No enforcement of quiet hours; loud music after 10 pm, the campers next to us arrived at 11pm and then commenced watching a movie on their outdoor TV at midnight. Vehicles in and out of the park up until 11:30 pm, starting back up at 4:30 am. Water to showers is turned off at 9pm. Not enough showers or toilets for size of campground, so they were both over used. Spent four nights over a non- holiday weekend. My tip is find someplace else to stay. We will never return. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rivernook Campground, owner at Rivernook Campground responded to this review

Hello, we are sorry to hear you had less than a happy stay. We wish you would have presented your issues to the front office so we could have resolved the matters regarding the loud campers. We have a night host that does rounds 7 days a week and stays on site until 1:00 am, if you wouldn't mind emailing jami@rivernookcampground.com so we can add notes to the system and see what took place during your stay. If we don't know there are issues we cannot address and fix them. We do however hope that you continue to visit our little community as it is beautiful here in Kernville. We do shut down showers at 9pm and re open at 7am, but the restrooms are open 24/7.
Thank You,
Jami Ward - General Manager

Nestled among surrounding mountains with the surging Kern River running through it, this sprawling campground is one of the most beautiful we've seen. The valley is so low and the mountains so high that sunrises are late and sunsets are early-all beautiful. They hold wedding ceremonies here in an idyllic wilderness setting beneath a spray of decorative lights! We found management to be friendly, efficient and responsive. The park is gated and clean. The full-service pull-thru sights are wide, long and generous with ample overhead shade provided by old growth trees. Cable TV is clear and offers a prolific number of choices. Our computer, however, could not find a Wi-Fi signal anywhere-good that Verizon worked like a charm! Utilities are centrally located within the site; everything worked reliably. Site 451 was hard-packed dirt and near perfectly level. Other conveniences (showers, bathroom & laundry) are nearby as are dumpsters. Interior roads are also dirt (and somewhat dusty) but easily navigated, even for big rigs. River access is easy and the landscaping is inviting. Tent campers are separated from RVs and the permanent community (which every campground seems to have) is geographically separated from everyone else. Don't let the skimpy website turn you off . . . this is a premier RV campground in a stunning setting just outside the Sequoia National Forest. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Low price, large RV site, Very clean camp ground and the full park area is clean! Our $42.00 site is directly on the Kern River ! Can't beat this site for outdoor lovers and fly fishing! Park staff and management are very supportive and nice. We go to many RV sites in California and this has been our number one choice. .... Bathrooms & Showers always very clean! Enjoy the Kern River view from our campground site! Dirt sites are clean and level! Been going here since 1974. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.

Drive up to the Johnsondale Bridge, park and enjoy the surrounding areas. When driving up and down the Kern River take the time to drive off on some of the roads and see unique river views and fishing areas. (95% easy parking & etc.).... The town of Kernville has restaurants, museum, and many stores with collectable items.

Haven't stayed here in years but came up for family trip. Park was very nice and appears they have been working on it since we were there last. Park is huge, lots of trees. Grounds were well kept and river sites are very large and great spots with water and electric, no sewage. They weren't that busy but still strict if you come in before 2:00 pm. We would definately stay again. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.

Do not know the exact daily or night rate. Been going there for over 30 years! The upfront rivers sites are premium and better than any other local campground. With the river views and having very large roomy sites this is one of the top 5% in California! Plus all these years the owners & staff were nice to very bad. Now they are "supreme" in management, grounds keeping, and just very friendly and nice. Need six stars or more. My wife & I have owned 5 motorhomes and been to many locations. One of the "BEST" We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Come here to fish by beginning at the Johnsondale Bridge and waking down with tackle & camera. Wife picks be off the road at 4:00 p.m. then begin the next day were I came out of. 3 days to walk & fish the upper river. 80% of the fisherman here do not really know the hot spots...they guess. Then Kayaking is coming back with higher water levels!

We have been going to Rivernook since 2006 and have seen the ups and downs of this park. New management is now making much needed changes. Starting with the phone call to make reservations, calls are returned in short order. The office staff is competent, helpful and friendly. The grounds have been kept much cleaner than in the past, the restrooms and showers are cleaned daily and checked regularly throughout the day (however shower stalls have not yet been repaired/updated).
We had one incident that was resolved professionally and in short order. A tree limb fell on our trailer the night we arrived. The manager was called and responded within a few minutes. Since it was dark, she asked how early in the morning the crew could take care of the problem. We settled on 7AM and at 7AM three friendly, competent young men were at our site. We checked the roof in daylight and did not find any damage to the rubber roof. The crew propped up the limb and I was able to move the trailer ahead so they could bring the limb down. They cleaned up the debris and we were back to normal in about 30 minutes.
NOTE: 50 amp service is available in the hook up area. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Great riverside camping but...Young guys now running the park, heavy on ridiculous rules, bathrooms are run down and not regularly cleaned. Stayed for five days and urinals never cleaned. Sites are not cleaned after people leave. I found the management very evasive in answering questions. Only 10 sites occupied out of several hundred (there's a reason) . We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park, appears to be an older one, some full time residences. The park was quiet, and situated North of town approximately 2 miles to town center. The restrooms were in need of some general repair. They were clean, but fixtures were old. The sites were large and shaded. There are several sites adjacent to river or close by. River sites will require some advance planning. They charge you a daily $5 pet fee which I thought was excessive, since the pet station area wasn't kept stocked. Couple fish cleaning stations available. Cable TV requires their receiver box. No deposit required, make sure you return. It may require assistance from staff to hookup to RV, some different from others. I will definitely return. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.

Great park and a great location! Only seconds from town. We stayed at a full hook up spot. Would have given a 10 except that we were sewer challenged with a VERY small sewer hole. There was a larger one available. but it was so far above the level of the rig that you had to play with the hose. Because of the time of year, there were very few other campers here so we had the run of the place. Very clean and very nicely kept park. We WILL be coming back! The cable TV thing was a non-issue. If you don't give back their equipment, they will charge your card, so: give it back! Also of note: we have Verizon and although the voice coverage was shaky, the data coverage worked well enough. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Travel Trailer.

No motorcycles allowed at all. This we did not realize and as it is our chosen mode of transport, on-road/off road when we park our motorhome: so no riding for us! It seems other parks in the area are the same, so check ahead. An ok river site. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.

I camped here during the 4th of July weekend: my first time here with family and friends. It was one of the best campgrounds that we've been to. The office people were very friendly and extremely helpful. There was plenty to do. We will be back in the future. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Tent.

We loved the Rivernook and Kernville. Stayed here twice, once in the pull through site, and the other on the river with water, electric and no sewer. Both are great!! Staff was great: helped us cut a lock off the trailer that we lost the key. We will come back again. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I did a LOT of research before coming to this area, and I can honestly say that Rivernook is EXCELLENT. Very clean, large area, well maintained, beautiful setting. I can not imagine how it could be improved, and I usually find flaws with most things. The river-front sites have partial hook-ups, everything but sewer, but the dump station is quite close and easy to get to; it must have something to do with building codes as the other sites further from the river have full hook-ups, but you really want to stay next to the river It's not that loud, and it's fun. Rivernook is immediately next to another camp, which appears to have the identical but much smaller setting. Both RV parks are close to town, you can apparently get a cab ride for just $1 or it's an easy bike ride or even walk into town. A market is close by too; any other RV or camping site would put you miles further from town. The town is cute and has a few restaurants; plan on spending 1/2 day there. You can also walk to the fish hatchery from the RV park as well. Everyone had a great time and already want to re-book and make this an annual trip. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.

Great family park! Water everywhere. On Kern River, creeks running through all over the 66 acre park! Ducks, deer and raccoons everywhere. Most all sites are very roomy. Hard to find these days. Kids can ride bikes, great place to walk too. Go, you'll love it. Bathrooms need to be remodeled. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I've been to Rivernook campground 3 times now. We found it by driving to Kernville, and looking at Camp James which is right next door. Coming from Los Angeles, we cannot leave until after work on Fridays. Camp James said they could not allow late arrivals, but we could come on Saturday. Rivernook said if we make it up there by 10:00 PM, they could accommodate, so we did, and have been camping there ever since. Rivernook is a campground with pea gravel roads, very clean restrooms and some of beautiful scenery. We prefer camping on the river's edge. However one of my guests said they had a hard time sleeping because of the noise from the river - I fell asleep like a baby. The noise from the river did drown out a party that was taking place in the spot right next to us. Later that evening the management asked the people to turn off their music and quiet down. One other note, the sites on the river do not have sewer hook-ups. If you need sewer hook-ups there are plenty of spots throughout the campground that have sewer and are right by the trout creeks that flow through the campground. There are also spots with no water near them if you have concerns about your toddlers. If you need cable TV note there is a $200 deposit on a converter box. You will get that deposit back once the box has been returned. The management has told us how frustrated they are about having to do that, but the box is mandated by the local cable company. My suggestion is to get out of the RV, and watch all of the people rafting on the river - there are no commercials this way. We camped at Rivernook Campground in a Motorhome.
