Reserved a week here because of the great reviews, wish I hadn’t. We’ve traveled from east coast to west and this is NOT one of the best campgrounds we’ve stayed in. Not the worst, but definitely ranks lower on our list. Website does not give accurate representation of campsites, it tells you how LONG they are, but not how WIDE. We arrived to find out 35’ motorhome fit in the space that is listed as 45’ long on the website, but our compact care barely fit behind it. Our picnic table and fire ring are in an open area along with the tables and rings of our neighbors, so we seem to be group camping with strangers. Trabuco Canyon Road is only a few feet away and there is plenty of road noise. There are used charcoal briquettes still in the grill which WE will have to clean out when we use it, and a few q-tips and a couple of broken plastic Easter eggs laying around that I had to pick up before the dog did. If the camp hosts are supposed to clean the sites when a party leaves, they aren’t doing a great job. Quiet hours are 10pm - 7am, but generator hours are 8pm - 8am ... kids were outside yelling at each other at 6:30 am but we can’t turn on our generator and warm up our 48 degree RV until 8:00? Also, every campground we have been to across the country treats a motorhome with a towed vehicle as one unit. Not here, we had to pay an additional $5 per night for the car. I wonder if they charge an additional $5 for the pickup truck that tows the camper? If so, y’all will be spending $25 on a campsite with no amenities and kids yelling at 6:30 in the morning. We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We chose this park because it was closest to relatives, and we really weren't disappointed. It's hard to beat the rate - $15 per night for seniors, $20 for others. Our site had a water spigot. No electricity anywhere in the park, including the bathrooms, which are open to the outside air and VERY cold in the winter - but the water is hot, push-button style showers. You can run the generator from 8 am to 8 pm. Several sites are designated for RVs only, which is nice when you're big like we are. There were only six spots we would fit in, and even though they're all pull-thrus, a few of them we would have had to back out of (or into) because the opposite road was too narrow to make the turn. The spot I chose online wound up being perfect for us. Roads getting in are tight, especially at the ranger station gates and that first turn, but we managed. One thing to note - the entire park is in the Holy fire debris flow area, and could be evacuated if heavy rains are predicted. We were grateful that they were on top of this, and were evacuated after our second night. Our money was refunded, and they rescheduled us for a few extra nights on the other end, which was nice. We found another place to stay for the nine nights the campground wound up being closed, but that extended our total stay in the area by five days, which we put to good use. If it were drier we could have taken advantage of the many hiking paths in the area, but it was so wet that most of them were closed while we were there. There is a dump station, and we were able to back into it from the main road to use it on the way out - the loop configuration was just too tight and small for us to get around it. We would definitely come back here again! We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Trabuco General store is within walking distance via paths inside the park. Their Taco Tuesday is advertised as being excellent (go early or be disappointed), but the truck was out of service, so no tacos for us. :-( There's a steakhouse next door that gets really good reviews that we didn't get to try this time. In Aliso Viejo, try Opah Seafood Grill. Amazing! Truly the best seafood meal in a long, long time. The Trabuco Canyon Post Office is right across the street from the campground.

This is a nice campground. Staff at the main gate were friendly and helpful. Very few campers during the week, however this place is always full on the weekends. The vast majority of campers here are tents, popups, etc. The site we had barely fit our 30' trailer, and there was no shot whatsoever of keeping the truck in the spot as well. This place was very busy during the weekend, and really an RV felt out of place to me, in the sea of tents. Fresh water was available near the site, and the dump station was well placed. We had a major ant problem as our stay concluded, and fought ants in the trailer for many days afterwards. Take measures to (hopefully) prevent ants when staying here! I did like the setting of this park, and would return. It was great to "get out of the city" and find this park. Very peaceful place. We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rose Canyon Cantina is an excellent place to eat, giant tree out back in eating area at night. Italian lights glimmer everywhere.

Rate reflects senior (60+) discount. Nice assortment of sites, some very large pull through. Threaded water spigots on most but not all sites. Many sites have trees and shade. I picked one which is partially shaded and kept solar panels in the sun. Clean basic restrooms with showers. Good Verizon signal. Was not crowded mid week, but full on weekends. Some traffic noise from nearby road, but quiet at night. Natural setting, very pretty. Summer days can get into the 90s. We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This campground is a nice little find in the hustle and bustle of the O.C. We had reserved a 40' spot (#10), but when we were supposed to move into it we thought it looked small and measured - 31'. A park ranger and the rest of the crew got it all taken care of and put us in #7 and #8, and life is good. We spent 2 nights in #27 which fit our 41' rig and Jeep Wrangler. There are several HUGE pull-throughs, occupied by small travel trailers while we were here. Trabuco Canyon road has traffic during the day, but we didn't notice any noise at all at night. Well paved roads, and lots of trails for walking. We saw plenty of horses, deer, rabbits, squirrels, some acorn woodpeckers, and other animals - a plus since we're in civilization here. Good voice and data signal on Sprint, Verizon, and TMobile, and full speed 4G on our Verizon aircard. The downsides: You will hear generators from some of the other RVs, and people here have no concept of campsite etiquette and will walk right through your campsite without a second thought. We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is a well-run county park. Sites are spacious, especially the ones that back up to Trabuco Creek. We will definitely be returning to this campground. Great biking and hiking trails, too. We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great campground considering it is a regional park. There is a large assortment of differing types of sites available, including a limited number (8) of pull-through sites up to 118'. Great for families with kids as there is lots of room to roam. There is also a nature center which is currently open only on weekends, which again is very nice for a regional park. Lots of hiking, biking and horsetrails. There are mountain lions, so be careful! Last sighting was 01/09/10! We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

We parked next to a restroom that was closed for the season, so they put in a portable toilet. A group of people were next to our site and there were more than 20 people staying there and it was not a group area. The staff is fine and they pick up trash often. The main road is close by so you hear traffic all of the time. I will not be back. We camped at O'Neill Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.
