Overall, a nice park, but very expensive. It is well maintained, well staffed, and has controlled access. Sites are close with tight, but manageable interior paved roads. Sites 93-102 and 113-118 are the nicest, with sites 137-166 also nice, but closer together. Our site (155) was difficult to get a 43 foot motorhome into and did not have room for our tow vehicle, but we found a parking spot nearby. A variety of amenities and activities for children, small dog park, petting zoo, pool. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lagunitas brewery close by, as is Henhouse (our favorite) and 101 North Brewing. Russian River Brewing brewpub in Santa Rosa is a good dinner option. San Francisco is about 45-60 min drive.

Because of the fires in California I had to rearrange my plans for the trip, and so went to this park at the last minute. It is a very nice park, but was quite expensive. Paid more than I normally would have. Pull through site was good, with shade from big trees. Well kept grounds, and a lot of amenities. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Our costs seems high for a KOA, but it was for eight days for one of their new premium pull thru sites that included paved patio, a large amount of furniture and daily pump out of our tanks eliminating the need for a sewer hose. These sites are some of the best we've seen for entertaining family or friends. Having said that there are, IMHO, a couple of negatives. The showers closest to the premium sites are the smallest (think telephone booth) that we've seen. They force you to undress within the restroom or inside the shower stall. However the showers located behind the office are typical KOA; a shower stall and a dressing area behind a door. Second, there is a six person headcount limit for each site regardless of age. We were told if we had above six visitors, we would have to rent a tent site even if they weren't camping. For the daily rate we paid the headcount limit should have been waived. As other reviewers have said this is a family friendly KOA with all the amenities geared toward keeping kids occupied and happy. The resort is convenient to Hwy 101 and a short drive to San Francisco and the wine country. The staff were helpful and friendly. WiFi was OK, cable was offered, but we used our satellite system. Laundry was adequate. We would camp here again, but would look at other parks for similar amenities for large adult entertaining. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Hog Island Oyster Co about 30 mins away on Highway 1 is excellent for lunch. They serve their own oysters and offer additional items for non-oyster lovers. Seating is outdoors, valet parking is available and reservations are necessary.

We stayed in site 144. It has a nice concrete patio, fire pit, wood bench and table. Lots of stuff for the kids to do. Bounce pillow, big playground, huge pool, etc. lots of improvements being made in the park. The park is unique because you can either stay in a heavily wooded area or in more open paved spots. If you can, try to stay in an end spot. They are huge. (by KOA standards) We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week in April while visiting locations from Two Rock to Occidental. It's the only game in town and expensive, BUT, the location is great. Made reservations well in advance - the site was on the end of a row of pull thru's and had more space than some others. Friends had to park at a lot near the office so that was a bit of a walk but OK. Gate is coded for entry into the RV spaces. Nice dog area with some agility type toys. Did not use restrooms/showers/laundry. Nice location in the country but easy access to all that Petaluma offers. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We usually love coming here, but this time we reserved a full hookup with cable. When we got there we were given a choice of cable or sewer. They did offer us consierge sewer cleanout, which consisted of draining only water out of the tanks. Took them about 5 minutes max. We were stuck out by the cabins and even though they are re-landscaping, we had nothing but mud and very little gravel. Lots of mud. Just not the park we are used to. Prices just keep going up. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is on the expensive side, but maybe OK given it's proximity to San Francisco and Bay Area attractions. We were just passing through and did not use any of amenities. That contributed to the bad value rating. The park had a lot of long term residents (not implying good or bad). Our space was deemed a "premium" spot, but other that being on the perimeter of the park, it was nothing special. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a really nice KOA. There's hundreds of sites and they're building even more but I didn't feel overly cramped. Typical KOA space..tight. Internet was decent for surfing but don't expect to stream. Cell service was great here. Verizon 37mb d/l. ATT 21 mb d/l and T-mobile fast enough to stream but I didn't benchmark it. This was all unboosted speeds. Cable had plenty of channels, electric was a stable 50 amps. The laundromat was the nicest I've ever seen at a park with large new double load washers and dryers. This park caters to families and there are tons of activities for kids. I don't have kids but it was fine for me off season as the kids were in school but it was still full of kids on the weekend. I would not personally stay here during the summer because I can imagine the kid situation is going to be insane. Interior roads were in good condition and easy to navigate for big rigs. There's a newer section towards the back that's much more quiet. If I were to stay here again I would request that section. The staff was very nice and all of the facilities were top notch and very clean. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This was our first trip to a KOA, and we were told this was the busiest KOA in the nation. It was clearly geared to kids and they had many attractions which appealed to youngsters (swimming pool, jumping pillow, climbing wall, petting zoo, etc. were all included). They also have a large number of cabins of various sizes. Our kids enjoyed it! The proximity to wine country and San Francisco is a huge benefit. They have a large staff, who we found to be very friendly.

The sewer drain was elevated. This made dumping a challenge, as I could not get a strong gravity flow. I had to lift the drain hose to create the gravity needed to drain. Since we stayed for six nights, this became annoying. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground operates a daily San Francisco tour ($85). The guide was excellent. We visited all of the major tour spots. Highly recommended! For the beer fans, Russian River Brewing is a 15-20 minute away. It's on the bucket list for most hard core beer geeks. I thought it was overrated, and I was a bit disappointed. Lagunitas Brewing is < 2 miles from the campsite. Great beer, and not overrated. Be sure to visit them.

As said in many reviews, this is a huge park - I was told it is the largest KOA in the country. Perhaps it is. Extremely busy. There are children everywhere, and people milling about everywhere. However, we did notice that at quite time, it was. Our site ( #173) was right across from the rec center, where entertainment was held almost nightly. Not an ideal quiet site. No satellite in this site, either. As stated before, the sites are not level. We were not paying attention to this as much as we should have, and we ended up dropping our 5th wheel on the truck as we unhooked, because our rig rolled back, and we had not chalked the rig wheels. Our fault, but a level site would have helped - they run slightly uphill.... There is a brand new part of the park that we wish we had known about, with large pull through sites with patios, in a very quiet part of the park. If we ever stay here again, we will pay the extra $$ and stay there. The laundry facilities have the best looking machines I have seen in any park for a long time. The tour of San Francisco that is offered through the park is excellent! Well worth the $$. So informative and entertaining! And the people at the front desk are very helpful answering questions about getting into the city, and things to do. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Proximity to San Francisco is the draw of this park. An hour gets you to the bay, if traffic is not bad. We took a ferry right to a Giants game, and the public bus that picked up about a mile from the park and took us right down to Pier 33 for an Alcatraz tour (book these way in advance!) . Pick your site from their website map, and pay the fee to reserve it for yourself - away from the cabins and the rec tent, if you want some quiet.

We stayed at this KOA for a few days while seeing the San Francisco area. Like most campgrounds in this area it is on the expensive side. Our site 180 reasonably level. But saw a lot of people that had to board up. Verizon and T-Mobile had good signal. Camp has Wifi, but found it unusable with few people in camp. They do have sat friendly sites, but the park also has cable. Most sites have some semblance of grass. FHU good elect. and water. Sewer need 10' extension.

There is a pool and a petting zoo. The park caters to families so there is some noise and children. They have two laundries, but the once closest to use had most of the washers out of service. The camp has a play area for kids, and game room. No off leash dog park but there was enough grass to keep rover happy. It is best to unhook your toad when checking in. Park layout a bit confusing. It is a good campground to see the city and the wine country. We had site 180. Satellite friendly. If you want to reserve a certain site it is $20.00 extra. Not a bad park, but felt it could use a bit of maintenance. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Price is an average of 2 weekday nights $55) and two weekend nights ($75). If you have kids, this is a great place to stay. If you don't have kids this is a great place to stay Sunday through Thursday nights. Even on weekends it is a nice place to stay without kids though noisy. Sites are well spaced for a private campground and it was kept clean. Nice people at the front desk who handled a minor problem efficiently and politely. We would come back when in the area. Note the checkin line was 10 vehicles long on Friday at 6:00; expect some delays. Regarding some previous bad reviews about the activities, the website very clearly states check in and check out times. It also states very clearly the costs for additional people camping and day visitors. Don't complain because you didn't read the rules. So definitely believe the negatives of this park. On the weekends, it's a complete madhouse. The park caters to families with young kids. And yes, the first time you see Thursday roll around you will be in bewildered awe how ridiculously busy it is. A ton of in and out traffic. The sites are also extremely hit-or-miss. Some are level, some aren't. Some have access to satellite signal, others don't. That said, the area itself is lovely. The sites, if you get a nice site, is really functional. There are lots of trees (nice for privacy, bad for satellite). It is big rig friendly, although there are some tight turns. Slow and steady will get you in and out. On non-weekends, it's a great park. On the weekends, just prepare, know it will be bad and figure out things to do in town far away from the madhouse. We stayed in sites 177 (no sat), 178 (sat) and 240 (we didn't have it, then we did once we put the jacks out). Site 240 was completely unlevel and for the first time actually had to put blocks out (we have air leveling as well as jacks in our class A). That said, after the shock of the romper room that starts on Thursday nights, we found ourselves enjoying it here. Quick note: if you want an end spot (and these are the much better spots because they have a usable firepit and a swing), call and pay $20 to reserve that spot. They don't advertise this on the website. Requesting it won't get it. The firepits on non-end spots are pretty unusable because you're practically in your neighbor's window. Sites are tight and we had to park our tow vehicle elsewhere in order to also park in an area to access satellite. The interior roads were confusing. Are they one-way? No one seemed to know. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Huge park and very busy. Mostly locals, so tons of kids on weekends, but still busy in week. Rates much more expensive on weekends. Actually too many kids on banana bikes, some with no helmets or flags. Tricky driving with them all over the place. Many amenities, but mostly kid oriented. San Fran trip did not have enough takers so had to book in and drive to city. Found park hard to drive around. Need a few EXIT signs. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.
