We stayed in the south rim campground at Black Canyon NP. Loop B has electric. There is water but it is trucked in so it is limited. The facilities were clean. We stayed in site B12. Sites are separated nicely from others. Site B13 power didn't work so check your power before unhooking your trailer. You can get cell coverage only at high places in the park. We will stay again. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Site was a pull-off shoulder on the B loop but wide enough to keep slideouts off the road. Excellent NP campground, quiet, forested with low oaks and many deer wandering through or even just laying in the grass in the campsites. Bathrooms are pit toilets, water is a single communal spigot near the loop entrance, good 50A electrical hookup. No WIFI or Verizon cell service in the campground. Long uphill pull to get to the park, but worthwhile if visiting the park multiple days. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Deer can be aggressive and there are special dog rules during the summer... see park website. If you are fit and enjoy a challenge, get a wilderness permit for a scramble down to the Gunnison river from the south rim. Else drive down a steep but good road to East Portal for river access. Montrose is 25 minutes from the park and is a large town will all the usual big box and franchise stores. Camp Robber is a good American restaurant, with killer nachos.

This is a great park. We stayed in Loop B which offers electric hook-up. The camp sites are clean and ours was easy to back in to. The park is gorgeous. We would plan an extra night next time. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Spend a day exploring the South Rim. If you can add an extra day, the North Rim is supposed to be worth the extra day.

We made a reservation in the B loop for our 36ft travel trailer. This site required us to park parallel to the road on the gravel shoulder of the road. Because the road was somewhat narrow and the shoulder was narrow it was difficult for us to maneuver and we were unable to open the slide out completely. We had 50 amp service which worked well. There were no other utilities. No dump station in park. There was no cell or Wi-Fi service. We were able to pick up local channels with antenna. Despite all of these inconvenient things, this is a beautiful park and well worth the problems of the campsite. Numerous deer wandered through our campsite and each site was separated from its neighbor by oak and other shrubs. The night sky was glorious and allowed viewing of millions of stars and the Milky Way. There are two trails which allow leashed dogs, a rarity in a National Park. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Stop at all of the overlooks on the south rim. The boat tours sponsored by the park service was well worth the 25 mile drive out of the main part of the park. Be aware of that if you wish to visit this with your vehicle and trailer that the parking is over 3/4 mile regular parking and trailhead. The hike to the boat launches strenuous but well worth the effort.

Our site was pull-thru, close and parallel to the B-loop road. It was on an incline so front-to-back leveling took some effort. We were shaded by beautiful Gambel oak, and the area was frequented by mule deer. Water is trucked in. The only tap in the area was a water fountain with spigot for filling water bottles. There is no wifi, and our Verizon hotspot couldn't find a connection But it's a national park; who needs wifi? We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Great view of the canyon. Rangers were extremely helpful. We pulled in late and two rangers helped us find a spot and get situated. Sites are dispersed among a scrubby forested area. I wouldn't recommend taking any huge rigs here, branches stick out over the road. Overall a great stay at a very cool park. Be sure to check out the ranger talks at the nearby amphitheater. The canyon is breathtaking. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Sites well-separated from each other by dense scrub oak with sparse overhead cover. Stayed in Elec-only site on loop B (50A hookups) power stable at ~122V. Water hydrants are located near entrance to each loop--water is trucked in, so filling of RV tanks from hydrants is not permitted--good idea to come in with tanks full. Sites gravel and fairly level. Pit toilets were clean and well-maintained. Excellent proximity to the vistas in the national park. No Verizon cell in the campground--good 4G signal starting at about mile marker 5 a few miles outside the park entrance. No firewood in the park--the store at the turnoff from Hwy 50 to the park does sell wood. Strict and rigidly enforced rules on leaving any kind of food container or cooking gear outside while site is not attended (bears). We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We arrived later in the evening and were greeted by the camp host. He was very polite and told us to be careful of the people returning from the ranger talk about stars. Our site was back-in, with electric, picnic table, and fire ring. Privacy and site spacing were good, and it was a pleasant location. We would be happy to camp there again. The park is beautiful and well worth a visit. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We camped in loop B site 13. Completely private, surrounded by Oak trees. Site was nearly level, power for air conditioner was welcome. Back-in site with nice table and some shade. Very clean. Drive to park is steep. This is our newest National Park, visitors center very nice, drive to overlooks are wonderful. Not many people as yet. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Nice campground and interesting visitors center with a 20 minute film about the canyon. Really beautiful canyon with lots of look outs with breathtaking views. There are 3 loops with loop B having 50 amp service. Noticed a number of sites with tent pads and quite a few pull through sites with the rest being back ins. Site B-21 can easily take a 40 foot motor home with a medium size tow vehicle. We were able to put our awning out too. Some sites were very private with Gamble Oaks and other bushes surrounding the sites. We found that some of the back in sites were narrow making it hard to open all of your slides and awning. FILL UP your water tanks before coming, the water they provide is for drinking only. There is no dump station at the campground but they do have a list of places where you can dump your tanks. The list is posted at the fee station. We would stay here again, it was very quiet and relaxing. Camping fees are $18.00 or $12.00 with the Golden Age Pass. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.
