One of the worst campground I've ever stayed in tight spots, tight roads, floods when it rains. JUST AWFUL. - MikeO
Nov 2018 - $55.00
This place is advertised as a "finest resort", but to my personal judgement, it does not look or feel like a resort. Otherwise, it is OK to stay there. Lots are quite small, pool and hot tub are clean, there is a basic gym and recreation room. I was cautious not to leave any belongings outside or unlocked, as there were no gates or any kind of security, and the number of signs, such as "... park on your own risk,... management is not responsible for theft...", etc. was suspiciously overwhelming. I did not use WiFi, but my Verizon hotspot was good. They have cable TV, but quality of it was not to my satisfaction. In short, I will be looking for another park next time. - skiwest
May 2018 - $40.00
The park was very clean and well organized. The staff were very friendly. The nearby traffic was quite loud, but it was a steady, white noise and didn't really bother us. The only problem was a severed TV cable at our site, but there were lots of air channels, and the manager was quite apologetic. We would return to this park if we visited San Diego again. - John A Guderian

The site was level and just long enough for our rig, 35. ft. There was enough room to park our Jeep. There was a small grassy area behind our back-in site. We drove around the park and we found a pickleball court lines painted on the basketball court! We were thrilled! We didn't have our portable net with us and we asked the Rec dept. if we could use their net! Sure! No charge, no limitations! There is a charge for visitors and if they stay less than 20 minutes, they get a refund. There are scads of loud kids on scooters, skateboards and bicycles. The big drawback of the park, at least the site we were in, was the LOUD music. We were in site # I-27 facing the cantina and the bandstand. There was live, deafening rock music that practically rattled the windows of our rv. We tried to block the racket with the shades and sliding doors but it didn't work. The band played full-blast till 10 PM. Later, about 10:30 PM, there was a loud announcement that the park was now in quiet mode. And again at 11 PM. Forget turning in early to read. If you want a quiet evening enjoying the sunset over the ocean and listening to your own music, forget it, at least in site number I-27. In the morning, the cantina blasts loud rock music, too. This is not a park for those seeking a quiet get-away weekend. We drove around the park and other sites away from the green and bandstand looked to be a bit quieter. If we stayed here again, we would choose a spot far away from the grandstand. - Linda dlm

Adequate value for the cost of the site. - scoots46
Mar 2018 - $95.00
We had an upgraded 'select' site. It barely fit our 32' class C motorhome. The sites are set up so that every other unit faces in the opposite direction, ie, one backs in, next door pulls in frontwards, etc. The sites are long, so two units share the same site, bumper to bumper. Our drivers side and the neighbors drivers side were next to each other, our slides were about 12" apart when open. On the passenger side, our awnings nearly touched when opened. The utilities are located somewhat haphazardly, so you may need electrical extension cords, extra hose, extra sewer hose as well as cable. I think you get the idea. In addition, the site was half dirt and half paved such that the front half of the MH was on dirt, the back on blacktop. Of course our door was in the dirt! So, if you like paying top dollar for a site barely large enough for your rig and staying in an extremely crowded campground, you will love it here. San Diego has changed a lot in the past 15 years, it has become very crowded and somewhat dirty, not unlike many other previously nice cities in this country. - Wyn

Dec 2019 - $77.00
This is a large well-managed secure RV park. It is primarily a large asphalt parking lot, but it is level, clean and well run. The roads in the park are wide and easy to drive through. It is quiet and is easy access to the highways so you can take in all the sites along the coast. It is about a mile from I-5 exit 22. Although there is a tree on almost every site, we were still able to reach DirecTV. Verizon access was poor. Some of the sites back up to the bay and have a very nice view. Would definitely stay there again. - don-marg
Aug 2019 - $80.00
I won't repeat others' comments, other than agreeing that the place is well managed, the staff are great, and security is well run. The dip/hump/dip in the road just before entering the park is a killer. The main roads in the park are wide, and the sites are decent in size - making pulling in and out relatively easy. The road at the west end of the park, where sites face the water, is considerably narrower. Also, the folks parked on that end road tend to spread out their stuff - making navigation unnecessarily difficult. We had to ask folks to move their stuff to get by. Most annoying was one, and sometimes more sites covered with Trump banners, flags, and other paraphernalia. They drove throughout the park every day in a golf cart flying a Trump banner, stopping to talk with whoever was too polite to tell them to move on. There may not be a rule prohibiting political demonstrations in the park, but there should be. - NKA
Dec 2018 - $46.00
Yes, it is a large asphalt parking lot, but it is level, clean and seems well run. Easy to drive through and get into and out of your site. If you have a dog, parking on the far south side gives you a grass/dirt back stop to your RV, so you don't have to walk outside the park. Has been quiet and lets you have easy access to the highways so you can take in all the sites along the coast. Rest rooms are old but kept as clean as possible and trash is picked up every morning. - weighit

We enjoyed our week here as it is a safe and decent campground for area visitors. It is not the kind of CG for lounging in your site, etc. The woman running the place is terrific and helpful. The main problem here is that there is no sewer hook-up, so come with empty tanks. If you stay for a week you will get honey bucket service at no additional fee. They come around 9 a.m. on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. It is probably the best deal for camping on the entire San Diego coast. - nmunozjr
Mar 2010 - $35.00
Very basic park with gravel drives and sites. Lots of big shade trees, clean and well kept. Quiet even though it was in between a busy street and the 5 Fwy. Owner/Host very friendly and accommodating. No sewer hookups but rest stop north on the 5 has two free dump stations. We stayed here for a dog show at Del Mar fairgrounds. Much better than the full hookup sites that we saw at the fairgrounds. We will stay here again. - MarvMarvs
May 2009 - $35.00
Simple park, we were told where to park which did not accommodate our trailer due to the trees being too low (a/c unit) and too narrow for space which we could not open awning. The great thing was its close proximity to the beach and highway access. Diesel fuel stations close by not RV friendly. There are no sewer hook ups, but there is a mobile service which visits twice a week. Our trailer was 27' in length and the spot given should be for parking a vehicle. We had to park a certain direction with the door on the left into a tree and the slide on the right inches from the other tree. There were other spots available not sure why we had to be placed there. Parking our vehicle was difficult when other rigs were there. Having to wait on dump service before travel was not worth it for the time we spent. No fire pits all gravel but level. There are no restroom facilities no playground for children. - reymer

This is what I call Sardine camping, when there is an event going on you will be so tight that you can hear your neighbor %*#+. We were here for a car show event, so it was tight to say the least and after the event everybody left and it became more relaxed . One thing I did notice was the people that work here have no respect for the dust that they create or how fast they drive by this motorhome area. The manager said the speed is 10 miles an hour, but I have seen some going at least 30 and the dust boiling. I've said it before; convenience has a price. Since we were going to be in the area, we stayed here another six days. Other than the workers driving by fast, it was nice after the crowds left . Other than an event being here and being part of the event, I would not camp here. Our utilities were accessible; some of the 30 amp plugs were falling apart, don't know what was going on there. Our sewer outlet was convenient, but I know that some other campers could not reach their sewer outlet with their hose. I was told that the RV park is not accessible from late May through September due to workers at the fairgrounds etc. We will probably have to stay here again some time due to the fact we will be part of the event going on. Other than that, I would not come back. - monaco cruiser

Jun 2019 - $40.00
Paved access, dirt/gravel sites and pretty close. But for the money, it was good for a short while we toured the area! Had to park our tow vehicle cross wise in front of our coach and hardly had enough room. - Jackie thornton
Nov 2017 - $35.00
Pricey for a military facility, but still a reasonable value for its location if you get the military rate. Superb customer service. An earlier reviewer complained about the "broken" English of the staff. They do speak with foreign accents, but their English is fluent, not "broken," and it's sad that someone would confuse those two things in this day and age. The sites are very close together and the pads quite short, which is the main detractor at this park. I barely got all my wheels onto the pad with a 28 foot rig. That being said, it was absolutely level. There is a huge parking lot nearby for tow cars if you can't fit yours on your site. The park and surrounding grounds are lovely - lots and lots of green space and picnic areas, which makes up a little for the very tight sites. There is a golf course adjacent to the RV park, but there is no way to get there walking - you must drive a car. It isn't that far at all, but they won't let you walk along the golf path (gates are all locked), and the road that goes around to the front of the golf course is marked with threatening signs saying not to walk or ride bikes on it. I was informed they will cite people for walking on that road. Rate includes cable tv with lots of channels and free wifi. The wifi is reasonable, not great, but you have to sign up with a credit card (no charge, just for identification), and you can only be signed in with one device at a time. Verizon service is good. Not a great location for bike riding - you have to go a mile or so on a road with a bike lane but scary fast traffic to get to anyplace nice to bike. - KAP99

Stayed 2 nights. Not your usual RV park. Military facility but the office staff were foreigners with broken English. Asked unusual questions like proof of insurance on RV & Car. No discounts for Vietnam vets. Only active or retired. Yet it is open to the public. Our reserved site was occupied as we arrived but was cleared up within a short wait. Utility box was full of spiders & cobwebs. Level concrete slab for our small trailer. Things were okay after settling in. Overall, a good home location base for urban San Diego. Very busy during the summer. I would come here again but be more prepared for the next encounter. - zzzya

Favorite state campground, great for beach activities, especially surfing. However. be advised that currently the camp store, snack bar and laundry room are no longer there. The notice on the door said the state is hoping to have a new vendor in place this Spring. Also, construction on the new lifeguard tower and out buildings are still in progress with a portion of the South end of the campground closed behind fences. - swn

We were in site 78, no view, hwy 101 was 20' from our back door. The commuter tracks were just on the other side of that and the trains run all night. Our side view was the green construction fence and the construction started very early. If your able to get a site overlooking the ocean it's a beautiful view. We left a day early and will not go back. - GennyandBode

One of my favorite places to camp. Living in CA it's hard to book a campsite, but when you do it is a little bit of heaven being on the ocean. - William Rossini

This park is along the freeway, so noise is an issue. It's very clean and it has a very nice pool (though a little small). The big problem here is the format of the campsites. They are arranged in a kind of plus sign pattern. It's an intriguing design which I think could work well for a crowded urban RV resort.
Unfortunately, the limits of each site aren't well marked. So, you can't really be sure of where your site ends and the adjacent one begins. I apparently parked my trailer over the line into an adjoining site. I found out, after I was set up, that I was over the line from one of the employees. My neighbor didn't complain, but I felt guilty. Would it be too difficult to paint lines on the blacktop? Is it too difficult for the check-in staff to make each customer aware of the limits? If you camp at the San Diego RV Resort, I suggest asking about limits and ask for a site as far from the freeway as possible.
A positive for this resort is its close proximity to the San Diego Trolley station. And, if driving, it's very centrally located in the metro area. All utilities are stable and the staff is very nice. The sites are generally short, so your tow vehicle must park next to your site or on the street. Overall, I would probably stay elsewhere if I could. But if this resort is your last "resort" (haha) then it's not too bad. - SeaTeacher
Jul 2017 - $89.00
Excellent staff, helpful, courteous, professional. Clean pool. Gravel or concrete parking pad, almost level. The parking spots are 'bare bones' and are very tightly fitted in giving not much privacy, surprisingly not too noisy either, considering the light rail track is on one side and a highway is on the other. BUT they are close to a trolley station to get you into town, or to the zoo specifically. - Eliz Plam
Jul 2017 - $80.00
We stayed here over the weeekend as other parks were full. The park is clean, pool area is really cool, TV room was nice and clean and recently updated. Bathrooms are dated but clean. Two issues that i had that you may or may not. 1. The neighbor is a long timer, with a lot of junk outside of their unit. Their dog barked all day long when they were out of their unit. I talked with the management, and they said they would handle it. Nothing happened... 2. We had an ANT INVASION at our spot. There were thousands of ants on the ground of our site. By the morning of day 2, we had hundreds of ants INside of the motorhome. The neighbor on the other side gave me ant spray to put in and out of the motorhome (an indication of the massive infestation they have here.) The management didn't seem to care about the issue. Bring ant spray with you and spray around all of your tires, jacks, hoses, etc when you pull in. We beat it out of here quickly. - Rolling Mortgage Broker

Love this park. Small, quiet and right on the marina! We spent the weekend in Imperial Beach and enjoyed the beach and bars!!! - TravelingChez
Mar 2018 - $45.00
Great price for this location! Convenient to most of the San Diego tourist attractions (up to 1/2 an hour to the waterfront boat tours, etc. because of traffic). Level concrete pads, friendly and helpful desk attendants, good cable (but spotty T-Mobile and park Wi-Fi). Some occasional helicopter noise, but not often enough to be a problem. Wicked speed bumps! - ausonius
Nov 2017 - $35.00
Great location. Pricey for a famcamp, but given the location, understandable. Customer service is friendly but inept. Questions are met with stares and shrugs. Sites are modern, utilities in good condition. Lots of cable channels, wifi and cell work well. Great bike path runs right by the park. Sites are nice and wide. While they are not very private (the place is a big parking lot, no landscaping at all), at least you aren't camped on top of your neighbors. The waterfront sites are back in. Hence, for motorhomes, the pull through sites in the middle row are better for a nice view than the sites next to the water. Because there's so much space between sites and the rows are offset, the middle sites have a great view of the water and San Diego. Doesn't look like there's a level site in the whole park. Slightly difficult to navigate through, but it was because of people's tow cars parked outside the limits of their sites. Lots of kids, very noisy. Also, there are giant speed bumps throughout the park. They weren't that bad to drive over if you just went slow, but people would speed over them and every time a car went by, there was a big banging sound as they went over the speed bumps. There was a bad odor off the water one day of my stay, but I didn't notice it the other days. - KAP99
