This is a stunningly beautiful campground. (The price shown reflects $41 for the site and $8 park pass per day.) We stayed at one of the sites higher up the hill, and we had gorgeous views of Colorado Springs below. The full utilities all worked well, we had a decent Verizon signal and clear shot of the sky for satellite. Our site also had a tent pad with tie down rings. Shopping and other conveniences are just a few minutes away. Seems very popular, so reserve ahead of time. Highly recommend! We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very nice SP on Cheyenne Mountain overlooking Colorado Springs and Ft. Carson. All sites require advance reservation available either online or by phone 24/7 and the full camping fee is due at that time, but does not include the daily Colorado State Park pass of $8/day which you get at the entrance gate, or at the visitor center, whichever is open when you arrive. The Camper Services office at the park is no longer in operation, but you select a site when making your reservation, so just proceed to that site. The interior roads are asphalt and the pads are concrete and long. There is a formed, gravel tent site, picnic table and fire pit at each site. The bathrooms are clean, but the showers are coin-operated, however all RV sites have full hook-ups. The views are spectacular, specially at night with the lights of the city and fort spread out before you. You always know when it's time to get up and go to bed thanks to the bugle calls from the fort! We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Ask for a site that has a clear view of Colorado Springs. This park sits much higher than the town down below. Some sites had a clear view of the town. Unfortunately, because trees had grown up around the back of our site, the only view of the city below was when you stood on the picnic table! But we LOVED staying here.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park - Colorado Springs, Colorado. This state park campground is located on the side of Cheyenne Mountain, directly across from the Army Base. Be prepared to be woke up every morning with reveille. The views at night are really awesome when all the lights come on in the valley below. The sites are full hookup with 50 amp, water and sewer. The sites are concrete pads with asphalt driveways. There are patio areas that are either a few steps up or down, depending on which side you are on. We were here for a week, and loved the campground, but weren't really impressed with the area. Beware of the inconsiderate, aggressive drivers in this area. Some of the worst that we have encountered. If in this area again, we would stay here again. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

The Omelette Parlor is about as good as it gets for breakfast in the area. Garden of the Gods is very busy, but worth the trip, and it is free.

Check-in was awkward, as no one actually checks you in. You just go to your site and set up, then return to the visitor center to buy your vehicle pass, which is not included in your camping fee. The vehicle pass instructions seem to vary, depending on who gives them to you. We were told to tape our 2' long pass to the windshield of our car, but a few days later, the female ranger asked us to move it to the RV. Only one problem: now, our car had no pass (the booth was attended only on weekends, so most days this didn't matter.) It only took an hour to get the pass the first time, now we learned we need a complimentary "tow vehicle pass" for our car, so more time was wasted. We found the shower situation to be interesting at $1 per four minutes, so one could rack up significant charges just to get clean should you not have your own facilities. Between the reservation fee, the camping fee, the vehicle pass fee, and the shower fee, we felt like this park was nickel and dimeing. All together (we didn't use their shower), it costs about $50 a day to stay there, which is reasonable compared to other parks in the area. It would just be nice if they removed some of the bureaucratic red tape, figured out how much they need per night, and charged it as a single fee. We did notice several campers pulling in after hours and leaving early the next morning. Perhaps they were camping for free? (We saw little, if any, ranger activity after dark. The daily site check seemed to be done mid-morning, and this was inconsistent.) The park claims to be sold out every night, but there were numerous spots open nightly, which makes me think there are a lot of no shows. The top notch facilities included concrete and asphalt pads, stable power, close sewer and water connections. While in Colorado Springs, we drove through several other area parks; we determined that Cheyenne Mountain is by far the best option in the market. Hitch and unhitch your car at the trail parking. The "camper services" lot can be pretty tight. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

The views in this park are amazing! We loved seeing the city lights at night and watching the thunderstorm clouds roll over us and out to the plains! You can hear Fort Carson play reveille every morning which was fun for the kids. This park is very clean, the spaces are far apart, and the sites are great! It is located in such a way this it is easy to get to all of the tourist spots (Pike’s Peak, Florissant Fossil Beds, Garden of the Gods, etc). This was our favorite place to stay so far on our trip. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

In addition to all the tourist sites mentioned above, also check out Ivy Wild school. It is an older elementary school that has been turned into a brewery, whisky bar, and coffee shop. The brewery food and beer was great and our kids loved exploring the old school.

This is a newer, beautiful park. The sites are all very large and well-spaced. The facilities are immaculate, the staff is friendly, and there are miles of trails in the park. It is the perfect spot for visiting Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, and all of the other recreational areas or city attractions and amenities. The park is situated on a hill that overlooks the city, and the twinkling lights at night are pretty. You can hear reveille played from Fort Carson across the highway from the park in the mornings. There is plenty of OATV. You will pay for all of that greatness, however, as Colorado State Parks are expensive as state parks go. There is a site price, a reservation fee if you book online, and a daily per-person fee of $8 (which you can mitigate if you get the annual pass, and you should if you plan to stay longer than a week in Colorado state parks during a year.) During our stay, there was a Bomb Cyclone (record-breaking wind gusts and freezing temps) and the rangers came around ahead of time to be sure everyone was stocked up and ready. The following day, they were out as soon as possible to sand and clear the park roads. It was great service! We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Excellent campground in all aspects. This park was built in the mid-2000s and has good roads, lots of sites with full hook-ups and is very clean and has good spacing between the campsites. They charge an extra fee for each day you enter the park so that adds to the overall cost. Some sites are in full sun. We stayed in site #12 which is on a cul-de-sac and is great. The park has good trails for short or long walks and you will see lots of wildlife. All the buildings, showers and laundries were clean and well maintained. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Make reservations online for this campground. We came during winter season so rates a little less but you still have to pay the daily use fee of $7 unless you have an annual CO state pass. The campground is beautiful and on the side of the mountain so views are great. Sites are concrete, level, some back-in and pull-through. We had full hookups on Gobbler Grove loop. There is a campstore, laundry, showers. There are trails a visitor center with gift store. We would definitely return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The only thing I didn't love was there was a $10 reservation fee (for 1 night we were staying. I'm sure it's $10 for any amount of nights) and a $7 state park fee which was good in other CO state parks. Loved it here though. We stayed in the Raptor Glenn area. So many trails to hike right by the RV. Saw a lot of deer in the area. Close to Colorado Springs and Ft Carson. At night we heard taps and reveley in the morning. Our site looked out over the city and on the mountain side was the Norad command center. I never knew anything like that existed. We would love to go back and spend more time here. The cites were very spacious and we parked parallel to the road. Beautiful!! We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.
