Typical Forest Service CG. No hookups. VERY tight back-in sites. Not level. Web-site said "full shade", but not so. Long, steep, rough road into CG. Water handy, bathrooms not-so-much; but they were clean, if old & a little tired. Staff scarce, but it was after Labor Day. Still very hot, & dry/dusty. CG full even so. Lots of families, especially over the weekend. 10 mi to Grant Grove; 25+ to Sequoia NP. 35 to Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon. Probably wouldn't return unless with same travelling companions who love the place. We camped at Hume Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Decent store/gas at "Christian Camp" 3 miles. No other gas avail for long way. Easier to get to & from the CG from Grant Grove entrance to Kings Canyon NP via the "Tenmile" road than by following Ca 180. Same distance, but not as steep, winding, or as much traffic.

Hume Lake campground is a nice place for a weekend get away or a place to visit Sequoia and Kings Canyon. This campground has no hook-ups was primarily used by Californians, with some larger groups. The campground has no dumpsite or water fill-up. The campground's location close to the lake provided great hiking and cold swimming. The fishing was a bit more challenging since the state of California is stocking smaller fish. The sites are well spaced out, but the gravel pads and the wooden post make some spots small and a challenge for backing in. Additionally, some pads are not that level, but most are well shaded. The restrooms can be a bit of a hike if you are parked at the far end of the loop. The sites also have bear boxes but no major bear activity had been reported. The elevation helped keep the temperatures nice and cool. The Christian Camp at the end of the lake has a well stocked general store that is open to all. They also have gas (at an up charge) in case of emergency. The campground only provided firewood at a cost. We camped at Hume Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Awesome. Shady sites, easy walk to lake. We were able to swim in the lake in June; it wasn't too cold. This campsite is not part of the National Park system. It's in the National Forest, but you have to go through the park. This makes for easy access to the park, but there is plenty to do around the site as well. Especially for bikes because you're allowed to ride bikes on trails in a national forest. We will definitely come back. We camped at Hume Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Hume Lake is a great family campground owned by the U.S. Forest Service and run by the California Department of Land Management. The campground is well laid out with spacious camp sites. The restrooms have flush toilets; however, there is only one restroom per loop in the campground, so you may have a bit of a walk to get to the restroom. The entire campground is on a slope, so if the reservation website says that the camp site is unsuitable for tents, it is. Ours was even difficult to level our trailer on. That said, the pluses far outnumber the minuses. Hume lake is great for fishing (it is stocked annually), swimming, and non-power boating. We had deer (I counted 7 together at one time) continually walking by and through our site, and at 5200 feet above sea level, the temperatures are very pleasant in the lower 80’s. It’s a great place to camp, and we’ll definitely return! We camped at Hume Lake Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Very nice dry campground in the Sequoia National Forest. Some sites have a great view of the lake and there is a very good store in town. Vault toilets and water faucets throughout the park. At 6000 ft elevation it is cooler and the air is clean. The main driveways are paved and the sites are gravel and they list a maximum length of 30 ft. Beautiful area with nice hosts. We camped at Hume Lake Campground in a Tent Trailer.
