Overall Rating:

The negative reviews for this RV park was made prior to the new owners taking over on 06/2018. If your doing a over night/weekend stay this place is very nice. Huge pull-though cites, all cement slabs for the over nighter's. Very clean and very quite, no riff-raft what so ever. You can hear a little train noise, but not bad when inside your camper. After a night you won't even hear it again. If you are a worker as in a traveling nurse, pipe line worker, power linesman or any other type of worker looking for a place on a monthly, this is the place. Monthly spaces are mostly gravel, plenty big, new power post, easy clean sewer hook ups. Really quite night and day. There is a horse shoe pit, big dog park, very clean pool and jacuzzi. Laundry services, very clean and neat restrooms. The cable tv is good, plenty of channels. The wi-fi is the best that we have found at any RV park anywhere, and we have been full timing for two years. If you have to be in Bakersfield, this is the place to stay, if you are passing by, a great place to lay over for a few nights. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to check out Buck Owens Crystal Palace, pretty cool place, great food, tons of music history. The Kern River is ok, just stay out of the river. Check out the drillers for oil, other than these few places........It's Bakersfield folks

This RV park is a bit of a sleeper, or a best kept secret. We arrived hot and off season. Found the park at Passport America. Very quiet, close to a freight train track but an eight foot tall stuccoed wall deflects most of the train, and we slept through the night. The owner operator couple are delightful to visit with, and they took a run down RV park and evicted as required to get the RV park back on it's feet. They are well over the hump, and would appreciate more traffic. It is only about 3 miles East of 99. We look forward to a return visit! We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Would love to give a 10, but the train noise which they can't control makes it a very nice 8 park on this scale. Trains weren't too bad until the horn blowing started around 5 AM! Excellent staff, the pull throughs are nice, we are 61 ft, If your rig was 45 ft or less no problem. We didn't have any trouble at 61 ft and they were very accommodating to make sure we fit and could get out, but if the park was full would not be easy the way it's laid out. Very nice pool area and spa, reasonably priced laundry, clean bathrooms (although old) looks like things are being renovated. They are passport America which is one reason we chose this park on our way through town. The condition of the park and friendly staff will definitely put this on our list of parks to return to when in the area! Never tried the park wifi or cable tv as we are self contained with our own Internet source and satellite TV. 4G LTE both Verizon and AT&T good here, and no problem with satellite reception in our site #319. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Fifth Wheel.

Friendly owners at check in and escort to site. Paved interior roads and level concrete pad with patio and table. Good Verizon cell/data and park WiFi. No obstructions to TV satellites and plenty of OTA channels. Very secure with key-card gate and tall walls with razor wire. We really liked this park and it's owners, but the constant rumble of nearby trains is a deterrent to a return. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

Not in the best section of town, but convenient to the CA 58. It is a bit like a fortress where everything is only accessible with a magnetic card. Walls are high, but not high enough to block train noise which is only separated from the park by a road. And the trains are NON STOP all night. Excellent staff and clean as can be. Very impressive. If it weren't for the trains... We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

Clean sites all paved and pads. Manager extremely helpful. Location in seedy area, but seems to have protection from vandals. Good for one night, but wouldn't stay longer. Train tracks across street so can be disturbing at night. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

Located about five miles east of the I-5. This park has few RV spots and a lot of semi-permanent residents. The facilities are good and the $20 Passport America price excellent if you don't mind the cluttered sites around you and the constant barking of dogs. I can stand it for one night but wish the management was more effective at enforcing their own rules. I will probably find another place to stay next time. Stayed overnight thankfully. Nice place, but didn't get much sleep because of noise. In the city on a busy highway and near very busy railroad tracks. Trains ran about every 30 minutes with several trains back to back. Not a place to rest on a long trip. I would not stay here again. Tips for other Campers:

This park is in the city of Bakersfield and shopping and restaurants are nearby. Just off SR-58 on the way to I-40 and I-15 in Barstow. Not much after leaving Bakersfield, but food and gas. The drive through Tehachapi pass is nice.

Place had people living there that had tons of garage sale items strewn all around their campers. Train running all night long rumbling our class A RV. Assigned space was taken had to call to find another space. Electric box was locked. Had to call and wait 15-20 min for guy to come and unlock. Don't recommend. Won't stay here again. Not worth the $$!! We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

If you like trains - lots & LOTS of trains! - this is the park for you! 2 an hour, all day & all night. And let's not forget those awesome train whistles! All.night.long. We were even treated to a vibration running through the motorhome when I assume a particularly heavy load went through. We couldn't sleep - played cribbage most of the night!

However, I try to offset the negative with a few positive observations. This is a clean park, with decent sites. It's gated, so there is a sense of security. Furthermore, the gentleman who checked us in was very friendly & helpful. We would NOT stay here again. Far too noisy! We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

Please be advised, this park is in a bad area of town, although behind walls and locked gates, things can be stolen. Manager worked with us, but to no avail for replacing stolen bikes.

Sites were nicely paved and level. No grass. Wifi was fairly decent for tengonet.

Definitely will not return. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

This place is a rip off! It is dangerous! Do NOT stay there. We stayed here thinking the reviews were off because it has a security gate with card and cameras. There is NO security because everyone has cards to the security gates. People inside give cards to thieves who enter park and steal your stuff. We had two bicycles stolen which were on a bike rack with a heavy steal cable. They just used large bolt cutters to cut the cable away.

I reported this to police and to the office. The manager said he would work with the police. Police took a report over the phone and never found the bikes. The manager said the head office would pay for the bikes. Lies. The office will not pay for the bikes. I told the head office to speak with the on site manager.

Do not stay at this park. They will steal your stuff. Look elsewhere. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

Palm trees abound in this nicely kept and clean park. Grass and other foliage, not so much. But, then, we're in the desert. All of the roads are asphalt and the sites concrete with block patios.

The staff is friendly and helpful. Electricity is excellent and in addition to a pool, they have a hot tub.

WiFi is free provided by tengoInternet. Sadly, like most (99.9%) of tengoInternet installations, it doesn't work - not even a little. I offered to install a system for them that doesn't work for half the price. In other words, I don't have the words to describe politely how bad tengoInternet is.

The park is walled and gated with cameras everywhere. The walls block all of the traffic noise except the noise from the overpass adjacent which is above the wall.

There is cable television which we were not able to get working. It's not a problem as there are numerous 'air' stations.

Overall, it is a nice park that accepts Passport America and my wife and I would not hesitate to stay at again as long as we could do without the Internet. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.

Judging from all of the security, locks, cameras, and chains, I assume this to be in a bad neighborhood. So, it might not be a good idea to wander outside the walls of the RV park.

We stayed here for one night as we passed through Bakersfield. We were in a great pull-through site with excellent utilities. This park is not in a safe area of town, but is in a gated and walled park. I would not venture out of the facility after dark. My wife says that we will not stay here again because of the close proximity to the ever busy train tracks. This didn't bother me as much, but as they say . . . if Mommas not happy, nobody's happy. The park was clean, although we didn't use the showers or restrooms. I probably won't choose to stay here again as the negatives outweigh the positives. Great place for an overnight stop. Transient spaces are up front, separated from the long term residents. Easy access from I-40 and interior roads are wide and well maintained. Utility pedestal was cleanest and nicest I've ever seen.

The railroad tracks can be pretty noisy when the trains roar by blowing their horns. There's a $50 gate card deposit in case you drive away with their card. We didn't have any problems getting our deposit back. We camped at Shady Haven RV Park& Mini Storage in a Motorhome.
