This park is high in the Rockies near Central City, CO. Our site was a pull in and had a view of the valley. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

We loved our stay at Central City KOA.We were in site number eight which had a few out across the mountains which was gorgeous especially at sunset! My only complaint would be lack of grass for dogs but it's CO. Bathrooms were spacious and clean! Everyone who worked the main desk was super! Knowledgeable and helpful even helping us with our dogs when we went to Denver for the fast. Would definitely recommend! We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

The park surface is all rough gravel from mine tailings. It is very dusty. The only sites with a good view are 1-10 on the upper level. One hour after I checked in, park management refused to accept a package that I have ordered without even asking me or advising in any advertising that they had this policy. I said that I wish to leave after 5 days instead of the 10 that was reserved. The owner refused to even consider refunding a portion of the charge that I had billed to my credit card one hour before. He was extremely arrogant. Eventually I left after three days and filed a dispute with the credit card company. DO NOT STAY HERE. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Good clean well maintained park and facilities. The wifi was good as was the digital cable. No OTA TV to speak of. No trees so our Diret TV satellite signal was good as was our Verizon 4G. The wind blew for the 2 days and nights we were there to the point that we pulled our slide out in to keep from rocking our trailer all night. We were in the upper level and the views are great up there. The site was level and the utilities were great. **Note - the park is at 9,000 feet and they have a note of warning about altitude sickness on their check-in desk and a little in their brochure that you get when you check in. *BUT they don't have anything about it online when you are making a reservation. It is no joke - we had a reservation for 5 nights - cut it short because we were both sick from the altitude - headaches, nausea, shortness of breath. They should have that warning prominently in information online when you make a reservation so people know what they are getting into prior to reserving here. We knew the first morning that we were sick and gave them the appropriate 48 hour notice that we would have to cancel 3 of our nights. We expected to have to pay for at least one of the cancelled nights. We only stayed the 2nd night because we had to go into Denver to get a replacement part for our Propane system. When I gave them the advanced notice that we would be leaving early the folks at the desk said that the manager would have to process the credit and he would be in after 6:30. I went to the office after 6:30 and they said to come back after 7:30. He hadn't shown up. Next morning I went in - no manager no credit. Went back when we were leaving- no manager, no credit. Saw him outside so I went to talk with him, he was rude and said he would get to it when he could and he might give us the credit. He said KOA's refund policy didn't apply to him. We did get the credit a few days later. Altitude aside - will not stay here again because of his rudeness. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Travel Trailer.

One of the most beautiful, scenic campsites we have ever experienced. We stayed at site #5. It was located on top of a hill overlooking the town of Central City. If you want to enjoy this breathtaking view, try to get any of the sites #1-10. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Let me start with I fully understand supply vs. demand, but 45.00+ tax just to park in overflow lot with no amenities at all is gouging. This is the most expensive KOA we've stayed in. They are making improvements for sure, but there is almost nothing for kids ( one small playground piece). I highly recommend to not go here if just passing thru Denver area, since it is well over 15 miles of hills each way. Many 8% grades to get there, or going back. We stayed in overflow one night, site 9 one night, then a pull thru another night ( that's what happens when you don't make reservations!) Sites 1-10 are definitely the best IMO. The pull thrus are fine, and plenty big for any rig. Customer service greatly depended on who was working, with one person being outright rude to customers. We will not be staying here again next time through. Not enough draw for us. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

Central City and Blackhawk really are NOTHING other than gambling towns. Almost nothing else to do there. 1casini let's new players est buffet free with 30 minutes on one machine ( penny slots!) Great buffet. Take the drive to Estes Park, beautiful drive. Please remember you are at 8000+. It gets to you!

Nice playground. A game area right outside the office entrance. A huge Connect 4 game, a large size Jenga game, a large checker set, a bean bag toss game. Good place to stop overnight. 2 hot tubs, good cable, decent wifi. Had a pancake breakfast there. It was pretty good. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stay at many KOA parks around the country and this one is above average as far as facilities go but overall we were disappointed with our stay. First the things they could not control, the wind is insistent, gusts 15 to 25 almost every day of our two week stay. That very much affected outdoor activities and very hard to walk or ride bikes because there is nothing but rocks here. Secondly the things they could control, the office staff were the most rude and uncaring that we have had the mispleasure of encountering in all our travels and I feel the park was way overpriced for the remote location. In summary, we have no intention of ever returning and would not recommend this park. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

FYI---This rv park is located 40 miles west UP in the mountains at the 9,000 ft elevation. As soon as you check in you are told to watch for possible symptoms of high altitude sickness. Although we did not have any this is something that should be noted in their information. Our pad was large & level concrete with clean site surrounded with crushed rock. There are 2 tiers to this park - we stayed in the lower one but would recommend the higher level for nicer views. Restroom, showers & laundry clean and modern. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Great location to tour historical Central City and Black Hawk casinos. The drive to Denver was beautiful along 70. Be mindful of the weather before you go to this park - we did get some snow in May.

As I read many of the other reviews of this park, I feel a little foolish writing my review. I'm not sure that we were staying at the same park.

First, the positives. The staff was very friendly and efficient and we were escorted to our spot upon arrival. The problem with the road has been addressed and there is now an easier entrance.

Then, the negatives. The park is basically a gravel parking lot with concrete pads installed. There are a few trees that have been planted in the gravel that will be nice once they mature. The spaces are very narrow. Our neighbor had two trucks parked and although they were fully in their space, the truck bumper was about 3 feet from the bench of our picnic table. Too close for me. The 5th wheel across the parking lot had 2 trucks and a small car parked in their space. Pretty tight! The new entrance is not marked as such. Although we were on the right road, the place where we needed to enter looked like an exit. The upper loop where we were parked offered no view whatsoever, except of other rigs. We have been on the road for 4 months and this is the most we have paid for a spot, yet, this is the most unpleasant park that we have been in during this time. We will look for a different park next time we are through this area. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here on two different sites. The experience was night and day as a result. The pros of this park are the location, the camp store and some of the staff. The cons are major ones - is it all sharp, dusty gravel and some very clueless staff.

I thought we were prepared for the mountain climb with the reviews here - but what they really don't tell you is that the climb starts about 10 miles east of the exit. Once you get to the park there isn't really a climb. Ignore gps! There are brand new roads so once you get off the exit, follow the KOA signs. The first site was amazing - right on the edge (I think it was site 3) where all you saw were mountain views and lights of Central City. It was amazing. The biggest problem was there was absolutely no grass anywhere and the gravel wasn't polished - it was very tough if you have dogs.

The camp store is huge and will most likely have anything you want. The staff who work in there are hit or miss. There are a few - namely the owner, his son and a few long-term staffers - that were excellent. There were a few who were completely clueless. For example, I observed them watching three kids throw rocks (rocks, not stones) at chipmunks and they said nothing. I finally told the kids to stop. Being a campground, I'd hope that respect for wildlife was high on the staffers' radar. Nope. These same staffers also let their dogs loose in the park - observed, mind you, but loose.

The second site was not good. No view. Still the sharp gravel, still no grass, and with the lack of view it wasn't worth staying there. Because of the dust, you couldn't really enjoy spending time outdoors without the view.

We could potentially stay here again, but it would be a stop-through if anything. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Unhook your tow vehicle about 10 miles east of the exit. It is a very steep grade. 70 is a bear with traffic but be patient and you'll get through it. Only stay in sites 1-10 if you consider staying here. Do not follow GPS - follow the KOA signs that start right off the exit (it will indicate you are 7 miles away, then .5 miles away).
