This is a great little park near Hwy 101 and right on Avenue of the Giants. This is epic California coastal Redwood country. The only thing that would make this park better is a fenced dog area. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Do not miss Griffo's Brewery at Shelter Cove. It's not typical pub fare. It's about an hour and 15 minutes from the park, but worth it for the beer, food, and views of the Lost Coast.

A smaller newer park that meets the travelers needs. A good laundry facility but only two sets of machines. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a conveniently located RV park for sight-seeing in the redwoods. Although we didn't use the facilities they do appear to be clean and well-maintained. Check-in was easy and the staff very friendly and helpful. We were fortunate to arrive when the blackberries were ripe and plentiful and easy to pick right around the perimeter of the park! I wish I'd done a Google maps satellite view before our stay; I was hoping for a site IN the redwoods. This park has been completely cleared of native trees and now has few small fruit trees between spaces...not much in the way of shade. The interior roads and sites are asphalt. We were in site #39, a pull-through, HOWEVER, there was an box/panel (electric?) between our site and the one next to us which didn't allow us to "pull through" to get out as it was too close and our 37' trailer would have hit it. Almost any other site would have been OK for us to actually pull through although I did see one or two big rigs leave with their toad unattached to later connect in a bigger area. I rated it 9 because of tight turns for bigger rigs and no shade. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Let me preface this review by saying I don't give many 10 Excellent ratings since I rely heavily on reviews when selecting a campground and want the real scoop. This RV Park is perfectly situated to explore the redwoods on the Avenue of the Ancients, visit the towns up and down Hwy 101, and even drive out to the Lost Coast. Our site was a 70 foot paved pull through with a generous grassy area between the adjacent sites. The roads in and out of the campground were wide and easy to navigate. One thing, pulling into the campground from the south caused us to be pointing in the wrong direction with our tow, so we disconnected in front of the office and had plenty of room to turn our 45' MH around to enter the campground. The connections were well situated and worked fine. Our site was open to the sky so we got satellite reception. There's a very nice gift shop and small store with a good selection of wine, beer, and most important, ice cream. My only nit pick was the WiFi. It worked fine, but it was limited. You were given 1 1GB coupon per day, which goes fast. You could purchase more, but it was expensive; $5 per GB. Since there is no cell service in the campground it would be nice if the WiFi was free and unlimited. Not for streaming of course. Anyway, I highly recommend this campground. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Victorian town of Ferndale and the mercantile store there. We ate at the pizza restaurant that had a few local brews on tap and surprisingly good pizza. Black raspberries were in season and plentiful along the borders of the campground.

This is a no-frills quiet park on the Avenue of the Giants. There is NO cell phone coverage except as provided by the park in a ten-foot circle under the community picnic tables' roof. We did use our personal WeBoost Cell tower booster and directed the antenna in the same direction as the campground's booster antenna (around 294 degrees magnetic) and we picked up the same low power cell repeater that they used, but were unable to get the Redcrest tower. However, although the repeater was sometimes finicky, we usually were able to stream video. If you really need Verizon, I would recommend staying 2 miles south at the Redcrest Resort (the cell tower is right above the resort). Wifi was decent, although you had to pay for it. There were no TV stations found when we turned on the rabbit ears. The staff were very friendly, and the area is beautiful. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Small, quiet park with a beautiful setting. When you enter park there is a very nice gift shop and a very friendly staff. Outside there is a huge cut redwood tree that we climbed into and took pictures. There is also a path you can walk that takes you into all these huge redwoods, one that had fallen over had clover growing all over it. So beautiful! They also had flower boxes that had gorgeous flowers, all different colors. Near our site they had an old, green logging truck where the back of it was made out of redwood. It was so cool. We would definitely stay again. The WiFi was not good, our daughter and son in law walked out to the little garage shed type place and sat at a little table in order to use it. They have a cellular booster there and up at the gift shop office. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great location for exploring the redwoods. Sites were easy to get into and reasonably spaced. My water hookup had a problem but they fixed it immediately. Biggest problem was lack of connectivity for cell or internet. Satellite worked fine. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice, quiet rv park among the big trees, but I agree that the connectivity is a big problem. I was told I could use my internet voucher to use my phone to make calls, but I followed the instructions and could not. This is a big problem. I was able to use the 1/2 gig data voucher for my laptop, but not having a cell phone is a real handicap these days. No verizon at all. On positive note, very pleasant checkin and everything worked well. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Our reservation check-in at the large gift shop, was no problem. We stayed for 6 days on site 44. The park is well maintained, and the facilities were clean. Parking onto our pull-thru site and access was good. Dish satellite was easily obtainable. Great location for exploring the Avenue of the Giants. The only drawback is connectivity, there is no AT&T nor Verizon service to the campsites. They claimed to have a Verizon cellular booster in a covered pavilion and at the gift shop, however, it did not function for either of our Verizon hotspots (7730L & 8800) we notified them and the seemed mystified about the entire system. They gave us 7ea 1gb vouchers for access to an outside managed wireless ISP. More data can be bought at $5 a gig from the ISP. Not a great situation, if you need to make and receive phone calls etc... FYI there is a hardwired phone for emergencies in the Laundry Room. It appears to be one of the nicest campgrounds in the area. We'd stay again if we wanted to revisit the area. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay while exploring the Redwoods. While the park is in the redwoods there are no redwoods in the park, just kinda an open space in the forest. We arrived on opening day of the park, so they we just getting started for the season. There had been record rainfall in the park so they had not had time to mow, but they apologized for it. No OTA TV channels or cable. T Mobile is dead here also. The WiFi, not owned or run by the park, is a ripoff. We were given 7 passes good for 1Gb each, they lasted a very short time with us not streaming, just doing our normal activity. We purchased 12 additional Gigs by the weeks end, at $5 each. These had a very short life too! We lived on 10Gb a month plan at home for years with no problem. Just remember you are here for the Redwoods, not to play on the internet. In our defense it rained non stop for 7 days so were kind of shut in. Entrance to park is a little hard to find coming from the north, it's out of site from the main road, just turn into the Immortal Tree Parking lot and you are there. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Get out and hike the Redwoods, there is nothing like it anywhere in the USA! Nearest real grocery store is in Fortuna, 25 miles away. Check out the Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka. Make the drive over to Shelter Cove and have a beer with the locals at Mario's. DON'T try this in your RV, can't be done!! Eat at the Avenue Cafe in Miranda, it's great. Walk the main street of Ferndale, lots to see.

Owners/employees of this park are all really good people. Helpful, considerate, friendly . . . The kind of folks you want running an RV Park. The gift store is really nice. Like many places in CA they've had water restrictions and had to stop watering their patches of lawn between sites, but it doesn't look bad and is still enough turf so that it's not total mud, when it rains. We've been searching for an RV park that we really like in the Humboldt Redwoods SP area that doesn't have full time renters. We've finally found it! We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park for overnight or a few days to explore the redwood forests nearby. Quiet location, paved roads and some grass between sites. Wifi worked ok. No cell service. Some sites not satellite friendly, ask for one that is if that is important. Roads easy to navigate. Sites are a bit narrow but still enough space to have a table and chairs out. This is a nice place about a days drive from the SF Bay area so we always stop here when making the trip to or from the bay area from the north. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Our third stay through the years, really like this park. Location right on the Avenue of the Giants but park area has clear sky so easy to use roof DirecTV satellite. Verizon signal booster at pavilion, no ATT service at all. Wifi is free for some data and worked well although it went down many evenings late. Reasonable fee in my opinion if you wanted to use more. Loleta Cheese Factory! When you drive up your first thought will be to keep going but stop! Wonderful variety of grilled cheese sandwiches...we went twice! There cheese is very good and we used their smoked cheddar in some mac and cheese...awesome! Ferndale was a fun stop and the beach about six miles west had some great waves.
