Overall, a nice park, but very expensive. It is well maintained, well staffed, and has controlled access. Sites are close with tight, but manageable interior paved roads. Sites 93-102 and 113-118 are the nicest, with sites 137-166 also nice, but closer together. Our site (155) was difficult to get a 43 foot motorhome into and did not have room for our tow vehicle, but we found a parking spot nearby. A variety of amenities and activities for children, small dog park, petting zoo, pool. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lagunitas brewery close by, as is Henhouse (our favorite) and 101 North Brewing. Russian River Brewing brewpub in Santa Rosa is a good dinner option. San Francisco is about 45-60 min drive.

Because of the fires in California I had to rearrange my plans for the trip, and so went to this park at the last minute. It is a very nice park, but was quite expensive. Paid more than I normally would have. Pull through site was good, with shade from big trees. Well kept grounds, and a lot of amenities. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Did the Online booking for a 40' class A with slides and tow. 50amp, with sewer. Price was about $100. per night (Fri.-Mon). The park was jammed with campers, kids, bikes. The spot I had, was on a fairly steep grade with barely enough room (had to make several maneuvers in order to get it onto the lot). The picnic table on the lot had to be moved off the lot onto the embankment in order to bring the slid out. Fortunately, I carry additional blocks to put under the leveling system. I needed them. There was a Fire Ring on the site, but could not sit anywhere by it. It's positioned on the downside bank. Noticed 'others' used it as a 'trash' deposit area. It's a great kids park, with lots of things and other kids to play with. Friends stayed in the newer sites (pull-thru). They are very nice with composite patio deck and chairs. It would have been nice to stay there if I would have known. The only disadvantage is the wind. Open area. Did not use any of the facilities, so I can't comment on that. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

We always enjoy staying at a KOA and this location was no different. There are tons of activities and friendly staff. This was by far the largest and busiest KOA we have ever stayed at. The only issue we had was our site was not level. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $119.00
Overall Rating:

Our costs seems high for a KOA, but it was for eight days for one of their new premium pull thru sites that included paved patio, a large amount of furniture and daily pump out of our tanks eliminating the need for a sewer hose. These sites are some of the best we've seen for entertaining family or friends. Having said that there are, IMHO, a couple of negatives. The showers closest to the premium sites are the smallest (think telephone booth) that we've seen. They force you to undress within the restroom or inside the shower stall. However the showers located behind the office are typical KOA; a shower stall and a dressing area behind a door. Second, there is a six person headcount limit for each site regardless of age. We were told if we had above six visitors, we would have to rent a tent site even if they weren't camping. For the daily rate we paid the headcount limit should have been waived. As other reviewers have said this is a family friendly KOA with all the amenities geared toward keeping kids occupied and happy. The resort is convenient to Hwy 101 and a short drive to San Francisco and the wine country. The staff were helpful and friendly. WiFi was OK, cable was offered, but we used our satellite system. Laundry was adequate. We would camp here again, but would look at other parks for similar amenities for large adult entertaining. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Hog Island Oyster Co about 30 mins away on Highway 1 is excellent for lunch. They serve their own oysters and offer additional items for non-oyster lovers. Seating is outdoors, valet parking is available and reservations are necessary.

We stayed in site 144. It has a nice concrete patio, fire pit, wood bench and table. Lots of stuff for the kids to do. Bounce pillow, big playground, huge pool, etc. lots of improvements being made in the park. The park is unique because you can either stay in a heavily wooded area or in more open paved spots. If you can, try to stay in an end spot. They are huge. (by KOA standards) We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed here several times over the past 6 years of full-time RVing. This visit we found they have converted a lower area dedicated to tent camping to a very nice RV section. We had space 99, with a nice concrete patio with furniture, beautiful landscaping, gravel site. These sites had W/E (50A) and a honey wagon comes around every day from 0800-1000 hrs. and empties your tanks, whether you are there or not. This has always been a nice family vacation getaway type park with tons of activities for the kids, central location to wine country or San Francisco, and at $65 per night the value beats all those east coast snow-birding "RV resorts" at $100+ per night, hands down. We stayed here to entertain our grandchildren, a 6 y.o. and a 2 y.o. and it was a great time. The owner has taken good care of this KOA park. This is a really nice KOA. There's hundreds of sites and they're building even more but I didn't feel overly cramped. Typical KOA space..tight. Internet was decent for surfing but don't expect to stream. Cell service was great here. Verizon 37mb d/l. ATT 21 mb d/l and T-mobile fast enough to stream but I didn't benchmark it. This was all unboosted speeds. Cable had plenty of channels, electric was a stable 50 amps. The laundromat was the nicest I've ever seen at a park with large new double load washers and dryers. This park caters to families and there are tons of activities for kids. I don't have kids but it was fine for me off season as the kids were in school but it was still full of kids on the weekend. I would not personally stay here during the summer because I can imagine the kid situation is going to be insane. Interior roads were in good condition and easy to navigate for big rigs. There's a newer section towards the back that's much more quiet. If I were to stay here again I would request that section. The staff was very nice and all of the facilities were top notch and very clean. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Noisy neighbors after quiet hours, loud music and yelling. Called the office, nobody there. Two nights in a row this went on, loud enough that I could hear it in my camper with the windows closed and a TV and a white noise machine on. I left a couple of messages for the office personnel, but we're leaving in the morning anyway, so I guess they won't care. I will never return to this KOA. This is a Class act park. If you or your children don't have a good time here, you need to head home. I've stayed in many KOA's and this park has more activities than any I've visited before. The roads are paved and the sites are concrete. The hookups are good and the wifi and cell phone worked. We will stay here anytime we're in the area. Take the time and drive to the town of Petaluma. Out of the CG, turn left, and drive to the stop sign. (T) Turn right and drive to the traffic light. Turn right and stay on the road until you come into town. Drive around because there is a lot to see and places to eat.

Very nice, tons of activities for kids. Nice store. Great staff. They have their own bus tour of San Fransisco, $80 but worth it, very knowable driver, so much better than tring to drive into the city myself. He also gave tips and a map for wine country, redwoods and the beach. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This is the KOA that is the embodiment of KOA's national advertising. It's got something for everyone. It's a kids paradise. It's all about fun. There are large class A's and tents, and everything in between. Charming cottages and what looks like mini/lodges. It's a huge property. Even has its own petting zoo. Activities abound.

Site utilities are in great shape. The pool is huge. The WiFi actually worked really well for us, and there was no difficulty getting connected. Even with the crowds on the 4th of July weekend, check in was efficient and calm. It's also dog friendly with a large clean dog park. This is probably one of the highest occupancy KOAs. With so much going on, what makes it work so well is the extraordinary staff headed by its professional manager. Many RV parks run like a hockey team. This gentleman manages the park like a ballet. The staff goes over and above to enhance the campers experience. Most important, it is an owner-run KOA, and the owner is onsite, there to assist and keep things right. These are people that care.

Now keep in mind that this is a KOA with kids everywhere having a noisy great time, and that most sites are close to one another. It's also not inexpensive. But it's well organized and if you want the full KOA experience, this is the park to go to. We arrived without kids, but were captivated by their enjoyment. We found Petaluma to be an absolutely charming town, and we were close enough to San Francisco. They have organized tours of the city. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Mature trees give a lot of shade but caution when backing or pulling into your site. This park is large, but terraced along a hillside. Narrow driveway into the park with steep drop off so when coming into the park you will need to 'hog' the lane. You pull up to a Stop sign, register and then get an access code/armband to enter the camp area. Sharp right or left once you enter, so careful with turning. This is a manageable park to get in and out off, but you need to be aware of what you are doing!! Lots of walkers, kids and bikes/go carts. It was probably due to the time of year we were here, but the earwigs were plentiful. Don't store anything under your rig! Also, if you have kids or dogs, there was a small 'goat head' type burr that was in bloom that got on everything. Don't walk barefoot and check your shoes.
