The is a California State Park. The hosts were excellent. RV up to 35 feet total (trailer and pull Veh.). Make online reservations with total length of your rig. (Trailer plus Tow). Some sites are a steep and getting level front to back would be a problem. Go during the week in the Summer as this is very popular local place.(Families) As mentioned your are in the redwoods and lots of pretty level trails to walk around. We stayed in Wildcat and were close the new restrooms (showers) of the Azalea loop. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This little gem of a park is located in Anderson Valley wine country and sits among 1,000 year old giant Pacific redwood trees. There are two groves of protected trees you can walk through on well-marked, easy trails. There are 92 campsites within the two campgrounds in the park. Most sites will fit rigs up to 35 feet. Some of the turns inside the loop roads can be a bit tight, so use care. But we made it though easily in our 30 foot 5th wheel. Beautiful forest area, lots of trees and shade. Plenty of room between the sites. No hookups or wifi, but you can get cell service for AT&T & Verizon. Clean restrooms and pay showers. If you enjoy a glass of wine, there are several nice vineyards and tasting rooms just minutes away on highway 128. You'll have a good time. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Phillips Winery - Natasha is very pleasant with great information. Good wine too. Greenwood Winery - Rainbow will fill you in on all the local history and current happenings. Philo Market, 3 miles away - pretty much anything you need with a meat case, fresh crab, sundries and hardwood firewood. The Navarro River adjacent, for some cooling off and scenery. Big Hendy and Little Hendy Redwood groves. Great walking trails.

Great state park with many trails. Area is surrounded by sequoia trees and great picture taking of the and a bit rustic. Off the highway so watch carefully for the signs. Sites are spacious but a little tight for a rig over 30 feet. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park surrounded by Redwoods. If your coming from North to South on the 101 freeway be aware of highway 253 if you are towing a rig. It has 10% grades and is a winding road (15 mph at some curves). Go a little further and catch the 128 in Cloverdale. It is a winding road also, without the grades.

The camp sites themselves are very nice and large. I am an RVer and can tell you that we see Motorhomes, 5th wheels and trailers come into this park. I see rigs in this park up to 34' with no hookups.

There IS a dump station on site. There are restrooms with showers and flush toilets. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Navarro river is within close distance and is nice to float around or swim in. There are good hiking trails through the Redwoods that is very pretty.

Lots of Wineries in the area that are nice and fun to go tasting. Get supplies in Ukiah (north) or Cloverdale if your South.

$45 no hookups located in Philo, CA. This park has no hookups, dump or water station. It is set in the forest with big redwood trees surrounding the sites. There are two large loops: Wildcat and Azalea in the campground with 92 sites. Some small and a number of huge sites. We had a site where we backed in between a few trees. Tight fit! Clean bathhouses with pay showers. Ranger talks and walks and a number of hiking trails. Glad we stopped for the weekend but the park is off route 128 and there are many rolling hills and also sharp S curves to reach the town. Beautiful drive though. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Motorhome.

Spaces are very tight. There were no open places to throw frisbees or play catch. I have no idea why it was necessary to have workers with leaf blowers churning up dust and tree needles in a forest!!! They were loud and choked up the air. It made no sense. It was difficult to manuever our 31' rig. Because we had a handicap spot, we had electricity. The rest of the sites have nothing. There were plenty of trash bins which was nice. But we won't return--it was cheek to jowl. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Directions and signs were inadequate. It was hard to find your space and easy to get lost if you're a first-timer. Make reservations far in advance. The Visitors' Center is closed.

Overall Rating:

This campground is one of the best we've visited. We go back every year at least once a season, usually more. Great campsites that are shaded, private, and spacious. Interesting hiking with Redwood forest and Hermit Huts. River nearby for swimming. Head out for a day of wine tasting. Claudia Springs is one of the best wineries in the area, right next to the Rock Stop (kids love it). The bathrooms are nice and clean, and the staff is terrific. Junior Ranger programs offered in the summer. Recently closed by the State and reopened by private owners. Will be interesting to see if it changes. Highly recommend. We camped at Hendy Woods State Park in a Travel Trailer.
