The good: Their selling point is being near the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. They are exceptionally close. There's great eating and hiking nearby. The facilities are generally acceptable.

The bad: there was a forest fire less than a mile from them a few days before our visit. The fire required the evacuation of the campground. They made no attempt to contact us. My number one priority is the safety of my family. I cannot recommend a campground that does not share that priority. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

This was a great park. Good services, good Wi-Fi. Apparently, moose come into the campground often, although we didn't see any. Gave it a 9 just because there was no sewer hookup at my site, although a dump station is available. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Very close to the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Also, very close to the charming town of Grand Lake, with shops and beautiful and developed lake front park. Good restaurants. If you're Catholic, you will love St. Anne's church.

Overall Rating:

Excellent campground literally feet from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. I waded through reviews for all the other Grand Lake sites before settling on this one. My parents were on this trip, so I wanted to find more of the creature comforts but still feel like you were outside. Many (but not all) the sites are separated by generous vegetation, so there is a decent sense of privacy. Numbered photos of each site are posted on their Facebook page if you really want to plan ahead. Huge and clean bathrooms with plenty of stalls plus private shower rooms. There is even an outdoor commercial sink with hot water so van and tent campers can wash dishes. WiFi only reaches a few sites, but there is a comfy TV lounge where you can browse away. Friendly staff with an even friendlier dog to welcome you. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is our second stay at Elk Creek. We had a wonderful week stay here! Not much to add that hasn't already been said! The absolute best campground in the area.
We reserved what (in our opinion!) is the best site in the lot, #011, one year in advance, during our first stay actually! This site is a FHU that backs in a small meadow. It's like having a big backyard! Trees abound and it has a wonderful feel to it.
We will be back! We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like looking at wildlife, take a drive around sunset just west of the campground. We usually saw deer, moose and even a fox!

Additionally there is a fantastic off-leash dog area just up the road!

Small park, limited number of full hookup sites with 50 amp. Very clean and only 1 mile to Rocky Mountain National Park and 2 miles to Grand Lake -- loved the location! Staff was excellent. Some sites can be challenging to back into and as on a hill leveling assistance may be needed -- 41 ft motorhome with tow vehicle. Moose walking through park while we were there- a real treat. Definitely will go back if in area! We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nice campground - larger than it looks from the road. It's in the Rocky Mountains so entirely level sites are a bit scarce. Some sites are big rig friendly. There are trees between most sites so privacy is better than average. We were in a Class B so site was spacious. Would come here again with our big rig but would want to make sure we had one of the big rig friendly sites. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

We loved this campground. The owners really care and answered so many questions to help our first trip to RMNP be an awesome one. They also are so nice, and went above and beyond for us. Rebecca really understands customers service, and we also enjoyed meeting the other family members and employees.

We do wish they had a fenced in dog run, but they were kind enough to tell us a few places right near the campground where we were allowed to take our dogs off leash to run and get worn out. (we have a young lab, need we say more?!)

Our site was quite private, and loved all the greenery and trees. Table was in good shape, and loved having a fire pit. Other campers were a pleasure to meet, they seem to attract good people.

We will definitely be back and hope they have room! We drove to Estes and were happy we choose to stay in Grand Lake. Campground is in a good area, and very close to the park entrance as well. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

ALOT to do! We spent a lot of time in RMNP, off-roading (they can help with areas to go in the national forest), and LOVED seeing "Forever Plaid" at the Rocky Mtn Repertory theater. First class production, highly recommend. So many lakes, places to check out, etc. Can't wait to come back.

They accept no discounts, AAA or Good Sam. They are a bit expensive for what they have. The sites are nice, all wooded. The lady checking everyone in was not very nice. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a beautiful campground just outside the nice village of Grand Lake, very close to the West entrance of Rocky Mountain NP!
Spacious gravel sites with grass and trees all around. Wildlife viewing at your site, in our case a moose crossing the campground.
About half the number of sites have no sewer connection, only water and electricity (like our site). Dumpsite available. Restrooms and showers were clean. Large TV-room and game room.
Wi-Fi signal is weak in the park, you have to go to the office or TV-room for good connection, but you take that for granted in a park like this.
After all we were lucky that the RV-parks on the East side of the mountains were fully booked! The prices are ridiculous over there, in Estes Park up to $70 a night. Are they cleaning your bathroom and changing the sheets for that price?
We know for sure, next time again on this side of the mountains. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay here! The staff is outstanding! There is a wide variety of sites here, but all have fantastic views! Out site, RV#1 was very level and had full hookups. (Not all sites are FHU). We did have wifi, but it was because we were close to the office. We did have strong AT&T signal. The sites in back are more rustic and forested. The sites in the middle surround a small forested meadow and, in my opinion, are the best sites in the campground. Most sites will accommodate good sized rv's, our 30ft trailer was easy to navigate around. Moose are a common sight at dusk in and around the park. The big draw to the area is the lakes. There are several ramps within 5 minutes of the campground and the campground has ample overflow parking for boats and stuff. This is a very dog-friendly campground and our 2 labs had as much fun as we did! There is an off-leash area 5 minutes away, a must do! The only negative notes is a lack of pool and that the roads are packed dirt. Afternoon rains are common, and it can get a bit sloppy. We will definitely be back next year! Elk Creek Campground is located just outside Rocky Mountain National Park, and is just up the road from the town of Grand Lake. Both are great places to visit. The people in this park aim to please. The bathrooms are spotless and seem brand new, with plenty of showers to serve the campers. The laundry room was also very clean and even offered an iron and ironing board. Our site was fairly private and level. We were happy to have a very strong Verizon signal. Our only complaint was that they charge $15 for a honey wagon service, which we thought was a bit excessive. We would definitely come here again if in the area. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

New owners purchased this park recently and they are providing "hands-on management." The setting is beautiful and the large sites are more typical of a state or national park. The laundry room, restrooms, and shower rooms are immaculate. Our only disappointment was that our site #38 was swampy. It appears there are water springs above and in this site. As a result, previous campers had moved the fire ring around to find a dry spot. This resulted in ashes mixed with wet gravel around the site, not a good combination. While these problems were not sufficient to cause us to change sites since we had no kids with us and were gone to during the day, this site should not be used until this wet condition is corrected. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice campground. Back in W/E site. Bring blocks, but not too hard to level. Had to carefully situate RV so canopy did not extend over fire ring. Much vegetation around affords privacy. Never got to see the moose in the campground but plenty seen around Grand Lake. WiFi decent. Store was closed by the time we went to purchase firewood, but friendly neighbor campers gave us some. We camped here in a motorhome. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Elk Creek is a very nice park. The bathrooms were very clean. We had trouble getting a Wi-Fi signal at our site so my husband went to the rec room to use his laptop. I got a good Verizon signal on my smartphone. The highlight of our trip were the moose in our site. They even brushed up against the back of our trailer while they were munching on the willows.
