We were here over Mother's day weekend, plus 2 days after. Check in was a nightmare. RVs were stacked up on the entrance road, had to park and walk up the hill to check in. Long lines inside. You'd think they'd be prepared for this. From arrival to pulling into our site took about an hour. As someone else said, this place is dangerous for kids - tons of kids darting around on bikes and skateboards. We almost hit one child who cut in front of us. This is the parent's fault though. Too many adults drinking and talking loudly around the campfire, paying no attention at all. What a difference Sunday night! Very quiet and peaceful. I would never come here on a weekend again. Our site was very un-level. First half flat, the rest sharply sloping up. Most sites were nice and grassy, but ours was dirt and weeds. If most of the park is nice, why let multiple 50 amp pull through sites be in this condition? Cable TV also did not work. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This KOA is perfectly located for exploring San Fransisco, Bodega Bay, Dry Creek, Sonoma wine area and even Napa is doable. You could easily spend a week in the area and Petaluma is a charming town to be centered in. We were there during Mothers Day weekend and the park was completely full. There is a lot for kids to do but there is very little supervision by KOA we had kids and adults cut through our site both walking and riding a bike. Very loud at night with no quiet time and no KOA employee to be found. Driving thru the park was an adventure with bikes and very little kids cutting in front of you. We love to camp with our grandkids but this park was not safe. The park is built on a hill and the sites are not level, there was weak water pressure and hookups in an awkward location. We had the feeling the employees where over whelmed and had lost control. Only the location will bring us back. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

So definitely believe the negatives of this park. On the weekends, it's a complete madhouse. The park caters to families with young kids. And yes, the first time you see Thursday roll around you will be in bewildered awe how ridiculously busy it is. A ton of in and out traffic. The sites are also extremely hit-or-miss. Some are level, some aren't. Some have access to satellite signal, others don't. That said, the area itself is lovely. The sites, if you get a nice site, is really functional. There are lots of trees (nice for privacy, bad for satellite). It is big rig friendly, although there are some tight turns. Slow and steady will get you in and out. On non-weekends, it's a great park. On the weekends, just prepare, know it will be bad and figure out things to do in town far away from the madhouse. We stayed in sites 177 (no sat), 178 (sat) and 240 (we didn't have it, then we did once we put the jacks out). Site 240 was completely unlevel and for the first time actually had to put blocks out (we have air leveling as well as jacks in our class A). That said, after the shock of the romper room that starts on Thursday nights, we found ourselves enjoying it here. Quick note: if you want an end spot (and these are the much better spots because they have a usable firepit and a swing), call and pay $20 to reserve that spot. They don't advertise this on the website. Requesting it won't get it. The firepits on non-end spots are pretty unusable because you're practically in your neighbor's window. Sites are tight and we had to park our tow vehicle elsewhere in order to also park in an area to access satellite. The interior roads were confusing. Are they one-way? No one seemed to know. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you want a specific spot, call the office to reserve it for an extra $20. It may seem like a rip off but you'll be grateful you did. Otherwise your spot will not be ideal.

Arrived for one night, after dark, in the driving rain. Reception was friendly and quick, but due to the poor lighting, complex layout and close quarters I had to make an extra loop to locate our site. A guide would have been very helpful. The site was a pull through but on a hillside and muddy off the pad area. In general, adequate but nothing special. The park overall was nothing special, but had a number of family oriented facilities. We would stay there again, but only as a matter of convenience when passing through. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

We only stayed one night, and it was December so there weren't the usual crowds. Check in was easy, staff courteous and efficient. Site was reasonably level & spacious. The previous camper must have had a problem dumping his black tank though, as there was waste on the ground. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Large park with sites of average size. We were there in the rainy season so the sites with thin grass were a bit muddy. Close to San Francisco, but located in the beautiful farmland of northern CA. Lots of activities for kids. Nice dog park. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Huge park and very busy. Mostly locals, so tons of kids on weekends, but still busy in week. Rates much more expensive on weekends. Actually too many kids on banana bikes, some with no helmets or flags. Tricky driving with them all over the place. Many amenities, but mostly kid oriented. San Fran trip did not have enough takers so had to book in and drive to city. Found park hard to drive around. Need a few EXIT signs. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Real nice "woodsy" park. We had an end space and loved it. They seem to have a resident camp kitty who fell in love with my husband. What a sweet kitty to. Lots of shade and overall a pleasant place. We'd go back again in a heartbeat. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

I'm a travel nurse and enjoyed my stay. The laundry room did get busy on the weekends, but that's to be expected. They allowed my 3 chihuahuas to stay and didn't have a problem. The park is a bit expensive but it was perfect for my job in Santa Rosa. Staff was nice. I was able to store my flatbed trailer at the park as well. If I'm in the area, I would stay again. Just be aware that there are lots of kids that stay on the weekends. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

We were here for a week, unfortunately including Labor Day weekend. It was a madhouse; every square inch was covered with people. There were so many children on bicycles, it became a safety risk to walk the dogs. Awful! Then it cleared out and it was a quiet normal campground with tight, short, level spots. There is almost no grass, just dry dirt. There were several washers and dryers out of order in the laundry room. We had an overnight guest and they charged extra for her visit. We had someone come do some work in our RV for 1 1/2 hours and they charged us extra for that too. It is a convenient location, so I guess that is what you are paying for. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

The men's RR was constantly out of toilet paper and filthy. I usually use the handicapped facilities in campgrounds because of my needs; I could not use these because of the above mentioned issues. The ladies working in the office were very nice and trying very hard to handle all the issues coming from the customers. But, what are apparently supervisors were curt and rude and interrupted the workers, in front of us, to correct. Embarrassing them is not the way to supervise or train employees. It was uncomfortable for me to witness this. A premium site should be level enough to get your rig at some sort of useable angle, but they aren't. Although a night patrol was on duty, little was done about the noise until after 2:00am. For the prices charged, I expected a better quality, i.e. relative level site, laundry facilities working, clean site, quiet hours enforced. I'll dry camp at the Walmart before I stay here again. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

We loved this place. This is a great place if you have children, great if you don't but you won't use a lot of the amenities. Petting zoo, climbing wall, bounce pillow, pool, hot tub, playground, arcade, extensive store (including local wines), an outside movie by the pool every evening and a pancake breakfast on the Sunday morning we were there. They have something going every week in the summer. We took the San Francisco tour which was awesome. The tour guide does a great job and takes you places you can't go to on the big buses and has great background having grown up there. We can't say enough good about this tour. All the staff we interacted with were friendly. The only thing that could be better is warmer, sunnier weather but they can't control that. We have already recommended this place to friends who have stayed there and liked it as well and we would definitely stay again. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Convenient location for families looking for an escape from the Bay area (1 hour from San Francisco via 101). Clean facilities with grass/gravel RV sites which are tree covered, spacious with some privacy. The corner lots have a bench and firepit. The park is in a country area a few minutes from the freeway. A great place for a family to stay with lots of activities. Internet access is a bit slow, be prepared to bring your own device for mobile hotspot. I'm going to be as fair as I can for a campground the guy in the next site called, "The Campground from Hell."

First, the positives: The bathrooms and showers weren't gross, just old and shabby. The staff weren't rude, just not very helpful.

On a negative note, just getting into the campground can be a chore due to a narrow, 2 lane driveway that new arrivals park on to register. If you're already registered, you drive on the opposite side of the drive and hope no one is going the other way. The narrow, tight sites had mixed full hookup, partial hookups, and tents in the same area. The guy in a tent site across from us ran his LOUD, ancient generator for most of the day and evening. Dog owners, per usual, let their dogs do their business on others' sites rather than the provided the dog run. The interior roads are narrow, tight and not well marked. Many units were rentals with first time or, at best, once per year campers totally oblivious to common campground etiquette. People regularly cut through our site. This is where grandparents take grandkids and allow them to wreak havoc, load them up with sugar and buy them a puppy before returning them to their parents as revenge. The WiFi was too anemic and throttled to be of any use. There were flies everywhere, probably from the cows next door. The dogs at the house next to the campground barked, howled and were out of control.

To be perfectly fair, kids between 6 to 10 love this place because everything is geared toward them. As a retirees with no grandkids, we would never stay here again. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.
