Cost reflects weekly rate; we stayed here for 2 weeks. They have a $1/day extra charge for a dog. This is a nice little campground with very easy access to and from I-5. While it is close to the interstate, at mid-campground area where we were, the noise was not bad at all. The CG is on a bit of a hillside, so the sites are arranged in a terrace fashion, which worked well, and they have a reasonable amount of spacing. Most of the sites had a tree or 2 to provide shade. The CG is clean and well-maintained, with a number of what appear to be seasonal folks (or perhaps those who lost homes in recent wildfires, sadly) in sites around the edges. We had plenty of room to maneuver on the paved roads, and the concrete site pad was level. Space for parking your truck at site is limited. Their cable TV worked well, and Verizon signal was good. Only used their Wifi a couple times, but we were able to good and it was serviceable, but not fast. Nice laundry facility. While they have a fenced dog park and a bocce court, both looked pretty awful and not very usable...the dog park is basically all gravel and crushed stone. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Shasta-Trinity-Whiskeytown National Recreation Areas nearby, but be advised that Whiskeytown was 97% burned in the huge 2018 Carr wildfire and will be years to recover. Nice hiking trails in Shasta Lake area, but poison oak is *everywhere* so learn what it looks like. Check out the architecturally famous Sundial Bridge in Redding, a short way south on I-5. Sacramento River Trail is great paved bike trail between Shasta Dam and town of Redding.

Sanctuary. That's the word that comes to mind when describing this park. Tucked into the Cascade foothills with a verdant canopy of home grown trees, when parked in the shade after a long day on the road, it feels safe and secure. We stayed 2 nights and our rent reflects a Good Sam discount, plus $1/day for our dog. The CG appears well-maintained, clean and cared for. Site spacing is better than many and internal roads are paved. Each site has a picnic table and a swatch of healthy green grass. Office is exceedingly friendly and helpful. Despite the site pad being concrete, do not assume it is completely level; site 34 was not. Despite having cable TV, do not assume all stations are sharp; some are, some are not. Wi-Fi worked well and traffic noise was minimal. Utilities are center-located, in good condition and reliable. The park is well lit at night. The CG recycles and trash containers are never far away. Long-term residents are clean, neat and quiet. We enjoyed our short stay and would happily book a long-term visit using this park as a hub to take in the surrounding beauty. Nearby Redding offers and excellent opportunity to "stock-up" for an extended stay further north in the mountains. All the popular big-box stores, fuel and food are just minutes away. Just off I-5, access to the north is quick and easy. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites are tiered and some are on the small size. We had to struggle to park our truck on the site and get it off the road. Tight fit! Close to I-5 but not too noisy. Easy on and off interstate. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Just north of Redding (couple miles), right on 5 next to the shasta lake info/fire fighter base camp. Great services, verizon works well. Local tv channels ok. Wifi was decent but we stream with our cell. Great location for Redding, Whiskeytown, Shasta Lake, Lassen and Burney falls. Very nice office staff, small but clean and convenient pool with spa. Park like setting with trees and character. They did a good job with paving, utilities and making it a nice experience. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Great location with all the stuff to do in the area. Carr fire started while we were hiking in Whiskeytown national monument. There are great but long and difficult hikes to see many waterfalls. The lake is good for swimming and boating. Shasta Lake is bigger and more boating, the caves are convenient but commercial. Lassen Nat Monument wasn't worth the drive. Burney falls is a must. Easy 1 mile loop. Sundial in Redding and good farmers markets but expensive.

We really loved this RV park, it had 120 terraced sites that were roomy with lovely bushes and trees separating each site. The WiFi and Cable (which even had HBO) were terrific. All the utilities were placed properly, each site also had a table, the sites were concrete. The owners took immaculate care of the park and were very helpful with our side trips we took. A must do is Lassen Volcanic National Park, Shasta Lake and Dam, And Whiskey Town. Redding has everything you would need in a very compact area. You can't go wrong with this park. Price reflects a weekly discount. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a really nice park just north of Redding. It is an easy on/off right on Hwy 99, but there isn't much traffic noise, even in the front of the park. The owner keeps the park very clean, and was very nice. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Shasta Lake Caverns is just up the road. Just a warning, though, that there LOTS of stairs to climb if you want to see all of it. The free Shasta Dam tour was awesome. Also, the Shasta Lake Visitor Center has lots of great information about the lake and Dam. We also drove up to Lassen Volcanic NP from here.

Very nice well kept park. Excellent customer service. Our neighbor failed to clean up after their dog and I stepped in it. The manager came right out and cleaned up the poop and talked to the neighbor. Had a major power failure while it was 115 outside and the staff tried everything they could to help. Our site was a little steep getting in so we had to take off our bike rack before parking. Other than that the site was long enough, level, and plenty of space for us. Definitely would stay again. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hi John.
Thank you for your nice review.
The power outage was due to the large PGE transformer failure. A new one was needed which delayed the repair while one was found. Now we have a new larger transformer that should be good for many years.
We thank you for your understanding and patience
Safe travels,

We stayed over Christmas. This park has very easy access to Hwy. (I-5) The park was clean and well maintained. The restrooms were very clean. There does appear to be long term resident's but all the site's were clean and orderly. Nice pool and spa area. Laundry room was very clean. The only down side was noise from the hwy. that we just are not use to. We will stay at this park again. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a very attractive CG. Built on a hillside, sites are on steppes with nice lawn/landscaping. Take exit 687 off I-5, east side of the highway, right on Holiday Drive to the CG. Good signage. Holiday drive is asphalt in poor condition. Friendly front office staff. Credit cards accepted. No tent camping or yurts but has cabins. CG roads are wide, asphalt in good condition. There are many, tall trees but no overhead or access obstacles. Easy turns. FHU-20/30/50. Transient sites are concrete surface, level with utilities at mid-rig, sewer connection at ground level. No patio, nice picnic tables. Many trees challenge satellite views. Fires not permitted. Good water pressure and taste. Stocked office store. Restrooms/showers are "90's" but very clean and maintained (score "A"). Propane at $2.35+tax/gallon. Laundry. Small but clean and safe playground (Lil' Tykes equipment). Cable TV. Free Wi-Fi with adequate bandwidth. Verizon coverage at "1-bar"; Jetpack 4G coverage at "3-bars". Unheated, big pool. Hot spa. No traffic noise from I-5. Bug Report: no notable insect issues in October. Recycle bins for everything except glass. We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive about 9 miles south to Redding for everything from restaurants to banks to hardware to shops. Diesel near CG is $3/gallon but only slightly cheaper in Redding ($2.799 at Chevron). RV service and parts stores all over the place. Camping World about 5-ish miles south on I-5 from Redding. I recommend Casa Ramos Mexican on Hilltop Road.

Very neat, quiet, clean, manicured park with plenty of elbow room. Well maintained sites with concrete level pads with plenty of room for slides and awnings. Shade trees well trimmed to not interfere with your coach. Friendly and inviting office staff. No park is perfect, but this one is pretty darn close. Pay no mind to the reviews of road noise from I-5. I'm a light sleeper and I didn't use ear plugs! We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We originally had reservations up in Lake Shasta and the day we were leaving I went into my google maps to map our trip and noticed some reviews of the place in the Google maps app. I clicked on them and it took me to Yelp. I was horrified to find that the place in Shasta had terrible reviews. I had only booked our trip 3 months ago, yet in the last 2 weeks since the 4th of July there were 5 bad reviews, bringing down the overall rating. This was the first week the hubs and I had off in 4 years. We decided we couldn't take a chance. We immediately found Mountain Gate here on RV Park Reviews. I called and spoke to a very nice man who got us in for 5 nights!! Mountain Gate RV Resort is super friendly and super clean. There's a gated dog park with gravel. The spots where we are, are off set so we don't see neighbors on either side. We don't use the bathrooms/showers, but I hear they're clean and the parks overall cleanliness likely reflects that. The pool is quaint and very clean. They have coffee and muffins in the office in the morning. Needless to say, the hubs and I had to drive to our original destination to see what all the horror was about. It was horrible, staying at Mountain Gate RV Resort was the best decision we made. We're only halfway into our trip and we love the peacefulness. A little highway noise, but not bad at all. This park is wonderful! We camped at Mountain Gate RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I have stayed here many times. We have 42 FW with 5 slides! This is by far the best Park near Redding. Safe, clean, friendly. I stay nation wide and this Park beats them all.
