Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week in April while visiting locations from Two Rock to Occidental. It's the only game in town and expensive, BUT, the location is great. Made reservations well in advance - the site was on the end of a row of pull thru's and had more space than some others. Friends had to park at a lot near the office so that was a bit of a walk but OK. Gate is coded for entry into the RV spaces. Nice dog area with some agility type toys. Did not use restrooms/showers/laundry. Nice location in the country but easy access to all that Petaluma offers. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This park is on the expensive side, but maybe OK given it's proximity to San Francisco and Bay Area attractions. We were just passing through and did not use any of amenities. That contributed to the bad value rating. The park had a lot of long term residents (not implying good or bad). Our space was deemed a "premium" spot, but other that being on the perimeter of the park, it was nothing special. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Large KOA with pool, store and tons of kiddie activities on the weekend. We chose a premium site, but it was adjacent to the road where the small train would come by every 5 min on Sat with, of course, music and kiddies having fun. We were glad when that stopped! But, if we had young kids/grandkids, it would be a nice diversion. There are other play areas as well. Sun, Mon and Tues nights were quiet. Good location for us to explore Napa Valley wineries along with a day trip to San Francisco. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This was our first trip to a KOA, and we were told this was the busiest KOA in the nation. It was clearly geared to kids and they had many attractions which appealed to youngsters (swimming pool, jumping pillow, climbing wall, petting zoo, etc. were all included). They also have a large number of cabins of various sizes. Our kids enjoyed it! The proximity to wine country and San Francisco is a huge benefit. They have a large staff, who we found to be very friendly.

The sewer drain was elevated. This made dumping a challenge, as I could not get a strong gravity flow. I had to lift the drain hose to create the gravity needed to drain. Since we stayed for six nights, this became annoying. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground operates a daily San Francisco tour ($85). The guide was excellent. We visited all of the major tour spots. Highly recommended! For the beer fans, Russian River Brewing is a 15-20 minute away. It's on the bucket list for most hard core beer geeks. I thought it was overrated, and I was a bit disappointed. Lagunitas Brewing is < 2 miles from the campsite. Great beer, and not overrated. Be sure to visit them.

We had a wonderful stay. I walked the entire campground and it is very large. Well laid out. Lots of amenities. They offer daily tours into San Francisco. They claim to be the busiest KOA is the USA due to their proximity to San Francisco and Napa Valley. Easy to navigate and large staff is very helpful. Overall Rating:

Price is an average of 2 weekday nights $55) and two weekend nights ($75). If you have kids, this is a great place to stay. If you don't have kids this is a great place to stay Sunday through Thursday nights. Even on weekends it is a nice place to stay without kids though noisy. Sites are well spaced for a private campground and it was kept clean. Nice people at the front desk who handled a minor problem efficiently and politely. We would come back when in the area. Note the checkin line was 10 vehicles long on Friday at 6:00; expect some delays. Regarding some previous bad reviews about the activities, the website very clearly states check in and check out times. It also states very clearly the costs for additional people camping and day visitors. Don't complain because you didn't read the rules. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a huge park with lots of amenities for families; petting zoo, pool, playground, etc. Most of the families seemed to let their kids run free (which us older folks did in our neighborhoods). This is all great if you have kids you don't wish to have to entertain, but if you are adults who just want a place to relax...THIS IS NOT IT. Note the cost. Also, the staff did not make the rounds to make sure people quieted down, our neighbors were yelling between sites, playing music, and talking loudly until almost midnight. We loved this place. This is a great place if you have children, great if you don't but you won't use a lot of the amenities. Petting zoo, climbing wall, bounce pillow, pool, hot tub, playground, arcade, extensive store (including local wines), an outside movie by the pool every evening and a pancake breakfast on the Sunday morning we were there. They have something going every week in the summer. We took the San Francisco tour which was awesome. The tour guide does a great job and takes you places you can't go to on the big buses and has great background having grown up there. We can't say enough good about this tour. All the staff we interacted with were friendly. The only thing that could be better is warmer, sunnier weather but they can't control that. We have already recommended this place to friends who have stayed there and liked it as well and we would definitely stay again. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Be sure to have a jacket and sweater and dress in layers. When the fog comes in in the late afternoon, it gets cold until it burns off mid morning and then gets warm.

Convenient location for families looking for an escape from the Bay area (1 hour from San Francisco via 101). Clean facilities with grass/gravel RV sites which are tree covered, spacious with some privacy. The corner lots have a bench and firepit. The park is in a country area a few minutes from the freeway. A great place for a family to stay with lots of activities. Internet access is a bit slow, be prepared to bring your own device for mobile hotspot. This "kampground" is like an amusement park. There is so much to do, especially for kids. Kids where everywhere like flies, and I count my child among them. The pool is huge and very clean. The campgrounds are somewhat dry and plain - not exactly close, nor widely spaced - just middle of the road for this type of camp. I suppose it's difficult to maintain grass in California at this time. It was all brown and dusty. Our neighbors were very nice and friendly. The staff was friendly but also crazy busy. The office was a madhouse all day long. Utilities were fine - no problems. By 10pm, the campground was quiet every night. Only problem was some of the teens would walk through my campground. I would stay here again. Camping in the bay area is slim pickin's, so it's not like there is much else that is better nor cheaper - especially for a family. This is a nice KOA that serves suburbanites with families. Lots of kid friendly things here including a hay ride, petting zoo with farm animals, pool, jumping surface thing. Also we caught wafts of cow pasture coming in from time to time so beware. The Women's restroom was a wreck on the weekends when hordes of kids made messes. You had to take your own toilet paper with you. Drains in handicap shower didn't work properly. During the week, all was aok for restroom cleanliness. The drives and sites were gravel and were level. There were lots of trees. CATV worked well. WIFI worked but was slow, even when running fast. Do not remember our site number as we were there with a rally however we were located near the shower room and rec hall. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The drive to Bodega Bay is lovely as it goes through ranchland. Give yourself plenty of time as the road is winding and goes up and down very large hills.
The historic Washoe Inn is just down the road and has good food (bison burgers were yummy). Its been there since the 1850s and is a neighborhood bar & grill in atmosphere.
Henny Penny is a locally owned & operated diner right on the road to the rv park. Has very good home style food and yummy deserts.

Wonderful rv park, beautiful big trees, ample sites! Staff was more than accommodating and went out of their way to offer assistance when required. Very nice park, but cost a pretty penny, as all KOA`s do near anything tourist want to look at. Take their San Francisco tour, it`s the greatest I've ever taken. Park is very clean and the staff is great. If you want to play tourist in San Francisco, this is the place to stay. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Our rate reflects the KOA discount card plus our choice of no sewer site, but we had water, electric, cable and WiFi. It is a big park with many choices for types of sites. We took the tour into San Francisco and were very impressed. Although costly, it saved a lot of driving, tolls and parking fees plus our guide was a native and had so much great information given in an interesting manner. We saw lots and lots of San Francisco! The park is very kid friendly with many activities for the younger crowd. The park needs a better bathroom situation for the more remote sites and cabins. If that were improved, we would rate it a solid 10. We would return. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.
