Great park close to Telluride and great hiking. This facility was very well maintained and park host was very helpful. Cell service was not available. - Co6850
Jul 2016 - $21.00
The most popular campground in the San Juan National Forest, and for good reason: the view is spectacular. Most of the sites are level or nearly so. All are gravel. Some sites are nicely shaded, others are in the sun.
Fills up quickly, even on weekdays. If you didn't make a reservation, you will need to get there in the morning to snag one of the first-come-first-served sites as someone else moves out. Cellular signal is too weak for handheld phones, but with a so-called "booster" antenna on an LTE router you can actually have Internet. - Old Mountain Man

We came for the Silverton 4th of July, and to rent a Jeep for a slice of the Alpine Loop drive. Both were great, with the best Fireworks Show we'd ever experienced. The owners of the park are two real nice people - hate to use this cliche, but they're 'Good People!'. They make all guests feel welcomed, and go out of their way to be accommodating. They put on a 4th's BBQ for family, friends and park guests. Reading many of the other reviews, I perceived that many guests 'Get it!, while a few 'Missed it!' - as far as what this park and motel is all about. Depending upon what time of the season a guest came, sure could make a difference on their opinion of the park. Heck, just 5-6 weeks before we checked in, they had over a foot of snow covering the campground. Snow and slush goes away, and then you have the maintenance prep rush, gravel for some of the parks roads and sites too. Grass and landscaping need to recover, and that takes time. This is ~9300' country, and things are different at this elevation. We were in their front part of the park, below the motel rooms, we had Site 1 with water and 20/30/50A service for our stay. Pull thru, plenty of length for our 40' RV and Toad, and good spacing between the neighboring sites. All mechanicals worked as expected. Another nice thing that is provided is the ability to rent well cared for Jeeps. They're new each season, and they are ordered right, to provide an added bit of safety and 'not getting stuck'. Many other guests we met 'Get it!', one group has come for over a decade. This park provides you a beautiful valley/mountain/steam train setting... as a haven and home base while exploring the region. Good Verison, AT&T too (But out due to teenagers shooting the tower while we were here!) Rate was weekly. Great owner's, great place. - Gsmitty
Jul 2016 - $40.00
The owners of Red Mountain RV are the best! There are many choices for an RV park in this beautiful area and Red Mountain is our home in Silverton. We stay in this park every Fourth of July and the Lockey's go out of their way to make us feel like family. - OutbackUSA
Jul 2014 - $43.00
This is a pretty average campground, but probably one of the best in the Silverton area. The campsites, reasonably level on a gravel bed, are fairly narrow and arranged in a double row, back to back. The utilities all work with no problem. The campground is fairly close to the railroad track, --- only this case it is a bonus --- as one can get a good view of the narrow gauge railroad trains driven by a coal-fired engine carrying sight-seeing passengers to and from Silverton two or three times a day. There are no trains at night! I am a little chafed at the high daily rate, as we were part of a large 4-wheeling rally. When we asked for Good Sam discount, we were told no discounts were given to rally participants --- not what we usually encounter when attending rallies. Still we would stay here again as the RV park is convenient to Silverton, and in a pleasant setting; but we would probably be a little more aggressive in trying to get a reasonable daily rate. - hoppytoad

Let me qualify my comments by stating that there are only 3 RV parks in Silverton, Co. They are all the same. It's a captive audience and they don't have to compete much because they are all busy. The ladies in the office were friendly and helpful. The men could use a touch of "friendly"!!!! Silverton caters to ATVs and 4 wheelers so the park is full of toy-haulers and, of course, noisy toys. - 1texan
Jun 2018 - $40.00
Owners were pleasant and the bathrooms/showers were clean and functional. The sites are very close together but long enough to accommodate and size rig. Between the first row and the RR tracks is a large grassy field where you can park other vehicles and run your pups. The park is within walking distance of downtown Silverton where shops and restaurants abound. - cfmelville
Jul 2017 - $42.00
Hosts are cranky! Sites are very tight, gravel with some grass. The only redeeming value for this parking lot of a campground is that it is in Silverton, with easy quad access to local off-road areas. - Seagrace

This park is now owned by Silverton Lakes Campground so you have to register there. I called ahead to confirm my site so I could go to A & B, unhitch the toad, and drive it to Silverton Lakes Campground to register. There is no one manning the office at A & B but we didn't need help. The nine sites facing southeast (toward Kendall Mountain) are far superior to the eight facing southwest. In addition to the views, the campground was adequate except for the WiFi, which cannot be counted on (Verizon signal was good). Cement Creek (the site of the infamous EPA spill) flows along the edge of the campground, but didn't look any different than when we stayed there a year ago. After checking out all the RV parks in Silverton, this one was the least crowded, quietest, and very close to the restaurants. - Dr. John
Sep 2014 - $40.00
This park is within 2 blocks of the main street of Silverton. Easy walk to any of the stores and restaurants and the D&S depot. At 9000+ elevation, it gets cold at night in September but the days warmed up nicely. Like everything else in Silverton, this park is a little overpriced but is quiet except when the trains arrive and depart. We will stay here again. - Delbert
Sep 2013 - $32.00
Top reasons to stay at A&B: 1) location. Located in the center of town. Sure, Silverton is small, but just 1 - 2 blocks away are restaurants, Montagna's Distillery and shops. 2) friendly folks. I have stayed here before and always feel good with these folks. My stay was somewhat open-ended and I had only booked 3 days with them but ended up staying 8 days (and my rate was adjusted to the weekly rate) but no problems! The park is not fancy but the views are great! - Nrf

If you wish to be in a forest, possibly along a creek (Dolores Creek), at a site with good space for either pull-throughs, or back-in (we actually pulled straight into a space so that our view would be of the forest) - this is your spot. A U. S. Forest Service Park - most all spaces offer a picnic table, an elevated area for tent, a defined parking area. What was amazing to us was the excellent power - 50/30/20 at most all of the sites. At the power was good. Location about 20 miles from Telluride - over Lizard Head Pass, the altitude was 9.500 ft. While each spot had a metal fire pit with cooking rack - the fire restriction eliminated us using it for a campfire. We had planned to return to Telluride for a day outing, but the rain just suggested we stay in the RV catch up on some reading. This campground would be a great location for a few days in a forest, unconnected from technology - how ever I did note a couple of open spots where access to satellite TV would be possible. So in sum: no water available, no sewer, great power and newer clean pit toilets. There are some non-electric spots for those true campers in Loop B. Reservations may be made at Recreation.gov. I regret not taking photos of the location. Had no problems in the park. Just remember there are trees around you. Cayton campground is located along the San Juan Skyway (Colorado Highway 145) and the Dolores River. Only heard an occasional truck pass by. - mesathom
Aug 2018 - $30.00
We stumbled on this park after spending a day in Telluride. We got lucky and found a nice big RV site and were also surprised to find that it had 50 amp power so we didn't have to run our generator in this beautiful setting & disturb other campers. No water or sewer hookup which was fine because we were prepared to dry camp. Not all sites have electric so tents it's good for tent campers. Campground is on the Dolores River tucked back from the road. We only got to stay one night but it was very pleasant. There is a dump station but it cost an add'l $15 so we didn't use it. - coolplanetg

Jul 2015 - $37.00
We had the same problem as the other couple that stayed July 2015. Park was packed and very difficult to maneuver RV and truck in. Luckily, on the morning we were leaving, the nice gentlemen across from us moved their trucks so we could pull out and leave. We have already reserved a more accessible camp spot for next year where we will not have this problem.
Staff was VERY nice. Location was great. Just outside of the main street. Made for a nice walk in the mornings. The roads to and from town were OHV friendly, so we could drive our UTV to the car wash and to the grocery store. They rent fire pits to you for very inexpensive, which was nice. They have 3 or 4 cabins that people without RV's can stay in.
We will be back next year but super happy we already chose and reserved our space. - 2TEXOMA
Jul 2015 - $37.00
After checking in, we had to ask around to have both an ATV and car moved because it would not have been possible to maneuver in to our site. The whole park is a muddy mess when it rains, but then again so is most of Silverton. What seemed to be the owners and their friends were being rather loud outside the main building near our site until about 11 PM. Short-term sites are very close together with slideouts practically touching. Our site was sloped up at the truck end which made detaching and attaching our weight distribution bars almost impossible due to the angle. Wi-Fi crashed and disappeared during the one time I used it. I probably wouldn't stay here again. On the bright side, the staff was friendly and helpful. - Brad & Angela
Aug 2014 - $36.00
The good: The park is a short walk into town and conveniently located. Seems to be more popular with the ATVers and off-road motorcycle crowd, as you can ride right out of the park and up to the trails. Our site was fairly level, the 50 amp power worked well and water pressure was great. There was a small grass "pet area" directly across from us that was also very convenient. The laundry room was clean although we didn't need to use it for anything more than getting a Wi-Fi signal. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The Bad: The entire park is part gravel, patches of grass here and there and mud. When it rains it's a bit of a mess so you had better have a patio rug to put outside your door. Wi-Fi signal was unusable even though we were parked within about 60' of the office. Had to go sit in the laundry room to be able to do anything. Some sites have the power and sewer on the wrong side requiring you to either park opposite direction of your neighbor or run all your hookups under your rig. This is a no frills park and it worked for our needs but I do wish they would bring in a lot more gravel to help with the mud situation. I would likely try and get into the park on the other end of town or dry camp at one of the wonderful locations that are so available in the area on our next visit to Silverton. - NwJeeper

Sep 2016 - $45.00
It's hard to accurately rate this experience. First, our site. We paid $45 for one of the 4 premium sites. Our view was spectacular, but we didn't actually know where we were supposed to setup camp because there are no markers - and then whoever was there before us moved the fire ring so there was a large pile of ash & charred wood that we had to deal with. Then - fishermen take note. The fishing is awesome...but campsites 'own' any part of the lake close to their site. We found a lovely place to fish - but were chased out by the campground host because it belonged to a campsite - even though the site in question was at least 50' away, on top of a hill, and the last campers had left. We've camped & fished many places and have never run into a situation where a campground site controls the waterfront. This is not posted anywhere. If you want to camp & fish here, be darn sure of where you are allowed to be. - 08Passport
Jul 2013 - $15.00
Beautiful setting, but no utility amenities, except for one fresh water drinking faucet located beside office which can be used to fill drinking containers, or your RV fresh water tank, if you have your own hose. This is dry camping at its finest, as long as your rig is no more than 23 feet in length, otherwise, you are limited to a man-made parking lot that was cut right out of the middle of a very large hill - unless you want to pay $45 per night for one of four "premium" RV sites upon another hill overlooking the lake (yet they did not appear to be worth the cost at all). Because the basic big rig parking area is cut out of the middle of a very large hill, and the camping parking area is within the cut out, you have no view except of the hill side in front of and behind you UNLESS you are on one of the ends. On their website, this parking area is referred to as located "within a unique geological formation". That misleading description sounds appealing, but the bottom line is that this park has great dry camping IF your rig is no longer than 23' in length. Otherwise, you will be basically stuck in an after-thought parking area with no view and not close to or even really part of the real campground. - God Bless America
Jul 2011 - $18.00
This is a City of Silverton owned park. This park is almost at top of continental divide at 10,515 ft. It has some of the prettiest most breath taking views you will ever see. We stayed here in July, and all the mountains surrounding the lake were covered with snow. The sites were all very nice and clean. Since there are no hook-ups, we ran our generator and filled up with water at the check-in station. All of the sites have a great view of the lake. The site we stayed in backed right up to the water, we were about 15' from the water. The temperature is very cool here being up in the mountains, one day the high was 53 degrees and we were here in July. I think some would consider this a primitive camp site, however I have stayed at worse camp sites with hook ups. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table, the sites are all covered with gravel with zero dust. We all road bikes, fished, and hiked. I highly recommend that if you are in the area, try to at least camp here one night, might be the most beautiful campsite you will ever stay at. The mountains reflect off the water, the air is crisp and clean, and the nights are silent and peaceful. If we are ever in the area again, we will certainly stay here again. One word of caution, the rules say generator use from 8am to 8pm. We ran our generator earlier and later than those times without a problem. HOWEVER and this is a big HOWEVER, we have a very quiet Yamaha. I spoke with the guy who lives on site and runs the place, and he said no problem with this as our generator was so quiet. He did say that he does have a problem with those who have those loud contractor type generators. So if you have a loud generator, 8am-8pm. The guy who runs everything was a really nice guy, but I would not recommend pushing your luck with him either. - TXDego

For those who want to "rough it" a bit. No electricity, water only from a spigot. Not a real lake; it's an irrigation reservoir but still kinda nice. The largest negative value of this campground (and the reason I didn't stay very long) are the hordes of evil, little spawn-of-Satan biting flies. They are way, way worse than mosquitoes and will keep you inside with window screens tightly closed most of the time. About half of the sites are level and large enough for a 30 footer; a few will acommodate big rigs. Nice views of nearby mountains. - Old Mountain Man
Oct 2012 - $14.00
Great remote location in the heart of the Rockies near Telluride and Wilson Mesa. This is a NSF site so not much in the way of amenities. I was there to shoot the fall colors but missed the window by a couple of weeks. Restrooms were closed, vault toilets, but they had portal potties at each of the restroom locations. Actually was able to connect via Verizon using a booster amp. But no over air TV. - Gary Camp-Inn

Sep 2018 - $40.00
This Rv park is very small. The lane to the sites are very narrow and we caught the top of our Rv on a tree trunk that jotted out into the road. I walked it off from the tree to the parked motorhome across the road were 17 steps of my size 8 feet. The tree caused almost 2000 dollars in damage to our rig. The sites are cramped on top of each other. We could smell the sewer of the motor home next to us. There is no where to park your vehicle once you unhook. The trailer next to us parked under our slide and kept hitting our trailer. We were yelled at by another person for hemming them In the "overflow" parking. We voiced our concerns to the owner but were treated rudely and disrespectfully. We will never stay there again no matter how nice Ouray is... - Hello Kitty
Aug 2018 - $44.00
Great views at this park. The location is great! You can walk to town. Except for a few sites, they are crazy close together. My awning covered part of the trailer next to us. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The laundry room was clean but only had two washing machines and three dryers working. - Fishclan Adventures
Jun 2018 - $41.00
Folks: It aint about the campground....Ouray is the most scenic town we have visited in Colorado. The mountains rise up at the edge of town....amazing. This campground is right in the middle of town well within walking distance. Check in was quick and easy. If you have a big rig: navigation can be a bit tight and most of the sites are narrow so, if you are sitting under your awning, you will have a ring-side seat when your neighbor dumps his tanks. The wifi is very slow and, although we had 4 bars of 4G signal on AT&T, it was very, very slow as well. The restrooms and laundry room were as clean as I have ever seen. The sound of the river is mesmerizing. We would definitely stay here again. There was a burn-ban while we were there...no outdoor campfires or charcoal grills. Propane grills were allowed and available at the hardware store downtown (well within walking distance). - GoHorns!
