Great place friendly helpful staff, guided me into spot. WiFi is typical of most campgrounds in and out. Didn't use the pool but looked good. Henrey Cowell Park is within walking distance in the back but I preferred driving a few blocks to the main entrance We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We love staying here. It's so close to be able to do and see so much in the Santa Cruz area and along HWY 1. It's very family friendly as well as pet friendly. The camp hosts are very helpful and friendly as well. The sites we stay in are large with tables and fire pits. You can't go wrong staying here. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

A wonderful RV camp grounds among the Santa Cruz Redwoods. Our campsite was very nice and large. The camp sites are kept very clean and the park hosts drive through often to check on everyone. The showers are very clean and free. They have a heated pool, baseball diamond, basketball area, ping pong and pool. Our grandkids rode their bikes everyday we were at camp until it got dark. This park is perfect for kids and the trails to explore are very close to the park. We will totally return to camp here again! Thank You! We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The location, amongst the Redwood, is idyllic and the Host Campers are very helpful if not friendly. Built in 1919 the person at the desk explained that it is the oldest RV park in the world. Another host-camper explained that management's policy is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And, it's been fine since 1919." My suspicion is that the Wi-Fi was installed in 1919 too. So close to Silcon Valley and yet so far.

The sites are located among redwood trees and the scene is idyllic if a little dark. There is a pool and shower room though I didn't see anyone partaking during our ten day stay.

Down among the trees there is no satellite reception and no over the air TV reception. The park does provide cable however. The cable service is excellent.

Though we were quoted one price upon making our reservation, we were charged another, higher price upon arriving. This was explained as being a result of the extreme size of our RV, 39' 10", and the fact that we wanted 50-amp electrical service. The assigned site was actually supplied with 30-amp service at 106 volts.

Electricity seems poor throughout the park - low voltage. Our RV protects itself from nonstandard electricity and would not accept the electricity. So, we complained and the hosts were kind enough to move us to site 100. There was 50-amp service there and the voltage was higher though there was a wide spread between each leg. So, our electric heat would not work other than a 2 in the morning.

This just seems dumb-stupid as low voltage causes the electrical meter to run faster resulting in a higher electric bill for the park owner and ruined appliances for us.

We'd come for the Daughter's birthday and she wanted a campfire each evening. At $10 for a small bundle of firewood, this brought the daily fee to $92. A host camper did deliver the firewood though. The firewood at the local Safeway is half the price.

Smithwoods charges $5 for each additional person, beyond 2, that enters the park. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful shady spaces in the Redwoods. Close to Roaring Camp Railroad and Santa Cruz. Almost reluctant to share this with anyone as I don't want it to be spoiled. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here 3 times with our club. Back in gravel site. Needed a 1 inch board to level side to side. Fire pit and picnic table provided. Good combination of sun and shade in Redwoods. Close to Santa Cruz and many attractions. Staff very accommodating. Led to site by staff member. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a great stay at Smithwood. When booking the reservation I was truly concerned since several reviews stated problems checking in even with a reservation The ladies that answer the phone, and those checking you in, are view scattered. However once they saw the size of our RV they decided to show us two options. They continued to say they just want to make sure we are happy with the spot. The park was clean, lots of families and RV groups. Beautiful trails to hike and the railroad is a short distance away. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The park does have a lot of full timers but everyone was very nice. The only issue is the price they are rather pricey for what you get. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Smithwoods dates back to 1920 and is "rustic." We reserved one night in advance (4th of July weekend) and were given a choice of being in the redwoods or near the restrooms. We chose - redwoods. As it turned out, we were both nestled in the redwoods and a short walk to the restroom/showers. The folks in the office were extremely accommodating. A staff member guided us to our space and expertly helped maneuver us into what turned out to be (after negotiating the tight entry) a very large private site very much in the redwoods! Wi-Fi? I'm sure it is provided, but we were in the forest and had no reception and really didn't expect any. Even though the park was packed (4th of July weekend) it was quiet the feeling was "back to nature serene." Even though we stayed only one night, it was a great experience. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

A vacation in the redwoods without having to go too far! The kids love all the tree climbing, walking trails and the Easter activities. A yearly Easter tradition now for our family. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This would be a great family-friendly park, with one very big exception. Getting to your campsite will require driving across at least four speed bumps that are not gradual and that are angled so that you can't go across with both wheels at once. That means very severe side-to-side rocking when you go in and when you go out. They're a nuisance for your car, but for your RV, they're a serious threat to items stored in the unit. They're in a beautiful redwood grove with views of the San Lorenzo River (no access, but you can look). Nice heated pool. Nice Laundromat. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is quite shabby. Lots of permanently parked RV's in weedy sites. The restrooms were not cleaned once during our five night stay. Most of the sites are very tight. A plus: The staff was friendly and helpful. We'll stay elsewhere next time we visit the area. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We love this park! The redwoods are plentiful and gorgeous. Its location close to many activities of the south coast make this a "plus". There are many permanent sites however they don't infringe on short-term campers. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Only negative I can even think of is that a Wi-Fi repeater is necessary on the sites far from the office Wi-Fi location (i.e., site 133). We will continue to use this campground on a regular basis. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great campground in the heart of the Redwoods. Nice big sites, needed a little leveling. Quiet area and beautiful park but a few miles drive to groceries, etc. Park hosts very friendly. Water, elec, cable good. Wi-Fi has hotspots so depending where your site is, works ok but intermittent. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at this park last Labor Day weekend. We returned because we were meeting two other couples. We did not like our site last year since it was extremely unlevel. We filled out a provided form when we left last year, and were told we would get one of two other sites. We were given the same site as last year. We were escorted to our site by a staff member in a golf cart. After showing us out site, he said, “boy it’s going to be tough to level.” Then he drove off. It took me five boards to level the trailer. I went to use the lower bathroom and the urinal was out of order and the floor was flooded The Wi-Fi was poor and intermittent. For $53.00 a night a level site, working Wi-Fi and a clean working bathroom should not be to be too much too ask. On the plus side, the coffee bar, wiffle ball tournament, and free BBQ were great. The best thing about the park is that it is close to numerous attractions. If the park wants to charge premium money, they should put the effort into making all the sites level and continue to improve their facilities. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in this park for eight days during Christmas week. The weather caused the cable and Wi-Fi to be iffy. Had we not called or gone to the office to report the problem nothing would have been done. Even though we were the only short time RVers there, the management did not seem interested in our comfort or care to follow-up on the cable and Wi-Fi problems. We did not use the showers because they were old and looked less than appealing. This park is one of the very first RV parks on the West Coast, is family owned and in the redwoods. However, it needs some repair and upkeep. We won't use it again. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
