Avoid this RV park if you can. Problem is, there are not many choices around San Francisco. The place was jammed with people, crowds of kids running around, it's a large park on a hillside. They come and clean your tanks every day when sewer is not available. We didn't like staying there and would avoid it when possible. Not good considering the price!! We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice KOA in a great location in the Sonoma/Napa area. The park is large, very clean and definitely family friendly. We stayed in a premium site which gave us plenty of room for our 36 ft 5th wheel and truck. We had a large concrete patio, patio table with chairs and umbrella and another seating area. Our site was beautifully landscaped as well. They have a nice pool, petting zoo, rock climbing wall and other activities for kids. Free cable and WiFi; our satellite worked from our site. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lots to do in this area. We went to wineries, went to Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve-amazing giant redwoods, Sonoma Coast State Park, and watched our hometown team Houston Astros play in Oakland.

They put us in spot 111. Must be for overnighters. Half the park was empty and they squeeze us into the smallest spot possible? Really! Not impressed. Goats at the petting zoo were the only perk here. We won't be back at $78 a night. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We usually love coming here, but this time we reserved a full hookup with cable. When we got there we were given a choice of cable or sewer. They did offer us consierge sewer cleanout, which consisted of draining only water out of the tanks. Took them about 5 minutes max. We were stuck out by the cabins and even though they are re-landscaping, we had nothing but mud and very little gravel. Lots of mud. Just not the park we are used to. Prices just keep going up. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Very poorly maintained. Price too high for what is offered this time of year. RV spot gravel and dirt and not level. Had to block up on two blocks to level. The mens restroom had a towel to wipe feet on before entering. Didn't use the women's restroom. The store had a can of Campbell's soup for $2.59. (way over priced) The RV spaces were quite tight. The WIFI and Cable were good. We saw a "petting zoo" and it appeared to have a young horse or pony there. It didn't look like there was much for the horse or anyone else to do. Would not stay here again, because of the price and the maintenance. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

As said in many reviews, this is a huge park - I was told it is the largest KOA in the country. Perhaps it is. Extremely busy. There are children everywhere, and people milling about everywhere. However, we did notice that at quite time, it was. Our site ( #173) was right across from the rec center, where entertainment was held almost nightly. Not an ideal quiet site. No satellite in this site, either. As stated before, the sites are not level. We were not paying attention to this as much as we should have, and we ended up dropping our 5th wheel on the truck as we unhooked, because our rig rolled back, and we had not chalked the rig wheels. Our fault, but a level site would have helped - they run slightly uphill.... There is a brand new part of the park that we wish we had known about, with large pull through sites with patios, in a very quiet part of the park. If we ever stay here again, we will pay the extra $$ and stay there. The laundry facilities have the best looking machines I have seen in any park for a long time. The tour of San Francisco that is offered through the park is excellent! Well worth the $$. So informative and entertaining! And the people at the front desk are very helpful answering questions about getting into the city, and things to do. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Proximity to San Francisco is the draw of this park. An hour gets you to the bay, if traffic is not bad. We took a ferry right to a Giants game, and the public bus that picked up about a mile from the park and took us right down to Pier 33 for an Alcatraz tour (book these way in advance!) . Pick your site from their website map, and pay the fee to reserve it for yourself - away from the cabins and the rec tent, if you want some quiet.

We only stayed one night, and it was December so there weren't the usual crowds. Check in was easy, staff courteous and efficient. Site was reasonably level & spacious. The previous camper must have had a problem dumping his black tank though, as there was waste on the ground. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Worst KOA experience yet. Be prepared for cold, unhelpful, and inconsiderate customer service. We'd been having engine problems with our tow vehicle (for our 5th wheel) and arrived early in hopes of getting a spot so we could unhook and take the truck in for service. We were told by the staff that we arrived too early and check-in was at 2pm so we'd have to wait until then.

This place is crowded and the sites are extremely close together; the pool was packed with so many kids you couldn't get in. The bathrooms were not clean and kept up; the showers were filthy and it was obvious they weren't inspected and cleaned daily. The laundry room was decent, except for 3 of 6 dryers were broken, with signs on them that said "check back tomorrow" -- but no one ever came to repair them.

Check out is 11am. At 9am and still no truck, we talked to the staff to let them know of our problem and they coldly responded that we had until 2. At 2pm a staff member showed up in a truck and towed our trailer to the cow field below the KOA and charged us a $20 towing fee. Despite having no hookups in the cow field (but lots of cow manure) they told us we were no longer registered guests and therefore were not welcome to use their facilities any longer. We spent the night in the cow field and the next morning they warned us we had to be out by noon, or we'd be charged another night.

Awful treatment for such an expensive, crowded, and not well kept-up campground; and awful treatment of Active Duty military personnel. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

A great family facility. There a large playground, a petting zoo, a large enclosed dog park. Sites are a little short (most tow vehicles stick out into the roads). A code is needed to get in. There's a well stocked camp store. The road to the park (not in the park) is a patchwork of potholes. The only real negative about the park is the WiFi (Tengo). It works OK (not great) when the park isn't full, but it is incredibly slow when there are lots of campers. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites are super tight and only one vehicle could fit. We have a forty foot trailer and it was close that we weren't in the road. Very expensive at $58 for water and electric only. $75 for full hookups pull through. They did have some nice features for kids such as a petting zoo and a huge bouncy bag, along with a pool and they certainly make the most out of the little space they have. We were also pretty disappointed that the camp itself wasn't clean when we pulled in (beer caps in the fire pit). For that kind of money the place should have been spotless. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for almost two weeks to attend a family wedding in Petaluma. The park was immaculate and offered many amenities for all types of campers...great gravel pads for large rigs with full hook ups, lovely shade sites with room in between, picnic tables, swings, redwood lounge chairs, a pool, a petting zoo, and wonderful views of the hills. The camp hosts were especially helpful when we extended our stay and actually held a site for us so we could move our rig early in the morning. You are have great proximity to Point Reyes National Seashore, Jenner, San Francisco and wineries. This is the best KOA we gave ever stayed in! We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Korbel winery is beautiful and offers tastings at no charge. Take a side trip to Point Reyes National Seashore, Bodega Bay or Jenner to see whales, seals and beautiful beaches. The trip from Larkspur into San Francisco on the ferry was beautiful and only cost $5 for seniors.

Overall Rating:

Stayed for three rainy weeks in December, during the period of severe flooding in Sonoma County.

The good: Nice and generally very quiet. Friendly staff. Pretty setting and close to the freeway and the historic city of Petaluma. Modest petting farm and small pastures for mini horses, goats and cows.

The not-so-good: Started out in a gravel space on the hill under mature trees, which was a bit cramped and very muddy and slippery (soggy leaves). Eventually moved down to a concrete space near the central laundry/shower/rec room building. Not as muddy and messy but the sewer hook-up was set in a depression that was constantly flooded and the water from up the hill flowed right across my space and across the roadway in front of it. I raked up the soggy leaves around my trailer myself. I got very dirty very often. Noisy obnoxious holiday party in the rec room one night complete with someone chattering away on a Microphone 50 feet from my trailer (fortunately it didn't go on too late).

That said, it's a convenient, pleasant location, and the nicest in the stretch between Cloverdale and Petaluma. I would stay here again (hopefully after the drainage issues get fixed). We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is based on monthly, including metered power. We were in the older section used mostly for monthlies or long-termers. Heavily wooded, making maneuvering with a big rig dicey at times (getting our 40' fifth-wheel in and out of our site with our dually was challenging to say the least). Overall a very nice park in a rural setting. Very well maintained, staff very professional and effective (for instance, we had tons of rain during our stay--the big floods--and they regularly cleaned all the drains). Lots of activities for children including a petting zoo. As with most KOAs these days, a little pricey in our opinion. We would probably not stay here again because of the cramped quarters. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is for a nice grassy end site with some outdoor furniture near a fire ring. That said, our only complaint about paying (about double) for a nice grassy site is, a lot of dog owners in the complex brought their pets over to the grassy site to take care of their business....even though we're sitting in our lawn chairs about 10-feet away from them. We complained to the staff about this when we were here last year, so we thought maybe they had placed some signs on the grass sites reminding the dog owners to please use the designated pet areas. So, since they haven't we decided we're not coming back here anymore. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
