First off, there should be two separate listings for Point Mugu: Thornhill Broome and Sycamore Canyon, which are entirely separate and completely different campgrounds. This review is for Thornhill Broome.

So, let's be frank... there's a good chance your neighbors are gonna suck. They might be party types, they might be stinky generator types and they might be barking dog types.... or all 3. So, there's that. And you're probably gonna feel the wind of passing Highway 1 vehicles against the side of your trailer, because that's how close you are to the highway. BUT.... you'll also feel the rumble of crashing waves under your trailer, because that how close you are to the ocean. And what a magnificent ocean it is... the view here is honestly worth the crappy neighbors and traffic noise. We camped at Point Mugu State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Neptunes Nest is a nearby and famous biker bar with pretty good food and drinks. There is a camp store at Leo Carillo Campground about 15 minutes south on PCH and they will let you in the park for free to use it.

We stayed a the Thornhill Broome campground. Sites are parallel parked next to the beach with room for a slide out. Sites are only 31ft nose to tail so it can be a little tight if someone is already in the sites in front and behind of yours. The rules say you must be on the pavement but all the trailers had the tow vehicle backed in with the rear wheels on the sand to fit. It gets crazy when you try to leave. The road is only 1 lane wide and you must go to the end of the road and do a u-turn in the cul-de-sac. No camp host and the State park employee was only there on Friday. A ranger from the Sycamore grove campground did make a daily run through the park. There was no enforcement of the generator hours, either. We camped at Point Mugu State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at Thornhill-Broom. We love the place and dislike the people. The person next to you is either homeless or is a rig with a generator that could not care less about where the exhaust or the noise is pointed. If you want a quiet relaxing time at the ocean, this is NOT the place unless you like lawnmowers running all the time. We camped at Point Mugu State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We camped at the Sycamore Canyon Campground for 4 nights with our entire family (15 people in all). I booked 2 sites and we had lots of room. In fact our sites were huge. The toilets and showers were cleaned every morning and the trash was picked up daily. Very picturesque in the canyon with lots of very good hiking trails. You can walk to a very attractive beach with picnic tables. We camped at Point Mugu State Park in a Motorhome.

I give it a 7 for the view. Your door is right on the sand. The park was almost empty this time of year and the weather was nice. The spots further down have better access to the ocean, some of the coastline is rocky at the north end of the campground. We camped at Point Mugu State Park in a Travel Trailer.

You are right on the beach, like you step out your door and you are on sand. The view was incredible, with Point Mugu Rock in the background. Yes, PCH is right behind you, but the view is worth it and the highway quiets down at night. You fall asleep to the waves crashing. We are a total of 47 ft long with the TT and TV it was an extremely tight fit, in fact the people behind us moved their TV for us to get in. The beach toward the park entrance is all rocks, but the further down you go it turns into sand. There are only porta-potties there. The dump station is at Sycamore Canyon. There is no fee if you show your Thornehill Broome ticket. We camped at Point Mugu State Park in a Travel Trailer.
