Nice campground with spacious sites although not very private. Easy to get around, we had a pull thru with full hookups. Convenient to things to do in Denver as it is in the middle of the southern part of the City. If you are doing a lot of things north of Denver, not so convenient. Have to agree with a comment by a previous reviewer; was not aware that we were going to have to pay an additional $10 per day park fee to get in and out of the park. Not a big deal but was not aware. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Colorado State Park so reservations made thru Reserve America. Very large park. Spaces very spread out, no one close to our space. Many pull thru spaces. Spaces 85 and 86 are at the far end of the park so much room. Well maintained sites that are raked and cleaned between campers. Very helpful staff. NO ONE TOLD US YOU ALSO HAD TO PAY A FEE FOR USING A COLORADO PARK. Cost would have been $70 for the week or $83 for a yearly pass, in addition to the space cost. Fairly good WiFi. Good cell strength, We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is our first stay in this park in March, which is historically the snowiest month in Denver. We've stayed here several other times at different times of the year, and have enjoyed each stay for different reasons. This time we hunkered down for the Bomb Cyclone storm and managed quite well. The staff was plowing the Abilene loop multiple times as the snow was falling, and after getting rid of the pile they dumped in front of our driveway it was easy to get out and around. We saw owls, a bald eagle, and deer - including an albino deer, never seen one of those before! The Abilene loop is the only one open in the winter, but it has water bibs that allow it whereas the other loops don't. Since it's full 100% of the time the parks system should consider opening/modifying at least one other loop. With the new reservation system they don't charge a reservation fee any longer, which is nice since the whole campground is now reservation only. If you show up you have to either get online or call the phone number to GET a reservation before you can stay. However, they also raised the daily camping rate to $41 per night. That's up from $30 per night (in person) in Sept/Oct 2016. That seems a bit excessive, over 30% in 3 years. The rangers were great, patrolling frequently. They even woke us up at 8 in the morning to tell us the storm was coming (sorry guys, but as full-timers the weather is our #1 concern at ALL times!). Thoughtful, though, as their warning was the wind might cause power outages. And if there's no power, there might be no water. Like good scouts, we're always prepared, and while the power flickered several times during the storm event it never went out long enough to confuse the appliances. Winter is an experience, another notch on our belt. We'll be back because it used to be our home and we have friends and family in the area. We truly like this park. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Get an annual pass if you're planning on 8 or more nights. Not only is it worth it (as in saving you money), but you're helping fund a great park system. Read our other reviews for area tips. It's Denver, Google it! :-)

Very nice park with great views and wildlife. We saw deer and heard coyotes or wolves and owls. During winter, there is just one loop open so pretty sparse, but the spaces are nicely spread out. They have heated water faucet which is nice for this time of year to lower freezing issues. They don't really keep the streets clear of ice, but with the weather, it is manageable. Lots of activity in the park with cyclists and joggers. Service is fine, we didn't really see anyone. There was one day a camper had damaged the water so we did not have water supply as they worked on it. By the end of the day, we were back to having water. We only learned this by calling office, there was no notice given to campers like a left message on phone or note on windshield. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 3 nights while passing through on our way to Breckenridge for skiing. This was a great location for shopping for ski gear. There was a lot of snow at the campground which was so pretty, and only the Abilene loop was open in January. It was great to have full hookups at a state park. The sites in the Abilene loop are spacious. The camp hosts were so friendly and we enjoyed talking with them. We would definitely stay here again if in the Denver area. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all worked well. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I could stay here for months. This 4,000 acre park is an oasis in Denver. Beautiful trees and green spaces make this one of the best parks we have ever stayed at. We had a big pull through site with full hookups and 50 amp power. They have WiFi which is hit or miss, but the fact that a state park has WiFi tells you how much effort they have put into the campground area of this park. If you can get a reservation here, stay as long as you can and make great memories by the campfire with your family. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We started our full-timing journey in the Denver area, and this park was a God-send at that time, and it is still one of our favorites. It's in the middle of a major metropolitan area, and as such it is very popular with people who LIVE here. As with other popular places, you need to plan ahead, or take what you can get. We stayed in four different sites during the 13 nights we were here, and had to get in line to wait for a cancellation for the weekend and fortunately got one. Weekends are booked almost as soon as they're available to be reserved, especially in the popular summer and fall months. Bathrooms and showers are clean. The park is huge and has miles of paved bike trails that are also great for walking. The beaches were closed as we got there too late in the season for warm enough weather for the water, but you can still go boating. The park is huge, and requires funds to maintain. It's an old COE park and is well-laid-out for larger vehicles, and also has a section for tenters. Buy an annual pass, it's good for a year's admission to ALL of the Colorado state parks, and it's well worth the money to support these gems. We've visited several CO parks and haven't been disappointed yet. They do a great job maintaining spaces for Coloradans to enjoy their beautiful state, and really show off to visitors what all the fuss is about. We'll be back. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Just south of the Parker Rd. entrance and across the street is a great Mexican restaurant, Casa Vallarta, that has daily happy hour specials and free tacos in the bar. Try their mole, you won't be disappointed. OTA TV gets all the Denver stations, you'll have over 60 to choose from with a decent antenna.

This is a great Colorado State Park just outside of Denver. Really wide open spaces, trails to walk or ride a bike, and lots of well maintained grassy areas. We stayed in a cement paved back in site with a gravel patio, picnic table and fire pit. The grass was a bit dry and weedy, but with Colorado rain and snow I am sure that will change quickly. There was not a lot of trees or shrubs between sites, but the next rig was probably 100' away, so you never felt crowded. Our T-Mobile air card worked well here, and the space we had was easy to get satellite reception. We paid $30 a night for a FHU 50 amp site, but there is also a $9 a day entrance fee. We had a guest visit that is from Colorado, so we used his car and park pass to avoid any extra fees. . The park restrooms are basic, but clean and in good condition and are handicapped accessible. All in all this was a great location to stay and have easy access to Denver and Bronco stadium or the Colorado Rockies, if that is your desire. We were close to Denver and went out to a family dinner one night. This is a great place to stay to have easy access to most of Denver. I would stay here again. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed one night 9/7 on our way from KC to Grand Lake CO. This place is fantastic. If we were full timers & had time on our side we would have stayed longer. Thank goodness my wife decided to pull up directions on google while I was following my dated GPS in the coach once we left I70. Not hard to find but it was rush hour, my GPS lacked detail, and there were a few "turns" I wouldn't have caught. Anyway, GC is awesome, sites are huge and spaced out. all utilities worked as expected. We were lucky (made reservation weeks ahead) and landed in the FHU Buffalo loop. We had deer, many deer, walking right through our site. This is an excellent place to stay and only maybe 10 minutes off of I70. We will likely stay here again in the future. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Great SP/Campground. Stayed here 5 days in a 43' motorhome. Book early. Easy to get to from I-25. Friendly check-in. State park fees ($9/day) are on top of camping fees so you will need to get a day pass for non-Colorado residents. If your stay is longer you can purchase a Colorado Annual Pass for $72 good for one year. During our August visit the daily fee is waived for Veterans. The CG is Big Rig friendly- easy to navigate. Our site #28 was spotless, level concrete pad longer than our rig. FHU PT with a fire ring, picnic table and patio in Coyote loop. Utilities worked well. Great OTA, ATT cell service and WIFI. No cable. The loop is a mix of PT and back-in sites with shade to no shade. The interior of the loop is an open, well maintained grass field with scattered shade trees. The closest RV is 100'+ away unless across the street - lots of open space with a lot of wildlife. Every morning/evening you see deer feeding among the tree line or in the open grass field. We would wake up to deer outside our coach most mornings. Biking, hiking trails, fishing, boating and swim beach. The CG host for our loop shared great info about how to get around town - what to see, do and best way to get there. We did not use the restrooms/bath laundry but they appear to be clean. We will stay here again when visiting Denver. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely do the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Also Breckeridge and numerous mining towns. Walmart is a few miles south on Parker and Aurora Mall is a few miles north on 225.

Getting to the mountains is a challenge with Denver traffic so plan to spend a full day. We did several day trips to the mountains. Much easier to get to Coors Field and Mile High Stadium.

When I was ready to reserve, there were no sites available online, but an ADA site was obtained by calling the reservation center. At check-in we overheard a comment that they are frequently fully reserved 6 months in advance. During August each year, all Veterans and active duty military, regardless of state of residence, may obtain a vehicle pass for August that eliminates the $8 daily entrance fee. Thank you Colorado! The 1 pm check-in time is enforced if park is near-full. Park has a laundry. Our site was a pull-thru with a level, concrete pad and had FHUs (30 and 50 amp). The site was sunny which was fine as we wanted to use the satellite, although many sites were shaded or partially shaded. Sites were cleaned nicely after each check-out. Interior roads were paved and easy to maneuver. Room for big rigs in this park. Lots of bicyclists and fishermen. The park gets heavy day-use as it is within the Denver metro area. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We are at Cherry Creek State Park right now. Staying four nights to see kids, grandkids, neices and nephews before heading up in the mountains for a week. Cool park in the middle of the city. Other than occasional traffic noise you wouldn't know you were in a metropolitan area. Facilities are excellent. There is a maintenance guy that cleans every site after someone leaves. Fire pit was cleaned and the gravel patio area raked prior to our arrival. Our site has a level concrete pad. Lots of green space between sites. As others have lamented, there is a $9 per day charge for park access on top of camping fee. What really galled me though was having to put quarters in the machine to take a shower. :~) We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Made reservations back in January for our two week stay here. As everyone says, it's paved and clean, a beautiful park and so close to Denver. Our site had a slight view of the mountains and great sunsets. We also had cottonwood trees providing shade. About half the sites have shade trees and the others do not. We could not use satellite but many sites could. Lots of OTA stations. Nice laundry room and machines were $1.50 each. Wifi actually worked well our entire stay. Verizon signal was LTE but sure seemed slow at times. Buffalo and Abilene Loops are closest to the swim beach. As you look at the campground map the center of the loops are all large grassy areas with shade trees which is very nice. Sites are spacious. Great place to walk dogs. Very large off-leash park too. We would return. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Price is for full hookups and reflects the $9.00/day day-use fee that they charge in addition to what is paid in advance online. This park is a true gem in the middle of a very busy, crowded, noisy city. The sites are well spaced with concrete pads. Our site was level side-to-side, but had quite a slope towards the front. Very nice picnic tables and fire rings. Laundry facilities are an unexpected find in a state park, $3.00 washed and dried a load, change machines were also appreciated. The only negative is that extra $9.00 per day charge for the day use facilities that we didn't use. It makes me wonder why they don't charge the day use people $30.00 for the camping facilities that they don't use too. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Very spacious and nice park. Lots of room between sites. Stayed in both pull through and back-in and no problems with either. Nice trails and lake on site. Only issue is with reservations. If you want to stay more than 2 days, you will have to reserve way in advance or you will be moving around sites. Seems like with today's technology, they should have a better reservation system.
