Access to the park was good as was the signage. Check in was quick and pleasant. This is a reservation only park but we had not make a reservation. The young lady made everything work for us and we did not pay a reservation fee. We did pay a $7.00 entry fee. Parameter roads had a few potholes but none were that bad. Our site, Bald Eagle Point 52 was a level concrete pad with a covered table, fire pit, power, water and sewer all very well placed. The only drawback was the constant noise from the freeway. There are no restaurants or services within walking distance. We pair $35.00 including the entrance fee and feel we received good value. We would return if in the area. - Rollin Ollens

I would have given this park a "10" except that it is located next to I-25 so you are never free of the highway sounds, otherwise it's a great place to stay for a night or a week. Campground was amazingly clean as were the facilities. It is located next to the St. Vrain river and wetlands so there it's something of a bird watching mecca. Also there are plenty of nature and hiking trials as well as fishing opportunities. As for the campsites there are 87 total about half are electric only and the other half are full hookup. Each site comes with a level concrete pad, picnic table and fire ring. - longgone

This is a lovely state park RV CG, located near freeway and very convenient to Longmont area. Sites are pull-thru in loops adjacent to the graveled interior road, sites are graveled, very spacious, and surrounded by grass. Sites have picnic tables with a wind shield. Reservations require registration with state park service reservation system, but once done, easy to make reservations. This appears to be a very popular destination for locals on weekends, so reservations required far in advance for weekends, but not so much during the week. Park staff very friendly & helpful. - JerryD

So sorry about this place. We stayed here many years ago and it was nice. Now mostly long term people with permanent things added to their sites. No one seems to pick up after their dogs. Parking was very crowded...had to unhook to even go to site. Office staff was very friendly. - travel2011
Jan 2016 - $18.00
The park has power issues (very low voltage on one leg) which prevented the use of standard RV Surge protectors and low water pressure making showers a bit of a challenge.
RV Spaces are *very* tight. I had a family of HEAVY smokers next door that churned out more smoke than a Semi-Truck. With the trailers packed so close you get all the odors from your neighbor. Naturally they felt no reason to accomodate any nonsmoker requests. Had to resort to a filter mask. Due to tempuratures I was not able to use fans to clear out the RV air.
I was planning to stay through March, but ended up leaving after the first month. - WillD
May 2015 - $32.00
We stayed in space where we had more room between our units as ours was older unit. Newer units with slides and awnings will find it more challenging. Laundry facilities are taxing the drain system and overflow the drains, yet no warning signs are placed out. When office closes, not always as hours posted, no one will answer telephone until voicemail is listened to the following day, unless Sunday. Read all park posted signs pertaining to video taping and supposed rules, it may make your stay "easier?".
Sites are "graveled" still have drainage issues. - Traveler25

I don't even know where to start but will try going best to worst. The bathroom is clean enough to be tolerable - didn't use the showers but they appeared to be similar. That's the best. The sites are all gravel and dirt. No grass anywhere. They are literally side by side so slide-outs were within 1-2 feet of neighbor. You have to weave and duck to walk between sites. The whole place is pretty sketchy. We saw one site occupied by someone overhauling his pickup and apparently sleeping in the truck and my parents were nearly run over one night as the sheriff chased a vehicle through the campground. But wait, there's more. The host or ranger or whatever was the most awful, foul-tempered person I've ever encountered in a park. She yelled at people, accused one of our family of having expired license plates (they weren't), and ultimately kicked another one of my family out of the park (no refunds) saying their camper wasn't "legal". The alleged illegal camper was a recent private party purchase so no plates, rather, "In Transit", and keep bill of sale on you at all times, plate within 30 days - which is the law in our home state. Because that's apparently not the law in Colorado, she deemed them illegal and kicked them out (their pickup tow vehicle was plated and licensed). Her reasoning was they need to "keep the riffraff out". See above stories and know they aren't successful at keeping said "riffraff" out and her application of rules is inconsistent at best. We are a family of respectable professionals and retirees gathering for a family event in Colorado and we were treated horribly. Sadly, we had stayed at this park several years ago and it was much nicer and we never encountered such problems - so it has gone downhill fast. I will never ever consider staying here again. Find a Walmart parking lot - you'll be safer, better respected, and not be kicked out. - MamaK
Jul 2018 - $20.00
It's a good place to stay when passing through Boulder. Some grass and gravel. We stayed overnite, but spoke with people who had been there vacationing and they liked it. Close to activities in the area. - skier1947
Jul 2018 - $25.00
We were lucky to get the very last site that our rig could fit in - 30 amp electric only. The next day we were able to pull into a newer site with 50 amp and water. Sites are dirt but fairly level. We could not get satellite reception in the first site but were able to get it in the 2nd site. This is a very bare bones park with an automated system for paying. It's not possible to find an available site without using the machine which makes finding a site very difficult. You need to walk through and find sites without RVs and then go to the machine and plug in the site number to see if it's available. I will say the 2 park "rangers" were very helpful. We were here for a family reunion and all parks in the area from Denver north were full. Our reservation at a real park was mixed up so we had no choice but to stay here. It isn't bad for overnight if you can get in. Arrive early and hope! - dickens

Cons-In need of a facelift Old & unmaintained. No place for dogs, defunct mini golf course (if you want to call it that) no wifi, no cable or internet hook ups, no place for parking, majority permanent residents Pros- Great cell reception, cheap, shopping nearby, friendly residents. - Lostnsummr

Friendly owners which are very laid back. This is not your normal run RV Park. But I will stay here when ever we are in the area. Park could be greatly improved by making the permanent residents clean up around their sites. The Park has great access to the surrounding area. - From the Kites

Oct 2018 - $51.00
Made reservations for 9 nights a month in advance. Asked for a premium site as we have a 40 ft 5th wheel and another small car and was told no problem. Paid $470 total. We were crammed into a very small space not even room for picnic table between us and other trailer. Also had to park our truck in visitor parking as site was too short to park it there. When we complained they said that was all they had. There was several larger empty spaces in the park. - KellyT
Oct 2018 - $51.00
We called 1 hour before closing to see if they had a spot for the next day. They were opened when we arrived and indeed had a spot for the next day for 1 week that we could have. Since it was close to closing time, the computers were already shut down. We were assured it would be there for us the next day. I called as soon as the office was open the next morning. The lady told us that a note was left that we would be arriving the next morning. She took a deposit until we arrived and the balance was paid on arrival. Not only were the staff very polite and had worked things around so we could have 2 weeks in the same spot. Office staff was excellent and the man that guided us to our spot was fantastic. We have found this resort to be very clean and upgraded. Haven't used the bathrooms but everything else is nice and clean. Where else can you put your trash (in garbage bag) near the road in front of your site to be picked up all day??? That rates a 10 in my book. Will try our best to stay here next year for a month. - Bonnie Grafton
Aug 2018 - $51.00
The lady in the office was wonderfully nice. The place was very clean and has a fenced in dog park. The wifi was very good and there are a lot of trees. But... the spaces are VERY close together. My neighbor had a crying baby inside that I could hear in my motorhome over my AC and TV. That is how close they are. My spot had absolutely zero water pressure, the water trickled out of the shower and the kitchen I could not even rinse out a glass of water. Might stay here again for one night in a pinch. - DogFriendlyGuy

Directions to campground were poor. We had no Internet or telephone service but 44 channels over the air tv. We were in the new section of the south campground up on a hill overlooking the lake. Site was somewhat level. Very breezy in late afternoon. 20 miles to Loveland. - daviputnam
Jul 2016 - $24.00
Dogs are welcome but most people do not pick up after their animal. Many/Most of the sites are almost not navigable, very rough and impossible or difficult to get your RV level enough to use your refrigerator.
This is a County park and although a beautiful place the sites are small and not level. We have stayed at this camp ground 2 times and both time our awning was damaged but very harsh and sudden winds (gusty unexpected). Fishing is great but do not put out your awning. - Rex & Carol
Jun 2016 - $25.00
We stayed in E38 and it was a great site for our fifth wheel plus a tent pad. My daughter had her 17th B-day Camping party. The restrooms were close by and the showers too for her guests. I loved that it was within walking distance of the marina. We rented a boat and brought it there. We rented a slip for 2 nights so we could come and go on the lake. It was a fun trip. The park rangers were very present there so if you want to come and be rowdy this place isn't the place to do it. They stopped a few times for our neighbors and once to our site because the kids had their iPods playing music after 10 PM. I really enjoyed this trip. Last year we got a horrible site, E11. It didn't house our 5th wheel well at all. There was a tree that got in the way of our slideout so we had to face it in a different way than probably intended. It put us in downward facing when we stepped out the front : / This trip was very fun and we loved the site and it was within an hour of our home. - themayerfam

I stay here at least once a year, usually in the fall, and it's usually my last trip of the year before winterizing. I try to always stay in site 58 at the end of Loop B, what I feel is the best site. I always have a fantastic time and I hate to leave. The sites are pull-throughs with electric hookups only. There is a lot of room, and most sites have a tree or two. Because you don't need to worry about water or sewer, if you stay here with a friend you can both face each other if you're next to each other, making a common area that is really nice. There are some good views of the lake here and there, but you usually have to walk down to it to see the whole thing. There is a nice, cement path that goes along most of it, and you can use it to walk into town or to the swim beach. Be sure to walk out to the hunting areas to get out into nature a bit. The dump station can be busy on Sundays, so prepare for a wait. There are water spigots in a lot of places, so there is usually not a line for those. The picnic tables and fire rings are in good shape, but the pavement can be a bit rough. Sites are level, though. Bathrooms are in great shape, and the showers are nice. There is playground equipment, but note that the equipment at Loop C can be squeaky and loud if kids are on the swings. This is a great place for winterizing. If you run out of time to do it at your campsite, just go to the huge parking lots near the marina (if it is closed then the parking lots will be pretty empty). Everyone here is really nice, and no one seems to mind. The marina isn't big, and neither is the visitor center. There is no store or restaurant, but there is a gas station nearby outside the park. This place is awesome! - OffroadGirl
Oct 2018 - $30.00
This place has NO SOAP IN THE RESTROOMS. Like EVER. They just don't stock it, and there are no dispensers. You have to remember to bring hand soap each time or else you can't clean yourself. There's no sewer, only a dump station, and you have to share the water because there are only spigots intermittently throughout the park. You also have to hit the change machine and insert quarters in order to take a shower. It's a pretty setting, though rather brown and empty in fall. AT&T cell service was not good, and functioned somewhat intermittently and quite slowly despite the fact that signal was available. The additional fee to park your car is annoying, as is the fact that if you buy an annual pass, it's only valid if you physically, permanently attach a big sticker to your windshield. I added $5 per day to the cost above, as we stayed 14 days and bought an annual pass for park vehicle entry for $70. It's not too far from Loveland or Fort Collins, but it's not particularly close either. We stayed here more as a last resort because all of the other parks were full, even in October. Book early near Denver! - Anthony D
May 2018 - $24.00
Stayed hear while visiting relatives nearby. Things to remember is the price of camping does not cover the cost of the $8 daily entry rate. Also, the check in was extremely slow as the office at the park also registers boats- an extremely slow process. Although there is no sewer hook up, there are bathrooms and showers. The showers require quarters and I think it was $1 to get the shower started. All of the sites are pull through but area not big enough to leave the tow vehicle attached. - Cavtrooper

Carter Lake is a wonderful place to bring your boat! The Eagle campground is well kept and clean. It is an older campground and could use some improvements to interior roads and sites. Roads are gravel and dirt and some places can get a little steep when moving your rig around. Electrical hookups only and water spigots are situated here and there. Closest dump station is at the Ranger station about 15 minutes away. Our site, E-05, was a bit unlevel, it has the best view of the reservoir in the entire campground. Quite spectacular! Cell service was awful with T-Mobile. No wifi available. Shower house is fairly new and clean, but a bit pricey. You must purchase tokens for $1 each. 2 token minimum to start for 6 minutes. Eagle Campground is just across the street from the main marina and marina store, very convenient! There is ample parking for boats and extra vehicles next to the campground neat the shower house. Only really crappy thing that happened (Not the CG's fault) was some idiot stole my boat cover off my boat one night! Rangers were quick to respond, but a dead case. - colochoclab
Aug 2017 - $25.00
This is our second stay here at Carter Lake. This reservoir is a great place to bring your boat! Big and quiet even on a weekend! We camped in Eagle Campground across the street from the marina. Super close to the boat ramps and ample parking next to the campground for your boat and tow vehicle. A new shower house is close by all within walking distance from your campsite. Electric only, a dump station is a few miles away at the ranger station, water spigots are scattered throughout the campground. Beautiful scenery! Fairly heavily wooded area. Beware, the roads in the campground are tight and fairly steep at places, but manageable. Our site E-16 had a great view of the lake! Drawback of this particular site was it is crazy un level. 2 packs of leveling blocks plus some spare wood needed to level our 30 ft trailer. Most sites are fairly level, but be prepared. Quiet campground, moderate ranger presence so no issues! Spotty cell service with T-mobile. We will definitely be back! - colochoclab
Jun 2015 - $25.00
I am giving this park a negative review based on the first campground loop; we did not try the other loops. The positives - the hosts were friendly, the lake was beautiful and the marina store was great. They cleaned out your fire pit every morning, which was a nice touch. The negatives, and why we won't stay here again: the roads were in horrible condition, all dirt, just one giant pothole. That was the easy part of getting in! The entrance to the first campsite loop is up a hill, on a tight turn, flanked by trees and a side slope - all on loose gravel. We made it intact - barely, thanks to 4WD on our tow vehicle. Others weren't as lucky, as both trees on each side of the slope were completely gouged out by vehicles. Then we made it to our campsite. Not only was it incredibly unlevel, it was on a dirt/gravel mix that made it impossible to get traction. Even with 4WD enabled, we were still spinning our tires. We couldn't get the trailer on leveling blocks because the gravel would shoot them out. And we weren't the only ones, all through the park you could hear tires spinning on gravel as people returned to their campsites. In addition, the grass was not mowed and we saw numerous snakes at our camper, along with dead ones on the road. I would only camp here if you choose your site in person ahead of time and verify that you can enter and exit safely and that the site is indeed level. We did see some sites better than ours that were occupied. - wookiemouse

This place was very recently refurbished, and it's a really pretty, smaller park. You get the mountains in the backdrop, and fall is really beautiful here. The park has tons of amenities and things for kids to do. The city put a LOT of money into this place, and it's super walkable to cool things in town like the original Oskar Blues Brewery. It's not far from Boulder either. The camp host was exceptionally nice, and while the spot we initially reserved would up being more difficult to navigate (the sewer connection was just too far back), he quickly switched us to another spot that was a lot better. We were in spot 4, and you get really pretty views, whereas 12 was backed up to the trees (you wouldn't be able to see as much), and the sewer connection was next to the fence. AT&T cell service was good, but they don't have Wi-Fi. We really enjoyed this place and would recommend it to others. We paid $530 for 14 days. It wasn't busy in October. - Anthony D
Sep 2017 - $40.00
This RV Park has been completely rejuvenated after a terrible flood. New sites have been made. Unfortunately the price to stay here has escalated so that the park is no longer good value. All the sites are back-in. In half the sites, trees prevent getting satellite reception. Management seems unaware of the desire of many to get satellite TV reception, so all the sites backing up to the trees are filled while the more open spots are empty. There are rules against using charcoal barbecue except in the awkward pits provided by the park (Only one nearby for the motor home people.) We used to like this park, but because of the price and the problems with TV reception, we are unsure if we will stay there again. - hoppytoad
Jun 2017 - $35.00
This city park is right in downtown Lyons and was wiped out by a flood in 2013. Most of the town was damaged also. So the city rebuilt the entire park. Group shelters, picnic, tent site, restrooms, showers are all new. There are only 17 RV sites with full hook ups, more tent sites. This park stays full. Locals flood the park on weekends with soccer games and other activities. All roads in the park are dirt so with a lot of activity the dust flies so you have to keep doors and windows closed. No WiFi or cable. The rates are up there with nicer RV parks where these services are provided. But the city can charge these rates because there is no competition in the area. On top of that they only take cash or check as payment. That's just weird in this day and time. The camp hosts were super nice and helpful. We were next to them for three weeks and saw how hard they worked. The city feels they need to charge for a lot of things; the park parking lots have a electronic parking machine where visitors pay like $5 for four hours, showers are coin op. Most disturbing, the city will totally rent out the entire park to groups that allows this group to totally run the park for their group for a period of time. The park hosts have to move out during this time. Locals are banned from this city park during this time. Makes you wonder what's going on during this time. Weekends and summer traffic in Lyons is heavy with people headed and returning from Estes Park. All in all, this was the most unusual park we have stayed at, but we made the best of it. The City of Lyons is in the tourism business big time so they need to step up and up grade their services. - Milton1 -_

May 2018 - $34.00
We stayed at this park as the RV campgrounds in Estes Park were not open at this time of year. This is a very small reservoir with a nice camping area surrounding the water. At our pull through site the electric tower was on the wrong side of our coach necessitating running the hook up under the trailer. While this was inconvenient it did allow us to have a view through our larger side windows to the lake. We had a covered picnic table and a fire pit in a large area. It appears that the one way road entrance was changed without regard to electric hookups. There is no sewer dump at the park and the closest is at the South entrance which was about 20 minutes from the park past Carter Lake. There is one potable water faucet which did have threaded if needed to fill up, however it was very close to a site and would necessitate parking in the road to use. The park was completely full on the week-end and the spaces were all reserved. There are pit toilets available which were clean at this time of the year, however we did not see anyone stocking or cleaning the bathrooms and there appears to be no Park host. During our stay we had considerable rain and the roads and site were fairly muddy. The lake is too small for motorized boats but we did see people using kayaks and fishing. We had OTA television stations, but Verizon service was spotty and limited. There was no AT&T service. There is no designated dog area so walking was limited to the park road area and down near the shore of the lake. We would stay in this park again if we were in the area. - bbmidwife
Mar 2017 - $15.00
We were impressed with the staff when we checked in and even tho we didn't have a reservation, we were able to get a space. The area was clean and beautiful. We did notice that people didn't clean up after their dogs and that might be something to add to the regulations booklet. When we decided to stay an extra day, the person on duty that Sunday morning (March 19th) was "extra" pleasant and helpful to us and to the other campers that were checking in. - Arlene Harmon
Jul 2016 - $32.00
Dog feces is a problem since no one seems to pick up. Sites are very unlevel and rutted.
My site was facing the wrong way and I had to disconnect everything and turn around to leave because sometime since it was built the roadway has become one way. Extremely bad sites. - Rex & Carol
