Avoid this RV park if you can. Problem is, there are not many choices around San Francisco. The place was jammed with people, crowds of kids running around, it's a large park on a hillside. They come and clean your tanks every day when sewer is not available. We didn't like staying there and would avoid it when possible. Not good considering the price!! We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

They put us in spot 111. Must be for overnighters. Half the park was empty and they squeeze us into the smallest spot possible? Really! Not impressed. Goats at the petting zoo were the only perk here. We won't be back at $78 a night. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Very poorly maintained. Price too high for what is offered this time of year. RV spot gravel and dirt and not level. Had to block up on two blocks to level. The mens restroom had a towel to wipe feet on before entering. Didn't use the women's restroom. The store had a can of Campbell's soup for $2.59. (way over priced) The RV spaces were quite tight. The WIFI and Cable were good. We saw a "petting zoo" and it appeared to have a young horse or pony there. It didn't look like there was much for the horse or anyone else to do. Would not stay here again, because of the price and the maintenance. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a huge park with lots of amenities for families; petting zoo, pool, playground, etc. Most of the families seemed to let their kids run free (which us older folks did in our neighborhoods). This is all great if you have kids you don't wish to have to entertain, but if you are adults who just want a place to relax...THIS IS NOT IT. Note the cost. Also, the staff did not make the rounds to make sure people quieted down, our neighbors were yelling between sites, playing music, and talking loudly until almost midnight. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We were here over Mother's day weekend, plus 2 days after. Check in was a nightmare. RVs were stacked up on the entrance road, had to park and walk up the hill to check in. Long lines inside. You'd think they'd be prepared for this. From arrival to pulling into our site took about an hour. As someone else said, this place is dangerous for kids - tons of kids darting around on bikes and skateboards. We almost hit one child who cut in front of us. This is the parent's fault though. Too many adults drinking and talking loudly around the campfire, paying no attention at all. What a difference Sunday night! Very quiet and peaceful. I would never come here on a weekend again. Our site was very un-level. First half flat, the rest sharply sloping up. Most sites were nice and grassy, but ours was dirt and weeds. If most of the park is nice, why let multiple 50 amp pull through sites be in this condition? Cable TV also did not work. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This KOA is perfectly located for exploring San Fransisco, Bodega Bay, Dry Creek, Sonoma wine area and even Napa is doable. You could easily spend a week in the area and Petaluma is a charming town to be centered in. We were there during Mothers Day weekend and the park was completely full. There is a lot for kids to do but there is very little supervision by KOA we had kids and adults cut through our site both walking and riding a bike. Very loud at night with no quiet time and no KOA employee to be found. Driving thru the park was an adventure with bikes and very little kids cutting in front of you. We love to camp with our grandkids but this park was not safe. The park is built on a hill and the sites are not level, there was weak water pressure and hookups in an awkward location. We had the feeling the employees where over whelmed and had lost control. Only the location will bring us back. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Arrived for one night, after dark, in the driving rain. Reception was friendly and quick, but due to the poor lighting, complex layout and close quarters I had to make an extra loop to locate our site. A guide would have been very helpful. The site was a pull through but on a hillside and muddy off the pad area. In general, adequate but nothing special. The park overall was nothing special, but had a number of family oriented facilities. We would stay there again, but only as a matter of convenience when passing through. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

We were here for a week, unfortunately including Labor Day weekend. It was a madhouse; every square inch was covered with people. There were so many children on bicycles, it became a safety risk to walk the dogs. Awful! Then it cleared out and it was a quiet normal campground with tight, short, level spots. There is almost no grass, just dry dirt. There were several washers and dryers out of order in the laundry room. We had an overnight guest and they charged extra for her visit. We had someone come do some work in our RV for 1 1/2 hours and they charged us extra for that too. It is a convenient location, so I guess that is what you are paying for. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

I'm going to be as fair as I can for a campground the guy in the next site called, "The Campground from Hell."

First, the positives: The bathrooms and showers weren't gross, just old and shabby. The staff weren't rude, just not very helpful.

On a negative note, just getting into the campground can be a chore due to a narrow, 2 lane driveway that new arrivals park on to register. If you're already registered, you drive on the opposite side of the drive and hope no one is going the other way. The narrow, tight sites had mixed full hookup, partial hookups, and tents in the same area. The guy in a tent site across from us ran his LOUD, ancient generator for most of the day and evening. Dog owners, per usual, let their dogs do their business on others' sites rather than the provided the dog run. The interior roads are narrow, tight and not well marked. Many units were rentals with first time or, at best, once per year campers totally oblivious to common campground etiquette. People regularly cut through our site. This is where grandparents take grandkids and allow them to wreak havoc, load them up with sugar and buy them a puppy before returning them to their parents as revenge. The WiFi was too anemic and throttled to be of any use. There were flies everywhere, probably from the cows next door. The dogs at the house next to the campground barked, howled and were out of control.

To be perfectly fair, kids between 6 to 10 love this place because everything is geared toward them. As a retirees with no grandkids, we would never stay here again. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Facilities are nice. RV sites are beautiful and spacious with some privacy. We stayed in a corner lot, so we had a bench and firepit. The park is well off the freeway (little noise). Many trees, so satellite reception may be a problem. A great place for a family to stay -- lots of activities. For older couples or overnight stays, though, the park is over-priced and noisy -- can't recommend.

For the size of the crowd, the park was understaffed, so employees were overwhelmed (and as a result, under-caring). Responses to complaints were well-rehearsed. For example, when we checked in, we were told in advance not to bother complaining about the internet. Instead we were given a number to call (TengoInternet). Of course, wifi connection did indeed turn out to be a joke, and no one answered the phone number we were given.

The sites are unpaved and not close to being level. Our auto-levelers couldn't quite adjust -- bring your blocks.

Very convenient location for families looking for an escape from the Bay area. In the summer, get ready for a crowd. High prices. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

It is, of course, a stretch to include "San Francisco" in the name of this campground, when Fishermen's Wharf is 40 miles south through heavy traffic. (On the other hand, the San Francisco 49ers play in Levi's Stadium, which is a 50 miles distant from that same wharf, so there's that.) Those 40 miles, however, do not mean that the Petaluma KOA cannot get away with charging $67 a night for a standard pull-through.

I get that RV parks in greater metropolitan areas can command premium prices and, while I don't like it, I can accept those prices if they result in a premium experience. (See, e.g. San Diego Metro KOA in Chula Vista, CA.) In this KOA, those prices do not. The park is built on a hillside and the spaces are not terraced. Many are on a slopes steep enough to be beyond the capability of standard hydraulic levelers. The landscaping is a bit neglected, with weeds in the grassy areas. The "dog park" is ridiculously small. All in all, it is just not a premium place. Reinvestment of some of those premium fees in the infrastructure could make this campground a nicer place to stay.

On the plus side, It does have a very nice children's playground with lots of equipment that appeared to be in good condition and the spaces are of a decent width.

There are lots of trees, so it's shady in the summer, but there are not many spaces with clear satellite signals. Wi-fi is through Tengo and worked well. Be prepared for interrogation about your dog's ($3 extra) genetic makeup.

There are no good RV experiences in the San Francisco Bay Area, home to 7 of the 10 most expensive housing markets in the country. The few parks that exist tend to cram you in for exorbitant prices. The Petaluma KOA is more than a parking lot and a bit less expensive than parks closer in. As an overnight, it could be worse. As a base to explore San Francisco, however, it comes at the cost of an hour or more stuck in traffic. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Golden Gate Transit offers bus service between Petaluma and various stops in San Francisco. Once in the City, it's very easy to get around on SF Muni and BART for reasonable prices. Public transportation, then, is a better, albeit slower, way to get to and explore San Francisco. The campground also offers in-season van tours of the City.

We were in the area on a spring break trip to go to Lagunitas brewery. The brewery is much better than this place. If you are into camping in close quarters with hundreds of other RV's than this place is for you. Apparently it is hugely popular with the locals which I find to be a puzzling pastime but I probably just don't get it. The hook ups were oddly placed forward in our back in spot which made the sewer impossible to use. Need a longer hose I guess! We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Rate is for a nice grassy end site with some outdoor furniture near a fire ring. That said, our only complaint about paying (about double) for a nice grassy site is, a lot of dog owners in the complex brought their pets over to the grassy site to take care of their business....even though we're sitting in our lawn chairs about 10-feet away from them. We complained to the staff about this when we were here last year, so we thought maybe they had placed some signs on the grass sites reminding the dog owners to please use the designated pet areas. So, since they haven't we decided we're not coming back here anymore. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground could be lovely; it is situated close to San Francisco and the north Bay Area. We have stayed here before but this spring it was pretty much filled with "extended stay sites". It is now more like a trailer park than a destination RV resort. We will not stay here again. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This park offers all kinds of accommodations. Cabins to dry camping and everything in between. We stayed in a premium pull-thru spot, full hook-ups. This type of space provides asphalt driveway for the RV, a picnic table and fire ring in a grass area between your rig and the one next door. Most of these grassy areas are dead as was ours, this would be a pretty park if the grass was alive. Spaces are roomy, but not level. Wi-Fi is reliable, cable reception is poor and satellite service is unavailable in most spots because of the trees. Not all spaces are afforded shade by the many trees in the park, ours was one of those. It was too sunny to enjoy an evening meal outside as the spaces are oriented backwards. If we had been facing the other direction, the coach would have provided shade and evenings would have been lovely. They do have "reverse end spots" that provide good orientation to the setting sun, plus gliders and lawn chairs are provided. The park has tons of amenities, obviously oriented to the family camper, with petting zoos, pool, bocce, video game rooms, etc. Lots of kids on the weekend even though school had started. The dog park is one of the best we've seen, even includes some agility apparatus. The laundry room is good size, with nice high efficiency machines. The machines were clean, the laundry room was not. We cleaned the folding table so that we could fold our clean laundry. We would not choose to stay here again, mostly because of the "no comfortable outside area at our site". Just not our cup of tea and not maintained as well as it should be. The dog will be disappointed. Rate reflects KOA discount. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.
