We stayed here 3 nights since our in-laws were staying in one of the cabins. The RV sites have changed since last time and are in different locations. They now have better 30amp power set up which was nice when it was hot enough to warrant running our AC. Still back in sites and ours was next to the dumpster. They have laundry facilities available and one shower but we didn't use either. They are in a "garage" type building at the back which is not very convenient. They supposedly have a continental breakfast for RVs, but I don't know where this is served so didn't use this option. It's the closest place to park an RV near Twin Lakes with electric hookups but if you are looking for a full service RV park, you might want to go to Leadville or Buena Vista. It worked for our needs though and price was ok.
Not part of this review, but the cabins were ok, but dirty. In-laws spent 1/2 an hour cleaning microwave, windows, etc. Also did not have toaster or large kettle for cooking. - Fitzjohnfan
Sep 2010 - $10.00
This is a difficult place to rate because its not a typical RV park. The cabins were built first, and the two RV sites were put in much later as an afterthought. We and other relatives have been staying here for many years in the cabins, and we only found out last year that they have the RV sites. Both sites are back-in and you have to back down a small road, so I don't know if a very large rig (40'+) would make it, but maybe it could. Both sites have 20 amp electric only and no other hookups. (the electric pole wasn't working in our site, so I used the one next door) The sites are not very level, so be sure to have blocks and/or levelers. I can recommend this place for an RV, especially if you have other guests staying in the cabins, or if you need electric and want to be very close to the great fishing at Twin Lakes/Forebay, otherwise, I'd recommend either the National Forest campgrounds further up the road (summer only) or the other campgrounds in Leadville or Buena Vista. Keep in mind, we only paid $10.00/night. Note: this does not affect this review, but the cabins are clean with comfortable beds. The appliances are very dated, but functional. I would recommend staying in them if you are looking for a fully furnished cabin with showers and kitchenettes. - Fitzjohnfan

Jul 2016 - $0.00
We stayed here on 4th of July weekend and park was very busy. This is a free campground, so with that consideration, we really like this park. We have stayed here before and depending on how busy it is, you can select a site in the trees or out in the open. No amenities, except for vault toilets and rough fire rings built with rocks. Depending on the season, there can be large amounts of mosquitoes or none.
This stay was nice, but due to the extended weekend, there were too many large groups to make camping comfortable. Some stayed up too late with loud parties. We left the next day and stayed at a professional campground down the road. We will return, though, because the scenery is beautiful and fishing at the lake are great. You can't beat the price. - Fitzjohnfan

Nice NF campground with lots of space between sites and lovely views. Vault toilets were clean. Water convenient. Easy back-in spaces. - viadelmangos
May 2017 - $20.00
This is a national forest campground so reserved online. We booked a month in advance for camping during the week. This campground gets booked quickly on weekends and during the summer. Our site was on the Sage Loop which is the most big rig friendly loop. We had a level back-in site with plenty of room. This is dry camping, but this loop is good if you have solar. The views of the lake and mountains are beautiful. There is a $10 fee to dump and you need a water thief if you want to fill your tanks from the spigot. This location is great for sights in the area and for kayaking or fishing. Would stay here again. - mohocamper
Jan 2016 - $9.00
The Sage loop has very few trees so very sunny and warm. While the campsites are very spacious & widely spaced, most of the other camp sites are within view. Reservations well (months) in advance are a must. The camp host does a great job of keeping track of those reservations and posting on each site signs indicating the current/next party, their duration of stay and the next party & their duration. No Hookups. Water is available from nearby spigots (must use a "water thief device" to Fill jerry cans and fresh water holding tanks). Sufficient number of restrooms-pit toilets. Campground is in a great location for any number of outdoor activities. Boat launch ramps were closed during our stay due to the fear of waterborne pests. Canoes and kayaks can be launched, however. I would gladly stay here again. - DrDemento

Jul 2016 - $17.00
This is a Forest Service Campground with no hookups but the views and your surrounding make up for all of that. A few spaces will accommodate up to 40" MH and all are first come so it is best to get there early in the week and early in the day. The Camp Host was very helpful and went out her way to make sure we had what we needed. - MTFF
Jul 2010 - $15.00
The park itself is very nice with shaded sites and lots of privacy. This is a National Forest campground, so no amenities, but as long as you expect this, you'll have an enjoyable time. The campground host was wierd though. He watched us alot, and on the last day he went around and changed the check out time on all the paperwork from 2:00pm to 12:00, and made sure all campers knew about it with some threats about having to pay more. Since he's a volunteer host, it may be a different person next year. - Fitzjohnfan

Oct 2016 - $16.00
I had a great stay here at Railroad Bridge. We visited towards the end of the season in October, so the campground was half full. The water was down, which was convenient for my kids as otherwise I hear it can be raging during peak rafting season. Not much noise from the road, the river is right down below, and it was a clean spot. The only drawback is that there isn't a huge amount to do from right there at the campground, but I'd still go back. - onedoubles
Jul 2015 - $16.00
Railroad Bridge (part of the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area) is a wonderful place to camp in the Buena Vista area. It doesn't have hookups, water or dump station but it is situated right on the Arkansas River and only a 10-minute drive to Buena Vista. There are only 8 RV spots and three of them (3, 7 and 8) are really nice long back-ins. The rest are side-of-the-road pull-throughs that are still pretty nice. This campground is also a major river access point for rafting companies and there is a large parking lot and staging area for rafters. Some might mind the traffic and people coming through, but we liked watching the rafters and all the activity was only from about 9AM to 4 PM. At night the campground was quiet (except for the river) and peaceful. The fishing is excellent and the views of the surrounding mountains are spectacular. Access is via a dirt road from Buena Vista and there are some daunting old railroad tunnels on the road, but RVs will fit just fine (at least our 12'9" fifth wheel did). This campground is an undiscovered gem worth checking out if you want to stay in the Buena Vista area. - MrSunshine

Aug 2018 - $50.00
This park could be amazing but it is not taken care of. The staff are not all that friendly. The internet is not workable. It is a very old server and you constantly get booted off. They offer cable only in 50 amp sites. We only require 30 amps but have a 32 ft. motorhome. So with no internet, not even enough to download a book on my Kindle, it makes for a long stay when you are here for any length of time. We definitely would not recommend this park, nor would I stay here again. There is also no cell service anywhere in the park. Site was also very unlevel. Go somewhere else! - Jana Syring
Jul 2018 - $63.00
The price of $62.74 includes local tax and Good Sam discount, which is high for this area. WiFi is basically useless, cell service is also, unless you go to top of hill in the tent camper area. Both these problems are easily fixed by the owners if they cared. They advertise both available, but when I brought it up with the owner I was told to walk around, it works better in different locations in park. The site itself was fine, plenty big. We had 2 vehicles plus coach, both small cars fit on our site but they still required us to park 1 car in the overflow area. After 2 days we moved just down the road and stayed 10 days. $12 less per day cell service and great WiFi - Michaelp775
Jul 2018 - $40.00
Narrow, rutted gravel road to the office located in the back of the RV Park. Sites are wide gravel back in sites with table and fire ring. The office/store was well equipped. The staff did their jobs but not friendly, almost abrasive. The WIFI connected but has terrible bandwidth making it not worth the effort. The park is located 4-5 miles from Buena Vista but we had no cell service. I was able to hike up a steep hill to the tent camping area and got 3 bars. The laundry had new equipment but small washer tubs. The showers were unisex and clean. First time I've ever seen a coin operated shower. Bring plenty of quarters. There is no grass but our dogs learned to use the gravel. This park came recommended by another park owner. Regrettably, I should have relied on camper recommendations as we had plenty of other good looking, clean parks to choose from in the area. - Metro Johnson

Aug 2016 - $30.00
Cramped very unlevel gravel site with sewer connection on the uphill end. Adequate water pressure, and electrical connection. Spotty wifi.
Fortunately, we stay gone most of the time when we camp.
Nice people, and nice river access.
Best price I could find on short notice in the Buena Vista area.
Would not stay in the site I was in again, but would stay in CG. - wdwtx
Dec 2015 - $35.00
I was here in summer of 2015 before I joined this website and just had to correct some misinformation of earlier reviews. I lived outside Denver until last February and am now based in Colorado while "full-timing". I stay here every summer at least once while fly fishing in the area. There IS a path to the river that can be accessed from two places in the campground. I hate to let this information out, but this one of the few campgrounds in that has 1/4 Mile of PRIVATE WATER on the Arkansas River and public access all around it. The campground has a few long-term campers, but you would never know by looking. The owner meticulously maintains everything in the campground and goes out of his way to help you with whatever help you need. I have even seen him help people with maintenance issues on their rig. The wifi has always worked for me. I don't use the laundry facilities, but I can see where that might be an issue for some. The bathrooms are always clean. The road noise is the only negative, especially in the early morning, but our (new) big rig now keeps it shut out.
The previous reviewers who could find nothing to do there have never experienced the peace and tranquility of standing in the Arkansas River all day flailing the water with a 5wt. rod and a #20 Adams, or watching the owners of the mineral rights dredging for gold, or panning for gold themselves, or watching the Bighorn Sheep come to the water in the evening or splashing among big rock formations in a cold, clear mountain stream, etc.. Sure, there are no casinos, zip-lines, T-shirt shops, wax museums, trolley lines, etc.., but when you can look out your window and see the Collegiate Peaks dusted with snow and the aspens twinkling in the breeze among the pine trees - who cares? - coloradoflyfisher
Jun 2015 - $33.00
We stayed here for 3 days and the park was adequate for our needs. The sites are near the road, but we didn't notice any noise. The sites were very clean and the road looked to be "groomed" occasionally. The WiFi was free, but was very spotty. Verizon cell coverage seemed OK. Not much to do at the park, but OK place to come back to after a long day of site seeing.
It is big rig friendly. A large 45' prevost motor home parked at one of the drive through sites near us with no problems.
I asked if they had discount for FMCA, and manager didn't know what that group was, but gave me 10% discount anyway. - Fitzjohnfan

Stay away! Cross section of a rundown Section 8 housing and a dirty truck stop. Facilities are beyond disgusting. If we didn't have a motorhome with full facilities, I would have eaten the prepaid reservation and went down the street to a hotel. Only use in an emergency, this place is the exact opposite of what we RVers like to see in an RV park. - PA Motorhomers

This park is run down and populated with many full-time residents. Each site is gravel. Park is on a down slope. There was cable tv, sewer, 30/50 amp, and water. We enjoyed meeting the owner of the RV Park (very friendly). I wish there was soap in the restrooms. Pay showers too. - Robert the RV Warrior

I really like this park and the owners! They escorted us to our site and offered help to situate. We had a P-T on the end, thus no neighbor on awning side. Had a concrete pad with a new picnic table, and grass for the dog. Hookups were good and in the correct places. Had a good quiet night's sleep! Lots of deer roaming around. NO trains, planes or hiway noise!! We have been there before and we will go back. - number one
Aug 2018 - $23.00
There is always one person who cannot be pleased. It is not a "fancy" RV park just absolutely wonderful owners who have owned it for decades. If fancy lawns, etc, are more important to you than the owners and the people who have come here for 12, 16 or more years. This was our third year and, God willing, will be back next year again for a month or two. And look around at all the neat "stuff" that has been collected and around the Park. And the Clubhouse is like a small museum. Valley has the focus on people / customers more than anything. And that is most important to us. We love the Park and we love the owners. And we are not alone in that feeling. - AZSwede
Jun 2018 - $35.00
A former residential trailer park, some of it is now an RV park. Trees were not trimmed for our space or adjacent ones and it was difficult to back in and miss the tree branches. The guy directing us made light of the tree branches and only became more obnoxious as time went on. The water smelled and tasted bad, so we had to use gallon jugs from supermarket. Landscaping was deteriorating and grass was sparse and weedy. Obviously a place where the staff cannot keep up. Seems like a lot of the short term RV spaces are up front and the constant highway traffic was noisy. We didn't spend a lot of time outside, so noise and poor landscaping didn't matter that much. Seems like all spaces are back ins. A fair amount of space around pads was nice. We spent a week and we don't need to come back to Buena Vista for a long time, so it fades into the past of mediocre campgrounds. A lot of campgrounds in Buena Vista are more expensive, but the good reviews for here fooled us. - AirstreamGene

Sep 2018 - $43.00
If you are staying here for the first time, and your stay is short, you may think that Snowy Peaks is overrated and overpriced; that you can find something better in the area. If you stay longer you might change your mind. The place grows on you. It's not fancy, but it's functional and the location is fabulous. Everything is gravel and it can, at times, get a little dusty. The sites are level, but they're not roomy. When the park is full, which it usually is between Memorial Day and Labor Day, your neighbors will be close at hand and you'll likely share your yard/picnic/fire ring area with them. The four private bathroom/showers are a little tight but clean and functional. The laundry is serviceable but a bit cramped. The WiFi is spotty and slow when the park is full but improves significantly with fewer guests. Snowy peaks is not cheap. Stay a month and you'll pay north of $40 per night, plus electric. Yet many people come back year after year and stay the entire summer. A primary reason is the location; about a mile north of lovely, downtown Buena Vista on U.S. 24; halfway between Salida and Leadville. If you want full hookups and city conveniences in the Arkansas Valley you will be hard-pressed to find something better than this solid, shady, well-maintained park. Snowy Peaks is definitely worth a try. - TravelingTrailer
Sep 2018 - $56.00
Our stay was good. The sites were wide and staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Park is well maintained. All utilities worked great! We have stayed here before and it just gets better each time. - We2west
Aug 2018 - $42.00
The good. It is in town and the park is laid out well. 42 bucks a night is ridiculous for a water and electric site. Nice people but when you are told there is no discounts because it is "summer", it's time to move on to another campground in the future. There are some good things about this campground, but totally overpriced. They know they can get it. - Bill N NM
