Nice campground, very clean. Lot spacing places your neighbor nearby. Gravel pads featuring a fire ring and picnic table. Deer wonder through all day long. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Our site was pull-thru, close and parallel to the B-loop road. It was on an incline so front-to-back leveling took some effort. We were shaded by beautiful Gambel oak, and the area was frequented by mule deer. Water is trucked in. The only tap in the area was a water fountain with spigot for filling water bottles. There is no wifi, and our Verizon hotspot couldn't find a connection But it's a national park; who needs wifi? We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Great view of the canyon. Rangers were extremely helpful. We pulled in late and two rangers helped us find a spot and get situated. Sites are dispersed among a scrubby forested area. I wouldn't recommend taking any huge rigs here, branches stick out over the road. Overall a great stay at a very cool park. Be sure to check out the ranger talks at the nearby amphitheater. The canyon is breathtaking. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in the loop with electric; very good 50 amp. There is no dump station and no where in the park to fill rv tanks nor is it allowed. Pit toilets and a water spigot in each of the three campgrounds. Our spot was very spacious and plenty long for a 38 foot wheel, truck and jeep. The road is narrow so there is very little swing room. The picnic area was shady and private. Many of the pull thrus are along the road and many of the back ins are for the smallest of rv's. Tent campers have many good choices. Lots of deer in the campground snacking on the bush and snoozing in the shade. The evening ranger programs were very good and well attended. It is a beautiful park and well worth a visit. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This was a nice campground. The only problem was I called to see if they had water available to fill our fresh water tank and they said yes. When we got there, they only had a drinking fountain so we had to go 4 days using bottled water. There were deer everywhere and it was very quiet and peaceful. Be very bear aware in this park. They had a "problem bear" alert while we were there, and although our neighbors told us the bear showed up twice the night before we got there, we never saw him. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

The Black Canyon is so beautiful. Take the Portal Road down and do all the scenic overlooks on the Rim Road. It's well worth it!!

Overall Rating:

Sites well-separated from each other by dense scrub oak with sparse overhead cover. Stayed in Elec-only site on loop B (50A hookups) power stable at ~122V. Water hydrants are located near entrance to each loop--water is trucked in, so filling of RV tanks from hydrants is not permitted--good idea to come in with tanks full. Sites gravel and fairly level. Pit toilets were clean and well-maintained. Excellent proximity to the vistas in the national park. No Verizon cell in the campground--good 4G signal starting at about mile marker 5 a few miles outside the park entrance. No firewood in the park--the store at the turnoff from Hwy 50 to the park does sell wood. Strict and rigidly enforced rules on leaving any kind of food container or cooking gear outside while site is not attended (bears). We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

A quick overnight stop that allowed us to vehicle tour the south rim the next day. Fee station was closed and ranger at Visitor Center was just closing as we arrived but had us come in and gave us the info we needed. As with most state, regional and national facilities; sites well spaced apart from your neighbors. Only one wood block under one corner to get completely level - probably could've done without it (I know you folks with levelers laugh every time I write this part of the review!) Electrical steady per my surge meter. Nice and quiet in the evening. Awoke to deer grazing just across from our site. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Only A and B loop open before Memorial Dayish.

Sites level, but cramped.

Loop A no services, vault toilets. B loop has electric hookups.

Some larger sites. We enjoyed being here, very quiet. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Built for visual privacy from your neighbors to the sides, the back- in sites now have trails to the other loops reducing privacy. Additional sites have been added as pull-through-up sites along each loop's road. Some sites had cell phone connection, we did not. Good Verizon connection was available in spots on the South Rim Road. We will return. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Rate reflects senior pass. No reservations after Labor Day, just first come-first served, and the electric sites seemed to fill by 6 pm midweek, mid-September. The campground and the park exceeded my expectations and I regret not staying another day. The vault toilets were OK, and the site had a living area a couple of steps below, for picnic table and grill. The ranger offered a two mile full moon hike plus other programs in the morning at the visitor center. Strong antenna TV signal, but we got no AT&T cellular. I would return. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

This is a national park campground, so it's more rustic. Restrooms are vault dry toilets, with no running water. They were clean, but could have used more attention. There are no showers. The campsites have good separation between them and the campground is in a scrub oak grove so you have vegetation curtails between the campsites. There is a water source in each of the three loops in the campground. We had to use extra levelers to get our trailer level. Nightly rate was with a Senior Access card discount. Even with the detractors, we would stay there again We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a National Park, but not one of the better sites. We knew in advance that there was no water at the sites, but were surprised when we arrived with no water and no provision in the park to fill an RV water tank. Also, no dump station, so we only stayed one of the three nights we had reserved. We had a pull through site which was OK, but were lucky as many of the pull through were nothing more than a "pull over"... If you have slides, you will most likely have too little width. This campground was a disappointment, due to the water situation. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Just be sure to bring your own water (and leveling system!), and you're good to go. Lovely location, with a nice trail to the Visitor Center from the campground that is also dog-friendly. (All the overlooks and 2 of the trails are--a rarity for National Parks!) Lots of elbow room and privacy. Great place to stay, rather than make the drive in/out and stay in town. Did not see any wildlife (except scat), but there were tons of warnings about bear proofing, so heads up on that front. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

The campsites are spread out and nice. There is plenty of wild life to see. The canyon is a must see. Take the time to drive the rim trail and walk around. The drive down the canyon to the dam was great and gives a much different view from within the canyon. It may not be a road for those not comfortable driving on narrow and twisty roads. Drop offs are big. Unfortunately we arrived while it was raining and fog hid the canyon until the afternoon the next day. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.
