This is our "local", we come here often for a two day getaway. The Orchard Hill campground is very compact, but surprisingly quiet. Sites are not large but most will accommodate a 24 ft RV and some a bit more. Stays full in the summer, many young families with kids on bikes, so expect that kind of noise. Tall redwoods and fir throughout the campground limit the sun's penetration, making it a great place cool off in summer but chilly in winter. The trees also soak up much of the road noise and provide their own chorus in a breeze. There is a flat trail/bike path along the old creek side railway right of way and more challenging trails, both short and long, among the hills on both sides of the valley. The strict 2:00pm check-in policy is a bit annoying, but mainly to those of us who remember the more casual days a few years back. Just don't get here before 2:00. We camped at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a BEAUTIFUL setting. Not many sites to fit our 29' motorhome, but there are a couple of good sites above, and a couple of good buddy sites for 2 motorhomes camping together. The Creekside RV sites are odd- park right on the road, huge campsite below but also road noise from nearby main Blvd. if you are tent camping or group use, the options are MANY and you won't find a more beautiful place. Amazing redwoods. We camped at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a typical older public park. Narrow little roads winding through the trees will not be big enough for larger rigs, in fact the lower loop has a sign saying no trailers & 18 foot maximum vehicle length, this is because of the S-curve at the end. Since the park is sharing a small narrow mountain pass with a little stream and a road you will get some road noise, especially if a big truck comes through using engine brakes. From the sites along the river you could easily throw a stone across onto the road. But it does quiet down at night and the traffic was not too heavy and did not bother me much. The staff did drive around very frequently, probably as much as I have seen anywhere, but at least they were in a quiet truck. When I arrived with no reservation I was told they usually do not check anyone in until after 2PM but they did let me in a bit before 1PM. Like most of these older parks some sites are small and close together and not too level but some are spacious and private and level.

Restrooms and showers were old but reasonably clean, If they were like this everywhere I would be quite happy. Three out of 5 bars on my Verizon phone with strong data connection.

This is a pleasant little park nicely nestled in an old forest with a friendly and attentive park staff. I stayed in the tenting area in the lower loop, they have ancient food storage lockers that look like they should be in an antique shop, they look like they are from the 1940's. I would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in a Motorhome.

This park was pleasant enough, although the trails were not well maintained. The restrooms in the upper loop were so dirty I refused to use them. The restrooms near the picnic area were closed due to budget cuts, according to the sign. It didn't bother to mention there was another (unmarked) restroom on the other side of the picnic area, which we found by accident, so other visitors were using the bushes. You have to walk to the picnic area to get Wi-Fi. No hookups and you can't run the generator until 10 a.m., which makes for a very chilly morning. There are much nicer places to camp for the money. We camped at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in a Motorhome.
