quiet-etude, and sites are ample for big rigs, tents, and pretty much anything that shows up (even had one of those Uni-MOG rigs from Germany). We didn't use the showers/restrooms, although a peek inside revealed clean/tidy/up-to-date. We had 30A power, but no water/sewer. Water is available near the showers, and dump is less than a quarter mile away (city - free). Fellow in the office was most polite and accommodating, and had suggestions for first-time visitors to Stewart/Hyder. Any subsequent visits to this area will find us at this campground, vs. the commercial one in Stewart, or in Hyder - both of them cater to "caravans," and aren't the friendliest folks. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fish Creek for bear viewing - in-season. Salmon-River Glacier - ~20 miles through Hyder.

Toaster Works for breakfast. Look at all sorts of turn-of-the-20th-century electrical appliances while waiting on a most excellent meal.

"The Bus" - Hyder - open 12:00-20:00 daily - highly recommend halibut - broiled/saute'd/fried.

Just into Hyder - first "open" business on the right side - "Boundary Gallery" - FUDGE/souvenirs/good conversation!

Overall Rating:

The park was not very crowded and pleasant overall. The young men working there were very friendly and kept up the older restrooms that could use some updating. WiFi was in a cutely decorated picnic pavilion. There grounds were a lush heavily forested (rainforest) with a moderate amount of insects; we set up our bug tent. One other downside was that the campground shares a boundary with houses. We sat in our bug tent and watched the dogs in backyards for entertainment. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Stewart is really off the beaten path in early June! I felt like I was in the show Northern Exposure. Visit the awesome marsh boardwalk in the town to see wildlife. There weren't any Bears at the NFS Bear Board Walk (note to self-no fish in June!), but it was neat to go to the Tongass NF. The golf course closed (rats, we were on a mission to play mud hole golf courses all the way to AK!).

Overall Rating:

This is a pretty funky city campground in a densely wooded area with easy walking access to “downtown” Stewart. The sites seemed to have been laid out by someone with a few too many drinks, but it works. Access can be tight in some sites, even for our smaller motorhome. The young man that checked us in was very efficient and had all of the relevant information. He gave us a site that worked well for us. There is only one water fill station in the campground, but we did not have to wait to fill. The dump station is a few blocks away, but not a big deal. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. Our site had a 15/20 amp plug that allowed us to keep our batteries charged, but we had to run the generator for anything significant, such as the microwave. They supposedly have WiFi in the campground, but when we were here it was out “because of the weather” (which had been wonderful and sunny). You can get WiFi if you set on the porch of the grocery store a few blocks away. There is no cell phone signal and the campground is far too wooded for satellite reception. To find the campground, just follow the signs as you enter town. It is a very convenient drive to Hyder from the campground and is about 10 minutes to the bear-viewing area. We would likely stay at this campground again if visiting the area. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful campground with too many potholes in access roads. Sani dump is 8-9 blocks away. One potable water tap for all sites. And frankly the host while friendly was tired of being host and ready to close campground. Wi-Fi was located in dry kitchen shelter in middle of park and was spotty in connectivity. Stewart is very interesting old mining town with a great pizza restaurant. This city owned campground needs TLC and better facilities. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a good option if you are here to see the bears at Fish Creek. It was our fourth stay here, but we noticed some deterioration from past years. The washrooms used to be pristine, but this time they were not that clean. The sites were very wet and muddy this time, but we managed to find site #58, and it was fine. We had 30 amp service that was very reliable, but of course no water or dump. Water is available at the entrance and a municipal RV sewage dump is available (free) at the top of 5th street. We would stay here again as it is preferable and more private than facilities in Hyder. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice wooded campground that is a welcome relief from the gravel parking lot parks that are typical to the area. Downtown is within easy walking distance. The city of Hyder and the Fish Creek Bear Viewing area is a short drive. There are no sewer hookups but fresh water is available. We will definitely stay here again. Overall Rating:

They have a water fill and a dump station in town about a mile from the campground. The sites are heavily shaded. With a big rig you need to choose your site carefully. Many trees and some site are not at all level. We had a 30 amp site, but some of the sites have only 20 amps. They do accept credit cards. Young boy is office was not very helpful. There are fire rings and picnic tables. There are tennis courts and a playground all part of the municipal park. We would not stay here again. We camped at Rainey Creek Municipal Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
