We were dismayed to find half of the campground closed when we arrived - and it must have been the half where larger trailers could go. We have a 28' trailer, and literally got stuck in a pull-through between two giant rocks. Took us 45 minutes to get out. Then as we tried to go up another loop in search of a site, we were forced to choose between two equally tight turns, and ended up scratching the sides of our trailer and tearing our awning on some trees. There was no camp host anywhere to advise us. This campground is made at a 70% scale. Everything was too small - roads, turns, sites. Class B's and pop ups would be fine. - Cyndi H

This is a very tight campsite. Mine is 35' and I was having a very hard time nagivating to one of their bigest site in the campground. If you have a 40', forget it. Lake Isabella is awful plain and dirty. Unless you want to come to Kern county for water rafting. Otherwise, I don't see why you need to visit this area. Nothing here. It was 105 degree there in July. They charge $7 extra for dumping. - LA88

Great state campground. We stayed right on the river. Almost everyone in the park was fishing. The site was level and right next to a sandy beach on the river. If you want a resort not the place to stay. I you like piece and quiet and nice scenery then it is the place to stay. We are going to make it our Thanksgiving campgrounds. - The traveler

Camped right on the Kern river with full hookups and 50amps. Beautiful location and convenient. Definitely recommend. Summer rates in effect middle of May but still very fair. - J.M. Wade

We visited here in the summer 2014 with our kids and dogs and had a great time. They allow tent camping on the sites and charge for a lot of extras so you should review their website for more information. Sites are generally small and close to each other on gravel and dirt. Staff was helpful when we were booking the site and while there. There can be a party atmosphere but fortunately many families were camping this weekend. The private area of the river isn't very long but it is a smaller campground. We visited this area for the river and had a great time all along areas of the river with our inflatables. - dragoncandy

No sewer hookups, but they have a good dump station with reasonable access. All dirt, everywhere, very dusty. They provide private access to the river for their customers. Mature trees. They charge for use of their showers! This should be included in their fees because they don't have sewer connections. The shower I used had a broken shower head and no place to hang any belongings. Their daily rates are not less than their competitors who do have sewer hookups. Go elsewhere. - streamlife

My family, which are grown adults with grandchildren and friends have been camping for the last six years and we have had a great time, no problems and we look forward to going every year. It is great family camping with horse and buggy rides, movies, pop corn, music, BBQ, riding down the river and plain sitting in the river enjoying ourselves as we visit and wave to people as they go by. - RayMary

A nice place along the river and close to town. The showers where old and in need of upgrade, the trash cans where all over-flowing and not monitored. Understaffed!! Looks to be a party campground along the river, good if your into that. Super dog friendly. Would I stay there again? No. Expensive for what you get. - Les Walker
