This is a pretty nice park, its kept clean and the trash it removed every day. We were in site 66, nice view just a bit challenging to back down hill into the site. Restrooms and showers were great, nice and clean. Staff was very helpful in all requests, This park is very close to Marshall gold Discovery State Park, fun place to visit and explore. Lots to do here swim or take a river ride and Placerville is just up the road a bit. The only suggestion is some of the roads in the park need a bit of work. Be sure you are very confident with backing your rig down a somewhat steep hill into your site. They do have a few sites on the lower level of the park. - Lizard
May 2017 - $65.00
We stopped at American River Resort for just 3 days. Access to park was fairly easy, navigating within the park is a bit tight. Our road was extremely steep, so I had to take time to back in, but it was pretty level after that. Hookups were IMO in the wrong place, closer to the front of the motorhome than the rear, and the sewer pipe was higher than ground level. 30amp seemed okay as we occasionally used the a/c (but we have a tiny motorhome). Office management was okay but beyond basic paperwork, they weren't much help. Showers/bathrooms were clean and fairly nice. WiFi was worthless as we could not get a signal. Verizon showed 2 bars but it was obvious that the cell tower is oversubscribed, so, not a lot of Internet connection capability here. There were a LOT of tent campers, a lot of whitewater excursion activities, which was to be expected. We would likely look for an alternative place if we were to come to the Sacramento area again. - RobtL
Aug 2015 - $65.00
This "resort" is lost somewhere in the '60's. It may have been wonderful when it was first opened however it is severely run down. There are very few full hookup sites and there are none with 50 amp service. Given the extreme temperature changes in this area, it made for an uncomfortable stay. But perhaps the two most disturbing things were the $10.00 extra per person AFTER two campers and the deplorable condition of the shower/restrooms. Almost everywhere we camp today does not charge for additional people until AFTER four campers. We were shocked that we had to pay 60.00 dollars extra (three days) for our eight and ten year grandsons!! On the other hand, this is a great place for tent campers by the American River. But, keep in mind, this is NOT a camper friendly management. It's as though it's a hobby for them and frankly, the only person I saw really working was the guy emptying the trash cans. Sorry, we camped here once before (about two years) because of the catch & release pond and thought we'd give it another try. Jury is in, won't be back. - J. Kohl

Should have known after calling two days in advance and not getting a return call and a "mailbox full" message when calling back. The lady at desk is nice....but place is a wreck. The back in sites in the last street are a slum. Older trailers and motorhomes with "yard cars", window air conditioners propped up on 2x4 stands, some yards had junk strewn around and one was in "hoarder mode". Men's bathrooms were flooded from either toilets or showers. As someone noted its an old place....very old. I could go on and on but ...we were visiting relatives and wanted to stay close.....so little choice. Do yourself a favor stay anywhere but here. - Beachman
Mar 2018 - $48.00
Stayed here 3 nights visiting relatives nearby. Wish there were more options for us to stay at in the area. The park is old, and lots of permanent residents. They are not a problem, as most sites are organized and kept clean. The management needs more people to improve service. The bathrooms are cleaned daily, but kids keep tracking muddy feet in the women's bathroom each day, and the men's bathroom seems to have a constant problem with people not putting the shower curtain in the shower, so there was water standing on the floor each day. A little re-modeling of the shower might solve this. Some moldy drywall was there as well due to the same problem. Office was closed for a while in the afternoon, and even though sign on the door said they would return at 2:00, they didn't return until 2:30, and kept new customers waiting 45 minutes (and me needing change for laundry). Would probably try another park if we return to the area. Pool was closed and green when we were there, but maybe off season. - Fitzjohnfan
Feb 2017 - $44.00
We stayed here one night because it was only 4 miles from a truck service center we needed to be at the following morning. We would not stay here again. Train horns felt like they were on top of us. We couldn't get the men's restroom unlocked. The women's restroom had water backed up in the sinks. This is a permanent park, but we didn't have any issues with that. People we encountered in the office and elsewhere were friendly. Our site was a pull-thru at an end. It worked for us for one night. - Neil and JoAnn

The host is very nice and lives on site. Check in was very easy once I found site number 1. WiFi is ok, better than most RV parks. Electricity was strong. Water and dump at each site as well. The pool looked very nice although we didn't use it. The RV park is conveniently located behind a gas station which had some of the lowest gas prices along this section of I-80 when we stayed. - WineStream
Jun 2018 - $25.00
One positive is that it is very assessable to I 80. The road into the park is very rough. The asphalt is so broken up and needs a good repair. Lots of trees if you like shade. No cable and we did not have good reception for local tv. WiFi was mostly non exsistent. There are several old liveins even though information says there are not live ins. The park is mostly filled with long term places due to local work. There is a nice pool. This park would not be a deal unless you got a Passport discount! - oniedu
Jun 2018 - $25.00
The roads in the park are a little bit rough, but we drove very slow so things worked out fine. The park is very scenic, with many, large, mature trees. We were assigned to the group camp area, which was mostly empty and very quiet. The restrooms were clean, but they were unisex and seemed to be accessible to any of the large number of people with keys. The camp hostess was very friendly and helpful and the residents were also friendly and polite. We did not have cable, but air reception was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return to this park. It is great value for the money. The map provided for the hike down to the creek is not the best. However, the hike is nice. Just wear lots of bug spray, keep close track of which way you came, and watch out for snakes in the leaves at the side of the trail. - John A Guderian

Sep 2018 - $72.00
Thoroughly enjoyed the park. It's a campground with hookups, not a park with sterile manicured concrete RV resort. Roads and parking pads were gravel. Larger rigs may find it difficult to navigate. There is a nice clubhouse. Bathrooms and showers were spotless. Forested setting so lots of shade. Park grounds were well maintained. Owners extremely friendly and helpful. - TravelinTail
May 2018 - $60.00
Excellent campground, the owners are very friendly. Dump station is real easy to use. The park is well though out, most of park is in the trees . Great walking paths near by, plus the railroad museum. Will definitely come back. - flagstaff1962
May 2018 - $70.00
Very pretty campground that has done a lot of renovations, but there are only a few good pull thru spots for us, since we have a 41' foot 5th wheel, and are 58 feet overall. I actually had to put it in 4WD when exiting the park going up a gravel hill. This park would have been given a 9 if they had sewer connections and 50 amp service. Our site # 15 was huge and right up against the fence to the Train museum. The museum was a good thing to do while you are here. The restrooms and laundry room were first class, but we did not use them. Wi-fi was great, because the campground was only about a 1/3rd full? - Vipermanden

Busy weekend, the roads coming in and the access roads are all very narrow, with camp kids spilling out into the street. Most of the sites seemed reasonably level. - Sparksrick
Sep 2016 - $48.00
Easy in, easy out. All sites in both gates are beautiful. On or off season, this is a beautiful peaceful place to stay. People in town and at the lake are warm, helpful and friendly. From reservations, the gate, marina, store and maintenance our stay was made wonderful because of them. The sunrise and sunset is unmatched because of the Osprey flying out over catching their meals. - leissa george
Jul 2015 - $32.00
We camped here twice, the first time in mid-May 2015 and again in mid-July 2015. The first time we stayed in Camp (or gate) 2; the site we stayed in was fairly roomy, level and easy to back into. The second time we stayed in Camp 1 in the "group camp site" ( mainly because we made our reservation late and this was all they had). Many of the sites in this location were not easy to back into and the site we were assigned was very unlevel, so much so I couldn't level the trailer using all the tricks I knew. I went to the office, asked for and got an alternate site which was better. Later we walked around Camp (or gate) 1 and many of the sites were fairly unlevel, so consider this if you decide to stay here. The bathrooms are clean, there is a store in Camp 2 and a lake, which is part of the campsite. We saw lots of people who had brought boats, so if water sports are your thing, consider this site. The site is near the Empire Mines state park, the towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, so there are plenty of things to do nearby. If you go there, I'd recommend camp 2. - neuronz

Aug 2018 - $1.00
Been members for a while but 1st time in an RV (39 foot 5th wheel). Roads are now fully asphalted, sites are all level on gravel and full hook-ups (ours' was 50 amp). Everything worked great! Other members were really nice (have to pass a background check to become a member) and offered great advice/ suggestions on how to maximize our enjoyment of our new 5th wheel. We didn't use the pool or hot tub this time, but love the adult rec room. There is also a teen rec room and a younger child rec room. Love this place. Well-maintained and they made a lot of improvements over the last two years. - Tgianco
Sep 2016 - $1.00
A great family campground. They have a pool, hot tub, playground, basketball, volleyball, little kids play room, teen room, adult club room (large fireplace, TV, pool table, table tennis, lots of puzzles to work & books to read). In the summer they have movies under the stars & ice cream socials. There are holiday BBQs with DJs, dancing & games. It is mountain camping at it's best. The staff is friendly & helpful. We have made 7 trips there this year. Won't go anyplace else. - P Martinez
Aug 2012 - $1.00
We bought a membership here a few months ago when our membership park went bankrupt. This is a very family friendly campground. What we like about it most is they have full hooks up (our other membership campground didn't have sewer at it's campsites) and our 13 year old kids love the teen room. It's really nice to find a campground your kids can grow with. There is a small kids room, teen room and adult room. Providing a special hang out room for teens is exactly what we needed so I never have to worry about my kids giving me the "it's so boring" whine. If you go on a crowded weekend (Memorial or Labor Day or their Luau theme day), your teens will even like it better meeting new friends in the teen hangout. The staff is friendly, although I highly recommend you drive through the park and pick out sites that accommodate your needs because you can't just describe what you need and expect to be placed in an appropriate site. We also really like the free day pass to the lake close by, Scotts Flat. That's a great perk and one of the main reasons why we bought a membership here since we bought a fishing boat a couple years ago. All in all this is a nice, family oriented camping ground and I recommend it to anyone living in the area who is considering a membership campground. - coopco

Oct 2017 - $64.00
This campground is right next to the main road with lots of traffic. We could hear the traffic from our site. Our site was spacious and it was nice to have hook up, but the cost was rather high. We barely had enough room to extend our awning. We had a fire and watched TV on our outdoor TV but between the wind and traffic noise it wasn't very fun! The site was large and we could easily fit our car along side of us. Since it was October we didn't go over to the water but there was a trail from the campground and it didn't seem too far. - RVingChick
Oct 2017 - $46.00
First off, use Beals Point SRA Campground in Google maps and it will bring you right in. Sites are nice, lots of trees and trails. Lots of air tv. Bring your quarters for the shower. We stayed here in 25 foot motorhome. Lots of space between. We would stay here again when visiting in area. - Maltese Mom
Sep 2017 - $33.00
We were looking for a place to stay in the general area to visit family in Orangevale. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed on a Friday night in early September in our 25 foot MH. This is a nice urban CG right on Folsom Lake and very convenient to Orangevale and Folsom. The CG has 2 loops. One is set up for RVs and has water and electric. The sites appear to be spread out and relatively open. The other Loop is primitive and geared towards tents, although smaller RVs are ok for some sites. We stayed in the latter. We arrived at 5pm on a Friday and got the last site with a pad that fit our RV. The sites in the primitive section were pleasantly arrayed in clusters among trees, had a mix of sun and shade and most were good sized. The sites on the outside were slightly larger and more private. Most need a bit of leveling. There's no wifi. There was good ATT and Verizon coverage. We had a quiet stay. - dsvt

Sites are very basic, with water and electric only. There is a dump station for an additional $8 per use. However, the bathrooms and shower facilities were clean and spacious, so we didn't use our waste tanks much. This is certainly a better bargain than the other place which is about 10 miles from Placerville. A grocery store, gas station and brewery/restaurant were all within walking distance. - Team Janne
May 2014 - $30.00
Thirty dollars a night, no sewer hookup, no dump station, no WiFi. When I asked in the fairgrounds office if I could put a letter with their outgoing mail, I was told I could not, but I could take it down the street to the grocery that had a "blue box". Certainly my spot was nice enough. They put me by the wine gazebo next to the museum. It was clean and it was level, but for thirty dollars a night, I would expect more. - nanzhere
Oct 2012 - $30.00
Note: phone number above good for Mon-Fri 9-4. Per earlier review, it is dispersed camping in the county fairgrounds. There are many nice spots where you can be placed. Lots of grass and open fields. We had a sweet spot near the maintenance building --sounds crummy but it was great. They had an event so we couldn't stay in this other spot nestled in a grape arbor. Maintenance guy met us at gate and was extremely helpful and accommodating. Water and electric hook ups, but no dump. Have flush toilets on site. They are trying to get a dump station in, but they are "fighting city hall". We had the whole, entire fairgrounds to ourselves. Sweet! He even gave us the key to the showers, so we had showers only we could use. Gets an 8 because the road noise is VERY noticeable. Pretty easy place to stay and easy to get to Tahoe for the day. We would return. - theresal58

I was desperate for overnight parking as 4 other parks I called from Loomis to Sacramento were booked up. Placer County Fair Grounds made space for me as they were pretty booked as well. Most campsites were occupied by long term folks that were packed in like sardines. The camp host gave me a spot off to myself with electricity only which was a relief after seeing the sardine sites. I stayed by myself while my husband was on a trip and didn't feel comfortable there by myself. Ended up moving to our family's driveway the next day. Depending on what is going on at the fairgrounds could impact your visit. Some sort of races going on when I got there on a Saturday afternoon so it was loud...but was over by 7pm. Appreciated the camp hosts giving me a nice site but I just felt unsettled while there. - JeffDeb
May 2014 - $30.00
First Fairgrounds experience and it is a good one. Made last-minute search for a place near Sacramento over Memorial Weekend. Got a number to call the host. He hooked us up with full 50amp hookups in the shade with lots of room to ourselves. Probably 20 campers over several acres. It was quiet except for several events Sat night. We walked to the car races, which were fun to watch. It quieted down after 11, which was fine. We could have gone to sleep earlier if that was our desire, not too loud. We will definitely stay here next time we're in the area. - Seb
Jan 2012 - $30.00
Other recent reviews generally reflect our opinion/experience. The best I can say is that it was quiet and affordable. The campground host, was a big help getting us into a spot during a heavy rainstorm. We camped in one of the few spots by the "Beer Garden". There are lots of other sites in a nearby open field, but not recommended should there be rain in the forecast. - rncordy

The campground is lovely - lots of trees and shade. However, the campground is located right next to the freeway (less than 200 feet away) and you are constantly assaulted by nonstop road noise. The campground does have many amenities such as a pool, pond for fishing, picnic areas and a nice store. If not for the road mouse, we would rate this as an 8. - prmin
May 2018 - $70.00
For $70 for a full hookup for one night! It's a bit excessive. Unfortunately, in this neck of the woods it's the only game in town. The roads are winding and narrow, the site was just long enough for the trailer. We had to park our truck perpendicular to the trailer to stay part way out of the road. This morning we will have to ask our neighbor to move his truck so we can get out and on the road. Site was not equipped to have a truck parked with the RV. I am handicapped and cannot walk very far. I suppose it's OK for one night except for the price. However, in my opinion all KOA's are way overpriced. - USTravelers
Jul 2017 - $59.00
We stay here whenever we visit our kids in Folsom. It is 12 miles away, but it is about the only game in town except for Folsom Lake campground. First, the good: it is a KOA, so the staff is professional, friendly, and very well organized. Service was excellent, as we have come to expect at KOA facilities. The pool was lovely, but crowded on the weekend. It looked clean. And, they recycle! This is very rare in campgrounds, strangely. There was a trash can and a recycle bin right by our campsite. Now, the bad: The park is going for a "rustic" look, and, it is a desert, so everything was crisp, dry, and brown. Roads are narrow and twisty. Also, no one guides you to your site, which is unusual in a KOA. They give you a decent map and show you where to go, but the campsite numbers are stenciled onto the electric boxes in small, faded numbers, so you have to get out of your rig to go see them. Our site was way off level. (#64). One wheel was off the ground. There is very limited car parking. We were just able to squeeze our Jeep in between a large tree and our sewer. Our electric box was broken and my husband cut himself badly on it when the lid fell on his arm. Also, the 50-amp plug in ours was cracked and broken. It worked but it didn't look safe. We will return, but we wish there were more alternatives in the area. - SusanRon
