This is a great park, I love it. The Durango And Silverton Railroad runs through the park. If you don't know, it's a tourist, steam railroad and mostly runs in daylight hours, so it shouldn't wake you up. There are quite a few trees in the park and sites are medium size, not huge, but not on top of one another. I found out how nice the owners are on this trip. It was leaf season and the campground was very full. I had a problem with my truck and wasn't sure I was going to get out on time. The owner was very willing to work with me to find a spot so I could stay. As it ended up I was able to leave on time. I've stayed in this campgrounds before and always try to get in here when ever I'm in Durango. Stayed 3 nights, hope to stay again and for a much longer time! We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Travel Trailer.

Ride the train! and, watch it go through the park. They were running three trains a day to Silverton when we were there, so the trains went by six times a day.

Check in was easy. Sites are very close. I had just enough room to walk between my unit and the motorhome next door. Had just enough room to park my truck in front of unit. Had to be sideways then was almost in road. Trees are very sappy I would stay here again if I had to. Laundry room is very nice and clean and don't cost an arm and leg to use. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Fifth Wheel.

Take a trip on the million dollar highway all the way up to Ridgway, you won't be sorry. Ouray is an interesting little town with a lot of places to eat. Silverton is a neat little town also,be sure to walk around and look.

Stayed here 3 nights. Had to mail them a check for a deposit when making the reservation as they would not take a credit card over the phone. Got there and they would not take American Express so used a Visa CC. Lady at check in was in a bad mood! I have a big rig and asked for a long pull thru site. They gave me 2 back to back back in spots to pull thru. Very tight, ran over my neighbors sewer hose pulling in and had to give him a new one. Couldn't use my satellite tv, too many trees. No dog park to walk my dog. Pool was already closed. This is an old park designed for small rigs. Would not stay here again. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

This park is challenging to maneuver around in. Most sites are buddy sites. The view facing east is much better than the west. There are large trees overhanging most of the park so satellite use is limited. The sap from trees gets on everything. The main reason to stay here is the trolly stop for downtown Durango. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Durango has many dining and bar options. Hop the trolly out in front of the rv park and head downtown. Our favorites were Olde Tymers Cafe, Irish Embassy Pub, Ken & Sues, Joel's Bar, The Bookcase and Barber, Four Leaves Winery, and Steamworks Brewery.

Stayed here 4 nights, mainly to ride the train. The train comes right through the park, so pretty cool to go out and watch the train go through and wave at everyone. Pull throughs are bit short, but there is room to park your vehicle, all utilities worked great. If you need satellite tell them at check in, several large trees block the south sky. They gave us one that worked great. Would return again. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Fifth Wheel.

The park is hard to get into, sites are not very level. We parked under large trees but after leaving found tree sap all over motorhome and car. The train did run through the campground which we liked as that was what we was there for, quiet the rest of the time. Wash house was clean and everything worked great. Plenty of room to walk the dogs. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Nice park, right off the highway. Sign was a bit hard to see, if you're not looking for it, you could miss the turn. The turn itself was a sharp U turn to get off the highway to the frontage road. Staff was friendly and helpful. Site was FHU, good level site near the end of the row. Fairly easy to get into. W/E/S all worked well. Great view of the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad that goes through the site. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Travel Trailer.

The sites are tight and challenging to maneuver into. The sites are facing each other, allowing no privacy. Our sewer connection was almost in the road in back of the rv so that we could not connect until we were ready to leave then back up into the road in order to connect. Sites are short and very close. The Silverton-Durango narrow gauge steam train travels through the park to the delight of campers. Pool, laundry and restrooms were clean and well maintained. The biggest attraction for us was the trolley that stops at the entrance of the park up a steep hill every 20 minutes and for a dollar, will take you to downtown Durango. There are many trolley stops in the city that makes returning easy. The location of the park is why they can charge so much. There is no cable and wifi was poor. I probably would look for another campground. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites were close as most private parks, but enough room to have awnings out. At first I thought the parking which was done one this way, one that way was good, until I realized our picnic tables were right next to each other. Not crazy about that, no privacy. There was area to walk the dog. It was fun the see the train go by. Very close to downtown, which was great, or there is the Durango shuttle stop right outside the entrance. The wifi wasn't good, so we used our Verizon cellular, which was pretty good. Our sight, as most, was easy to level out. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Great chocolate at Animas Chocolate Company, loved our lunch at Steamworks Brew Pub, take the Silverton Durango Railway ride. 3 hours up and back, but you can take a bus back which is shorter.

This park is on a driveway downhill off the main road, but has a big sign so you know where to turn. It slopes down to the railroad tracks that run between the RV spaces and the tent spaces. The Durango & Silverton goes through 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the afternoon on the railroad tracks. The office is at the top, and there is a nice pool next to the office that is open until 8:45 pm. There is a small store next to the office. The internet did not work for us. There were about 6 different possible connections, but it really only worked in the office. Sites were close together. The place was full when we got there - they just had one spot, which they gave to us. We had tried to call to reserve a space, but the person answering the phone asked us to hold while she transacted some business with a customer, then forgot to pick the phone up again. Spaces were close together. There were mature trees every couple of spaces for shade. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Our 1st time in Durango. Very happy with the campground and staff. We requested to stay another night and it was no issue. Lots are mostly shady with a gravel surface and included a picnic table.

We would stay here again if in the area. The only downside is that the office is at the top of the hill. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Nice clean campground, tight sites and narrow access roads next to a busy highway (US550) offset by the Durango and Silverton tracks running right through the campground. Animas valley is scenic and proximity to town is great. Free Durango Trolly service with a stop nearby. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Travel Trailer.

We are here to ride the narrow gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton. We have stayed in this campground twice before ('95 and '10) and found it quite acceptable so we are back again. One of the attractions for us is that the train actually goes right through the campground. In addition, there is a shuttle that picks up right in front of the campground and drops us off right at the train. No worries with parking. The campground is "close" but accessible for even big rigs. We're -37 feet long and had no issues. The staff was "efficient".... let me say it that way. In the past, they have been more "engaging" but it was not as problem. Because of the train going RIGHT THROUGH THE CAMPGROUND, I like it alot!! We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.
