Don’t stay here if you have slides, require more than 10 amps of power, have a dog, or a tow car. If you do not require any of these then it’s expensive but tolerable. The picture of the sites have no bearing on reality. The sites pavement is in decay, the cable does not work, the power is about 100 volts. The park is roads are narrow and very bumpy. The people who live there are pleasant and will tolerate your tow car being parked in the street. I would not return unless it was a family emergency. - P Wiggins

Heavily wooded park in redwood forest off Hwy 9. Back in site was tricky to get into for our 38 ft 5th wheel as it sat behind and at an angle to another site as well as the road. Once into the site it provided privacy and a view of the river below. Site was mostly level and access to electric, water, and sewer were convenient. Cable provided was adequate, and like most park wi-fis it worked well in hours of low demand. Verizon and Sprint with marginal service. Most of the other sites in the park were close together and the park was very full for the entire weekend. A small unfenced dog park was found at the end of our stay which was nice as it was not mentioned on the map or when we checked in. The park charges a $3 a day per dog fee. Fire rings are available in the office to rent . The town of Felton is approximately 5 minutes away and has all necessary services. Santa Cruz is approximately 15 minutes away. Be sure and follow the included directions into the park as Highway 9 is not suitable for big rigs. - bbmidwife

Actually free, part of Thousand Trails, but still NOT worth the price. You got slides? Good luck. This park was built before slides and now they have marked out narrow sites with white lines that you are expected to stay between. The fire department requires some magic distance away from the 30 amp electric socket. After getting read the riot act, very nicely, I might add, when checking in, we still ended up in a fierce argument with her when she found we were too much over the line. After I threatened to check every RV in the park to make sure they were in the lines, she gave us a few inches of leeway. She has a truly lousy job. Thousand Trails should be ashamed of themselves. RV's with slides should not be allowed and at 42', our MH leaves our Jeep out in the road, but somehow that's ok. You also park opposite your neighbor. Horrible setup. We test the water. Decent tap water (210ppm) and fairly soft. Thousand Trails is two for two with us so far - two losers. Don't come here. Santa Cruz is nothing anyway. The boardwalk is seedy. - Odyssey

Morgan Hill is an old Thousand Trails campground with many amenities including a large pool. The sites are well spaced and shaded in most of the park. The few fifty-amp sites are very close together with no shade. They have a lot of rules including a 5-mph speed limit which they enforce belligerently. It is very dusty, especially in the fifty-amp area. The whole experience starts badly as your new neighbors complain about the dust you create as you come in. This is especially true with the class A diesel whose engine fans raise a lot of dust. The electrical power presents many problems from low voltage to total failure - usually at about 2:30 pm. Though there are no sewer hookups there are two dump stations and they will pump your tanks for $45. I would highly recommend this park to those who have not reached their abuse quotient for the month. - The Penguin
Aug 2019 - $1.00
Nice laid out park. Seems like some updating has been done. We were in the 50 Amp section which was very dusty and little shade. The BIG issue was the low voltage problems. Normally in these situations we would utilize our Solar system, but it was to hot to run the inverter with our conditoner to long, so we ran our Generator until it cooled down durning the evening. - ERIC KRISTY ADVENTURES
May 2019 - $1.00
This small park is one of the best maintained in the Thousand Trails system. In 2018 they invested $2 Million in the park's infrastructure, and plan to spend an additional $1M in 2019. Our site was level and very spacious with a gravel drive and a large grass lawn, separated from the next site by a decorative fence. Some sites were smaller, but there were many like ours in the 30 amp area. There are a limited amount of 50 amp sites at this time. Because of ecological considerations there are only a few sites with sewer hookup. There is a honeywagon available for $25, but since it was not very difficult to move our motorhome we simply went to one of the several dump stations twice during our stay. Most campers had those little pull-behind poop wagons to carry their waste to the dump station, but that's not our thing! The pool is large and well maintained. There are scheduled activities throughout the summer for families. Some people complain that the park is too strict in enforcing their rules (eg 5mph throughout the park), but we had no problems and found the staff to be friendly and helpful throughout. - Miles and Smiles

Stayed here to be close to the Boardwalk, and the opportunity to look at some yachts and catamarans. The location is superb, and like others have said before, even though it is a glorified parking lot the location makes up for that. The host was a real piece of work. He made things more difficult than needed and made us move twice to put our extended slide out exactly on the line of the site. We errored on the inside, keeping our extended slide a few inches inside our assigned space, but he felt it was essential to have the side-out on the line exactly. Just strange, how un-enjoyable a host can make an arrival. Despite him we had fun, and did our best to stay away from the site as much as possible throughout the day. We used Uber to go back and forth downtown. Cost around $7 each trip, making this an easy mode of transportation, and even better value than paying parking downtown. - DeBoer Family
Jun 2016 - $52.00
This RV spot, and I hesitate to call it a "park" because there is not much there to define a RV park. It is basically a lined off set of parking spots with a power pedestal and a picnic table. There was enough room for our 37' motor home, and we were able to pull the Jeep all the way to the back of the site so we could put chairs in the front for a view of the boats and the marina. There is a real love/hate relationship when talking about this stop. The parts to love are backing into your site and and having a view of Santa Cruz harbor and marina out of the front window. The sites are full hook up and the water pressure is strong. The sites are all pavement so dirt or sand is not an issue. The cell signal is strong and the Verizon air card worked well. There is no public WiFi offered. The hate part of the relationship is that the RV spaces are bordered by a road directly in front of the sites. Our rig was inches from the white line that represented the edge of the traffic lane that runs in front. While exiting the rig if a car was going by, it would be mere feet from you. There is a 10 mph speed limit on the road, which is universally ignored by just about everyone. Vehicles usually sped by at 20 to 30 mph, oblivious that pedestrians were walking by. Another oddity was the lack of any restroom and shower facilities available. While there are two shower toilet rooms along the marina walkway, signs are posted that they are for the use of the marina slip renters only. One of the buildings had a sign that is was open to the public between the hours of 8 AM to 6 PM, but the doors were never unlocked. The doors required a key or a pass code to enter. The RV camp host was also kinda flaky. He was in the site next to us, but he was rarely there, and when he was he was never available. We paid $52 a night for the park, with no discounts or break for staying for a week. All in all it was not a bad park, but there was not much to make it memorable either. - SargeW
Feb 2016 - $52.00
Little has changed since the prior reviews. This is still a section of parking lot at the northern end of the yacht harbor with full hook ups and little else. It is quiet at night, but while we were here they were running a dredge right in front of the RV area for several hours a day--like having a loud generator running. The eucalyptus trees above us drop hard nuts on our RV occasionally that sound like gunshots. There are not many options in Santa Cruz and this park is in a great location and has a rather pretty view of the boats in the harbor and the surrounding hills, but for the price, this "camping spot" leaves a lot to be desired. As others have said, the sites are narrow (about 20 feet wide) but easy to back a trailer into and enough room to sit outside. Maximum RV length is 42 feet. In spite of the drawbacks, this park has been nearly full for our whole stay. We will be happy to move to New Brighton State Park in a few days. - MrSunshine

The campground and location are really nice. We were in #65 without hookups, but there are sites with water/electric if you book far enough in advance. There was a trail opposite the site beyond ours with lovely views of the coastline and I think that trail lead down to the beach. We would definitely stay here again. - Travel Junky

New Brighton is truly a hidden gem. In a few minutes you are in downtown Capitola and Santa Cruz. Full hook-ups are available but need to be reserved months in advance. 3 of the 4 restrooms have been updated but the one adjacent to us needed help. There is an incredible amount of space between each site which is very important if you like your privacy and solitude. It can get noisy however, but for the most part it was quiet after 10.00 pm. See tips below for more info. - JustImagine

Funny to rate a park a 9 and then cite so many flaws, but you are backed in about 100 feet from the ocean and that's what it's all about. The sites are slightly unlevel and you need at least two sewer hoses if you have a motorhome. Site was full of weeds and the road in is long overdue for a repave. None of it mattered when we were sitting around the camp fire watching the waves! - z32k12
Apr 2018 - $65.00
Sea Cliff is a State owned/ran RV camping and day use area. We were in the full hook up area at the far north end of the park, and there are 3 dry camp lots, A,B and C as well. The dry camp spots are pretty much asphalt parking area with lines painted on the ground for your site. They were approximately 27X60'. The full hook up sites are narrow long sites with each one having 6" raised curb planters on each side. Unfortunately the planters were sand, and grassy weeds that were in dire need of cutting. The FHU sites had a heavy duty picnic table and raised fire pit at the front of the site. The sewer hook up was at the back of the sites, so bring lots of sewer hose. They are approximately 39X56'. Each site backs up to a public walkway that is about 8' wide and runs the length of the beach. On the other side of the walkway is the sand and the waves. On the front side of the sites is the road, and a embankment that's about 100+ feet tall. It used to be that there was zero cell signal in the camping area, but there is usable signal now probably from added cell towers in the area. The FHU sites are 30 amp only, but with a little conservation the 30 amp was not an issue. I love the relation of the sites to the beach, but the overall park is in dire need of maintenance. There is much weeding that needs to be done, the entrance road in front of the sites which is up against the embankment is over grown with trees and shrubs, and several large pot holes need filling in the road. The restrooms are typical for a public beach location, block walls and sparse on the inside. They are handicapped accessible, but there are NO hot showers available. Only cold water outdoor showers. Another point to keep in mind, they had me read and sign a small slip of paper upon checking in that advised among other things that there was a theft alert as chained generators and ice chests have been stolen. I very much like RVing at the beach, but as you can see there are trade offs. - SargeW
Dec 2017 - $55.00
Great location. We dropped in on a sunday and they pulled names at random to fill the few locations that had hookups. we got lucky but declined since it was only good for one day. we stayed 3 days in a dry spot. there were plenty of those. there is only a $10/day difference for hookups. I think $20 discount for a dry spot would be more appropriate. a toilet "only" bathroom was close by but it became locked on the 2nd day. the next one was a bit of a hike. they were moderately clean...not too impressive. - D to the V

This was a great find! The park does have many full-timers on site, but it has a few spaces reserved for people coming for days, weeks, or months as well. It is only 2 blocks from the beach! It was perfect for a week at the beach. There are shops close by for food within walking distance as well. The spots are very close to one another. It is a large parking lot, but there are spots of grass for dogs, if you have them, just a short walk to the front of the park and of course, the beach. The owner, Chuck, is very accommodating and friendly. He was great all week while we were there. Everyone at the park is very friendly and helpful with directing you where to go in the area. We had a great experience, and we definitely recommend this park if you are anywhere near the area. It is affordable and just blocks away from the beach with full hook-ups! To note, the wifi is great! We work full time from our RV and we rarely use the park's wifi because it is too slow for the work we do on our computers, but this wifi was very impressive! If your travel trailer is over 31 feet long, I would request spot number 5 because it is one of the only spaces you could back directly into. If you are not an advanced level "reverser", unfortunately, I would think you would need to consider elsewhere. The spaces just cannot accommodate larger trailers. We have two slides that are across from one another and we were only able to pick one side to put out because the spaces just don't allow for the room. We were fine with this, and most do not have slides directly across from one another, so it shouldn't be an issue, but just something to be aware of. Also, the sewer hookups are the old school iron pipe, not threaded PVC, so be sure to put a rock on top of your sewer hose or use a donut to be sure it doesn't come out while you are dumping. Overall, a good park and one you should consider if you are wanting a spot close to beach near Santa Cruz. - gonecoastal724
Jan 2013 - $32.00
Rate shown for 1 week stay divided by 7. Access road poor to fair pavement. Narrow park roads. I had to back up the exit route in order to get to my assigned site. Park sites are short and most will not accommodate RV lengths longer than 26-34 feet. The manager advised that only 7 of the sites are for transients. Our site was an unlevel paved back-in. More of a parking lot with lines there is no privacy between sites. All utilities worked. The cable TV selection was extensive and worked well. The Wi-Fi was intermittent and would cut out at times. Our site was close to the road and it got quite noisy at times. The laundry had 2 washers and 2 dryers. The wife said she was happy with their efficiency. Friendly accommodating manager. Still, we probably won't return due to the noise levels. - Onemoretrail

Small park with mostly long-time residents. They are parking spaces, really. But it's got clean restrooms, showers, laundry, reliable Wi-Fi and cable, and great location near, but not on, the beach. Very nice manager, and quiet, friendly park. Nearby restaurants and stores. - Wendywoods

Jun 2017 - $45.00
This is a more of a permanent resident park than for travelers. The owners were very accommodating and friendly as was the manager. But the available space(s) was very short (we have a 36' fifth wheel with a deck) and even backed up as far as we could go, without the deck open, we were still sticking out into the road a bit. The trash and recycling (which was next to us) was seriously overflowing and very smelly. The bathrooms were locked (they supplied a key for a deposit) and showers were coin operated. It was not clean and it was very cold - quite open to air flow. Only one of the three showers worked and two out of the three toilets were operational. On the plus side, it was a few miles out of town (Santa Cruz), wooded around the exterior and we were on the creek - so it was a fairly quiet setting (just some road traffic on the other side of the creek). Our hotspot (Verizon) did not work and we could not pick up any OTA TV stations by antenna. Another camper (about 30') came in the first night but left the next day. It is a difficult park to maneuver in with anything longer than about 30'. - mountainwinddancer
Mar 2016 - $45.00
This park is different, up a very rural road and on the side of a mountain. It used to be a church camp before it was an RV park, aand they still have a chapel and do weddings, the sign says. It is mostly about 30 extended-say sites but also has just a few overnight openings, so call first. Some spaces have no sewer, ask first... but there is a dump station. It has extensive hiking trails (poorly maintained) that connect with a large public park adjacent. Very quiet, natural forested setting, nice interesting full timers and staff. Maintenance is a bit behind, the pool is disabled restrooms partially disabled, But this is so informal and friendly, a lovely setting, with easy 2 mile Santa Cruz town access. We stayed a week (7th day free) to rest and read and enjoy the great camp atmosphere. - solarsteve4x4
Aug 2015 - $65.00
The other reviews are quite old. Evidently this park has gone down hill since those reviews. The park was in bad shape with many old, old rigs, some of them abandoned, slowly rotting into the ground. There were also old abandoned cars covered with weeds and vines. With no wifi, no TV and no cell coverage the price was outrageous. The owners are very sweet and helpful. I would definitely not stay here again. - Trek Across America

I was in a level, dirt, back in site. I did not have to level the trailer side to side. Most sites were large with a picnic table and food storage cabinet. There is also a fire ring. Site was a mixture of sun and shade. - travelcouple
Sep 2016 - $37.00
For RVs, this isn't an ideal experience. Many of the sites are not level, there are no RV conveniences like hookups, wifi, etc. But, every site comes with a picnic table and a fire ring (capable of BBQ'ing). Some sites are more spacious, some more private. The showers are coin operated: 25 cents per minutes. There is no RV water fill-up nor dump site. (You can use the Brighton Beach State Park dump site as part of your Henry Cowell fee however). Site #20 is very much not level, and right next to a trail head. Although it's close to the restrooms, it's best for tent campers. We moved over to site #27 and loved it for both it's openness and privacy (it's a large site). Lots of shade! - SLOman
Oct 2014 - $37.00
Henry Cowell is a beautiful park, very close (10 minute drive) to Santa Cruz and even closer to Felton (grocery stores, gas, etc.). The campground is old and the sites vary a lot as to size, level, etc. We barely fit in our site (#39) but there were several that would have fit our 31-foot fifth wheel just fine. It is a very beautiful place to stay with hiking trails, nearby redwood grove and reasonable privacy and quiet. - MrSunshine

Park is very family friendly with a a lot of kids riding bikes around but was quiet for the most part. First trip back to this park after some time and impressed by the improvements since our last trip. The pull through sites have been repaved and trees and bushes cut well back so you don't scratch up the rig getting in and out. The whole place looks great. Lots of new amenity's since last visit. Bocce ball court, corn hole, horseshoe pits, huge new dog run, lots of new grass areas. Staff is very helpful and friendly. This is a kids paradise and even fun for us older folks. Can't find anything to complain about. New owners deserve a big "well done". - SLOChuckD

Extremely over priced even for California. We had a back in full hookup site. Room to park tow in front. All amenities for kids including heated pool, bouncy, playground. Okay wifi. This was prime season and it was full every day. Hundreds of kids everywhere having fun on bikes etc. You pay for the location and amenities. Will stay again if have to for the grandkids! - teepee51

Do not arrive even 5 minutes early because if you do they will charge you an extra $20! We arrived 5 minutes early and the office was closed for lunch. We were happy just to be done driving and so were just hanging out at the car. A woman comes up to us and says she will have to charge us an extra $20 cause we were in the parking lot. Not wanting to argue with her we were tired after the long drive we said fine whatever. In the end she took awhile assigning our site and processing our card so by the time she did this it was check in time. Seemed like a rip off but she said she had to do this it wasn't her choice. Other than that the site was fine but packed in like sardines. Dump and hookups are inches from the picnic table which wouldn't be cool if there were campers next to us. We made the most of it and had a good time but next time I'm in the area I will camp elsewhere. - vmcintee
