They charge $15 for dumping when you leave! The connections were all buggered up and hard to connect to, leaking badly! There were no trees close enough to the campsites to provide any shade..... only sagebrush, weeds, and stickers! They didn't even have water hook ups so you had to either leave or carry bucket by bucket... It had a dead man's valve so you had to stand and hold it for it to stay on!! When we stayed there, the water was very low, therefore hard to get to! We still hiked down the hill and played in the river, though it was quite a maneuver especially to try to carry chairs, inner tubes, towels etc. There was no way that we could take our little paddle boat! There was some beautiful riding for us to do on our motorcycle though! We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

There is a lot of good about this campground but some issues. Main issue is electric, the power grid is out dated and fails daily in summer. They actually tell you that you can't run your AC (on check in) or the power will go out. Problem is while you sweat it out, someone else will turn their AC on and your power is still out. So if you don't need power it's a great campground or if you don't mind paying for an electric site and not having electric. Has a dump station, but they want $15 to dump even if you have paid to camp. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

This is the second review I have made on this park but things have changed or should I say deteriorated. Don't get me wrong, I love House Creek because of it's remoteness and quiet atmosphere. There are around 50 sites and a couple of group loops but when we were there even over the 4th there were very few campers. There has been no maintenance done in the 4 years since our last visit. The roads have cracked and in some places broken up. The electricity is only 30 amp and even with the sites not even half full it would go off if you tried to use the AC. And you pay $8 per night for it! The boat ramp which is the reason most people come there was only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there are tire spikes to keep people out of the ramp area at night and week days. The forest service road leading to the CG is breaking and sliding down the bank so you have to drive around on the wrong side of the road. The dump fee is now $15 even if you paid the $32 per night fee. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

For such a nice reservoir this is a pretty under used campground. We have been a couple of years to meet friends, and always have a great time. Vault toilets. Dump station with $5 fee. The camp host got fired right before we arrived so no host, but the rangers came by often and were nice.

Electric sites power is spotty: goes out if it gets really hot and everyone is running AC. It can get hot, so if you have to have power this may not work for you. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

I'm not sure what campground the other people are talking about but we stayed there for almost 3 weeks and this is what they have. Decomposing toilets (no flush), some sites with electric (you pay $5 per night extra for them), no sites with full hookups, dump station but the fresh water was not working, fresh water available around the loops. This is a FS campground but it is run by the RMRC concessionaires. Most of the sites are very long and can accommodate large rigs but most will need a little leveling. You can reserve through "reserve.gov" or recreation.gov but it is not a very busy campground except on weekends. It is 17 miles north of Dolores then another 5 miles on a FS road (paved). There is almost NO phone service but occasionally we could get a signal for the computer and could text on the phone. We love this place with its spectacular views of McPhee Lake and easy access to the boat ramp. It is quite open with very few trees and can get quite hot in the summer but in September it is comfortable. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

BE AWARE: There are some discrepancies on the prices as far as what the website says, what ReserveAmerica says, and what you find out when you get here. There are only 4 sites with full hook-ups and you have to pay $25/night for these. There are also about 16 electric only sites. When you make a reservation through ReserveAmerica, they only collect the basic fee; be prepared to pay for other services when you get here. This is a very nice, quiet park in beautiful SW Colorado. Even on a summer weekend the park was almost empty. The host was very helpful and sells firewood and ice. A short drive down the hill is the reservoir. About 6 miles away is a convenience store where you can pick up bait and a fishing license (It's the Phillips gas station). Dolores is small and Cortez is about 12 miles away, do try to come with all you need. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

This is the new McPhee Recreation Complex, run by the USDA Forest Service (not the old House Creek campground which is on the other side of the reservoir). The sites vary in size, but some are large enough for 40' MH. Boat ramp is a short drive from the campground. Campground has nice trails with incredible views over the reservoir (500 feet below) and some Colorado peaks. Only four full hookups, 16 with electric and some with water. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful campground in the San Juan Forest near Delores and is very convenient to Mesa Verde National Park. There are only two sites with full hook ups. These rent for $25 a night. Eighteen sites have electrical hook ups and cost $20. Sites with no hook ups are $15. Golden Passport holders get $7.50 off. Reservations can be made and are recommended for the full hookups and for people who just have to have electricity. The park rarely fills so you stand a good chance of getting a site without reservations. There are flush toilets and pay showers. Each of the two loops have hosts who are very friendly and helpful. I loved this campground. We camped at McPhee/House Creek in a Travel Trailer.
