We have enjoyed staying at this park for many years. In the last several years the management has changed hands. They began charging $10/day for a towed vehicle and the campground rules have become rather lax. Generator times go from 10 am to 6 pm and this rule was not enforced. (We would LOVE to be able to use the generator starting at 8 am for coffee!) Our neighbor camper started his at 7 am and ran it until at least 7 pm. We asked the host to address this but nothing was done. There is no cellular service anywhere. Not sure if a satellite dish might pick up a signal but no analog signals can be found. In an emergency we presume that someone can drive to the local fire station a few miles north. The camp hosts don't hang around at night. We camped at Plaskett Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Trying to see more of the central coast of California and hit Highway 1 and the Big Sur coastline. It was easy to book the camp site on ReserveAmerica.com but after arriving at the camp site, realized that I could have just shown up and picked any of the camp sites that were open. It seems week days are quiet here. The drive down highway 1 is incredible with the most stunning views over the Pacific. Lots of places to pull over and take in the views. Plaskett creek is the last camping site open before the huge landslide after Gorda which cuts off the Pacific Coast highway going southbound. The lawns and sites are all looking pristine and green. I chose site number 38 which was perfect. It was set apart from the rest of the camp site and had ample room for my two yellow labradors to romp around . Trash cans were close by and emptied daily. There was a faucet for drinking water right at this site and plenty more all around the entire facility. These faucets are not threaded so one is not able to fill your fresh water tanks at the site, so arrive with water. There is also no electricity , water or sewer hook ups at this camp site, so bring your generator and be prepared to dump on your way home. Each site has a fire pit, fire grill stand and a picnic table and benches. Very clean restrooms. Friendly camp hosts who were visible the entire time I camped there. Camp site a quick 5 minute walk to Sand Dollar beach where you can catch fish from the rocks and walk the dog (on a leash) and picnic on the sand or rocks. If you cannot get into the campground a few minutes north of this camp site then definitely try for this awesome spot. Much nicer, in my opinion. We camped at Plaskett Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Sand Dollar Beach and Jade Cove are a short 5-minute walk away. Firewood was available for sale on site. This place was available when Kirk Creek and Limekiln were full, which I don't understand because it's a beautiful campground. Lots of other easy-access hikes to the beach nearby. A 13-minute drive north to Limekiln Campground offers some beautiful hikes, one to a big waterfall, through dense forest. Lots of other easy-access hikes to the beach nearby.

Overall Rating:

We stay here at least twice a year. One of our favorite places on Earth. The camping is in a large meadow under cypress trees. Not much privacy but its a mellow place to be. Group camping is separate from the main campground and sloped but accommodates a lot of campers. Sand Dollar Beach across the street (10 minute walk) is beautiful. Nice hiking on the bluffs and up Plaskett Creek Rd.

Cons: sinks are not on in bathrooms to conserve water. Firewood is $8 a bundle.

Pros: No cell service (pay phone at day use at beach). Stars galore at night. Sounds of surf and ocean view from many sites. We camped at Plaskett Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive down the coast about 15 miles to Salmon Creek Falls trail for a short walk to a beautiful waterfall and caves for exploring. Lots of poison oak, though.

Overall Rating:

We camped here for 2 nights. This campground is near to beach, though not directly located on the beach. Its across the road about half a mile walk to tides. Campground is clean and spacious, with common area available for camping in case camp ground is not available. The shared spot have couple of campfire pits and grills to be shared. Host is excellent and ready to help. Make sure that you keep food inside car so that raccoons dont create a mess. The flush toilets are clean but there are no showers. Overall very nice experience. We camped at Plaskett Creek Campground in a Tent.

Overall Rating:

Located in the Los Padres National Forest, this pretty, old-growth tree/meadow CG is right off Rt 1 (east side) about 20 miles south of the town of Big Sur. Water is available and it has flush toilets, but no hookups. Very scenic area. Somewhat level in places, but not flat. A few sites would accommodate a 40', with toad unhooked. Nice host on site. Reasonable price for overnight in area. Managed for NFS by third-party parks management Co. A nice break along the coastal drive. We camped at Plaskett Creek Campground in a Motorhome.
