Great location. Sleep listening to the surf. Beach is not kept groomed, by law it must remain natural and what washes in, seaweed etc, must stay until it is washed out. Unusual to have sewer hookups this close to the water. Lots of surfers, had a large group for several days while we were there, but the park is surprisingly quite and peaceful. AMTRAK ran just up above the sites, but not really noticeable after awhile. Staff friendly and helpful. Security patrols on a regular basics. Have to meet non-military guests at the gate, but Marines are very professional, polite and helpful. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

The park has suffered damage to due to storms. Surfers Paradise and the Beach spots were closed for camping. We camped on the Bluff and it was wonderful. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

As usual we really enjoyed our stay. We camped a few feet from the Ocean/Beach. Lots of Pelicans and other sea birds. Staff friendly and very professional. Spaces adequate for our 4 slide 39 foot fiver. Restrooms clean and well maintained, but with the cooler weather this year a little cold. Sat. dish plenty of clearance. Limited WI FI, only works near the office. Trains run behind the sites and can be a little noisy, but didn't keep us awake. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The amenities at San Onofre Beach are adequate and well placed allowing all campers to enjoy the beach setting. What was very disappointing is the apparent lack of efficient management, state of repair of laundry/restroom facilities, and overall cleanliness of the campground. Several times prior to arriving I called reservations asking if any full service sites had become available as my reservation was for water and electric only. On all occasions I was told that no full service sites were available. Upon arrival, the assigned site was too small for my RV and I was reassigned a full service site which I remained at throughout my planned stay. I also noted that several full service sites were always available during my stay. Unfortunately the entire campground is littered, unkempt, with several washers/dryers and toilets out of service. It seems that no one is caring for the amenities, landscaping, and it seems that rules are not being enforced. San Onofre Beach could be a real gem conveniently located to many local restaurants, activities, and beaches but considering the noted deficiencies and depressing condition, it rates only two stars at best. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is the only RV park on the California coast where you can park at the high tide line with a completely unrestricted view of the ocean. For this reason alone the place is unbeatable. Noisy, crowded during the summer, especially on weekends. Traffic noise from nearby interstate, from trains and aircraft. Third world toilets constantly clog up, no shower curtains. But the beach is wonderful. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

By far our favorite military campground. The only things we would like to see them improve would be the addition of sewer hookups in some of the bluff sites and WiFi service. Can get very crowded in the summer, which is expected given the kids being out of school and family vacations. Our favorite time of year to visit is over the holidays. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

As usual we really enjoyed staying in this park. We watched the Pelicans put on quite a show on the ocean, which is right in front of our site. Wi-Fi was only available if you parked very near the office. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Road construction made the entrance a little confusing, but after a day or so had it down pat. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every day. Trains make it a bit noisy, but was tolerable for us. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

An amazing place! If the sites were any closer to the ocean they'd be underwater. Fabulous views, literally on the beach or for some sites, 30 feet off the beach. Winter special rate of $30 a night for full hookups. A little noisy from the freeway and trains, but overall a wonderful place to stay. Not much to do nearby, but with the ocean as your front yard, who cares? Very highly recommended. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: April, 2012 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of a few nice long stretches of few natural beaches left on the coast of California, where you can camp right on the ocean. Camping and RV aside, San Onofre is all about surfing. Not much good for casual swimming as there are rip tides and can be strong currents, but for surfers it is heaven. Long boards rule here and if you aren't a surfer but can appreciate the beautiful natural beauty here: you are in luck. Stroll the beach and you are likely to meet surfing legends who flock here for the great long rides. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2011 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed here before, and every year the rate goes up but the facilities stay the same. Still, based on location alone, it's an exceptional place to stay - where else can you get full hookups on the beach? As always, the office staff was friendly and professional, and even called us to tell us they could change us to a better site. The sites in the old, and better section, get progressively sloped as the numbers ascend, so try to get a site below number six to get one that's level. The coastal commuter train runs behind the sites, but noise is only a slight distraction as nights are quiet. Verizon cell and 3G Aircard worked well, and there are clear views of DirecTV and Dish satellites. There is no cable of Wi-Fi in the park. Convenient to I-5, there is an adequate commissary nearby, and a gas station with diesel that is well below the off-base sites. No weekly or monthly rate, so it can be pricey for a lengthy stay. Overall, well worth the price; we'll stay here again. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: March, 2011 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week and loved it. Its half way between Disneyland and San Diego, so it was a great location for all the places we wanted to go on our vacation. Being so close to the beach was fabulous. The playgrounds and Park Recreation areas were great. The streets were quiet, so my children could ride their bikes. The bathrooms were a little old and rundown, but they kept them clean. They have a small laundry facility. It was very convenient to have the exchange and commissary close by for anything we needed. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We camped here right on the ocean. You have to be active military or retired military to camp here. Beautiful crescent beach. We could see the ocean, dolphins, surfers from inside our coach. We had great weather in March. If you can get in I recommend staying at this park. Sites are back in. I had no problems with our 42' motor home here. A bit of noise with some parting on Sat night. Not bad. Very nice children play area. We camped at San Onofre Beach (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
