Stayed a week to tour the area. Ok for a place to sleep at night. Near a trail. Beautiful View of Mt Sopris. Everything is as advertised but the WiFi was very weak and most times unusable. We were parked near the entrance and the signal got better the closer you got to the bathrooms. No cable tv but you can get local CBS and Fox with antenna. The bathrooms are clean but the showers were on demand hot water which made you constantly need to depress the water valve for flow. The park is very near the quant downtown are of Carbondale. The public transit station is within a 10minute walk and there is a shuttle between Glenwood Springs and Aspen with stops along the way. Eliminates fining parking especially in Aspen. While there drive the West Elk Loop as well as the drive to Leadville over Independence Pass. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Truck Camper.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

While we were welcomed by very friendly camp hosts who were knowledgeable about the area, the park itself left a lot to be desired. We stayed here in 37' 5th wheel. Our site was wide and spacious with one shade tree. The entire parking and walking surface throughout the park is filled with large, sharp, fill rocks; making it very difficult to ride a bicycle out of, and painful for my dogs to walk on.

The Rio Grande bicycle trail is adjacent to the park and down the hill is the boat ramp. The dust from the parking lot coated the mountain air. There are no actual trails inside of the park or laundry facilities. The water pressure was deplorable and it got very old listening to semi trucks come down the hill using their jake brakes at all hours of the night and day. We left a week early and will not return. I can see using this park as a one night stop over but other than that, I would move down the road to something else. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Rio Grand Bike Trial is fabulous. Old town Carbondale was a charmer and in the summer months, the farmers market is off of Main Street and seventh every Wednesday.

Alegria Pasta was very tasty as was Big Belly Burgers: organically and locally grown beef. Aspen is 30 miles away fro Gateway RV.

Hike the famed Maroon Bells if not anything else!! It's a bucket list item for hikers!!

The campsites are close together but not ridiculously close. Gravel sites. We opted for the WE site, but there are FHU occupied by big rigs. Well maintained shower (although you have to hit the water button 20 times until it heats up). The max length for WE sites is 24 ft, and we are 24ft, there is a cliff behind these sites, so if you are longer and not careful.... We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Just the basics at this Rv Park, but perfect for our very large class A MH. Easy in and out, large site, great view. Sites are level gravel pull thru. Good satellite access and Verizon coverage. They only offer 30 amp. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Basic park, 17 sites all gravel level, not all sites are full hook up.others have water and electric. What makes this park is the convenience of walking to town, fishing, biking trails from campsite. Hosts are exceptionally nice. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a nice City owned park. It is all gravel with some nice trees for privacy and a bit of shade. The hosts are helpful and welcoming. The sites are very spacious as each one is actually a double site - one for the coach and one next door for the tow. What a nice surprise. The view is fantastic with a mountain right in front for enjoyment. The river is steps away with a nice, paved walking/biking trail that runs for 40 miles. There are no frills you have to pay for but not use which pleased us minimalist travelers - but even with that $35 was a tad high. Satellite, ATT and Verizon all good. Beware there is no 50 amp service and it was hot the day we stayed. Our one air conditioner had a very hard time keeping just the living area cool. As a previous poster mentioned this would be a higher rated place if it were not for the very busy, very loud hwy 82 above and behind the park. Big rig friendly for our 42' towing a pickup truck but had to disconnect as the sites are not long enough. But the spaciousness and feeling of a bit pf privacy makes up for that. We would stay again in spite of the highway noise and as long as the temperature was moderate. The online reservation system worked great. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a lovely little park that is extremely well run by 2 sets of camp hosts. They are very attentive and will help in any way they can. The sites allow for a private outdoor setting with your own picnic area. The park would be a 9 if it did not have the road noise. The highway proximity does make for a good bit of that. Being on the bike path and so close to the river make up for the traffic. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Carbondale is a lovely little town with a spectacular farmer's market on Wednesdays. We love riding bikes and walking on the bike path along the river.

The City of Carbondale has recently taken over what used to be called the Mount Sopris RV Park. Sewer connections are difficult to reach. Lots of traffic noise from Highway 133 and Highway 82. Access to park is difficult and not marked on Highway 133. There is only a green RV sign with an arrow. I'm sure this park will improve with time. Good cell coverage. Convenient location. We camped at Gateway River RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
