Called to make reservation and they said just show up and pick a site. Make sure everything is working then come to the office. So I pulled in and started looking at the gravel sites. Didn't see 50 amps and when I opened an electric panel to see, there was a wasp nest inside. Went to office and they couldn't tell me which open sites have 50 amp service. She said to check any open sites, but watch out for wasps. Thanks. Went to another site, opened the panel and, again, wasps in residence. We left. Horribly maintained. Everything seemed broken. Total lack of service. Only happy campers were the wasps. - nrb

Had to look close for an electric box that was working. Needs some repairs to hookups . Looks as if they are trying to make some improvements. - Donny Mackelprang
May 2017 - $25.00
We stayed for 3 mo . The staff was wonderful. The site was large and a concrete pad. The views were beautiful. Some sites don't work i.e. Electric or water, but I think they are improving. - Michelle D

Rate is monthly rate divided by 30. This is a bit of a "Party Town" park -- they openly advertise that they are "420-friendly" which does attract a certain crowd. On the other hand, everyone -- staff and guests -- are very friendly and mellow. Lots of cats about, which is always a good sign. With the grocery store in town closed, this C-store is the only place for miles around to buy gas or food, so there is lots of traffic, with concomitant noise & dust. Also, the pull-through sites are NOT LEVEL and leveling is done only with extreme effort. The pull-throughs are also very close together, to the point where slide-outs intrude onto neighboring spaces. These are the closest full hookup sites to the Grand Mesa, and there is also an RV dump for folks returning home from the Mesa. I will definitely stay here again, but not during the hot part of the year: there is no shade except in site A. - Old Mountain Man
Sep 2011 - $35.00
This park's name is accurate - RV CAMP. It's not a resort or even a park because it's pretty rustic. The spaces are nebulous (tough to know if you're really in one), but they give you enough freedom to get almost) level. The surface is occasional gravel with cement & rock fire pits. There were no vacationers while we were there, just workers in the local industries (although they were very friendly. We would stay here again if we wanted to visit the Grand Mesa for fall colors, but I do believe the price is too high for no cable (because you probably won't get broadcast channels). Looks like the park is for sale --I hope the new owners will put a little money into the place and make it a true destination because the Mesa is an awesome place (and there are no full hookups higher on the mountain). - User873

Rifle Gap State Park is built around the reservoir created behind the Rifle Gap Dam about six or seven miles outside of Rifle. It's main purpose seems to be to give the semi-local folks somewhere to take their motor boats. It's relatively small and since motor boats are allowed you will be able to hear them during the day. The noise was not obnoxious when we were there in early season but it probably gets more crowded in July and August and therefore louder. The boat ramp is set up to handle fairly sizeable boats and there were a number of fisherman out also in the early morning and evenings. It's a popular spot. If you want a little more quiet and some trees go up the road to Rifle Falls Campground but make reservations early for that one. It's small and fills up fast. Pinion Loop at Rifle Gap State Park is a small loop and allows only tents and small RVs. The loop is high on a hill overlooking the reservoir. There are two campsites (86 and 87) that directly face the view. I stayed in 87 and I recommend 86. This is also about the only loop in the park to offer any shade. I don't fish or water ski so a couple nights was all I needed to see it, get a few good pictures and make some nice memories of camping. The campfire in the evening overlooking the reservoir and the gap with many stars and a full moon was truly awesome. - Lifes Good

Like the review below we also stayed on the Cedar loop in site # 63 right on the water. The electric is on the wrong side but I had no trouble reaching it, just had to run the cord behind the 5th wheel to plug in. Beautiful area, great state park workers and camp host. really friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again if in the area. The price does not reflect an additional 7.oo daily park pass. - Linda Allan
May 2017 - $34.00
This is a beautiful park directly on a reservoir with incredibly friendly camp hosts. Our site was #63 on the Cedar Loop which had us right next to the water. We used this as an overnight stop on a cross-country trip. It is not too far from the interstate on good roads. There are both back-in and pull through sites with electric only. The road through the park is one way and the electric poles are on the wrong side of the sites! If they would change the direction of the road it would make it much easier to pull in or back in to a site so the electric would be on the correct side of the units. We highly recommend this park keeping in mind the utility quirks mentioned above. Each site had a fire ring and a covered picnic table. There were some handicapped sites available which had concrete pads rather than the gravel at the rest of the sites. There were two unisex toilet/shower rooms plus two pit toilets. We saw mule deer right in the campground as well as Canada geese on the lake and Magpies nesting in the tree at our site. There were reports of bear and mountain lions in the area although we didn't see them. The phone service was spotty and there was no internet. Fishing is allowed in the reservoir. - Gawa

We stayed in the Cottonwood Loop and this is a wonderful Colorado State Park. It is clean and very well maintained. Note however that Cottonwood Loop only has 8 campsites. There are two other loops with more campsites. The Park does not take reservations. There is an additional $7.00 park use fee in addition to the $24 campsite fee. The loop is right on a lake and the trout were rising. The pads are level, gravel, and each site has a gazebo style covered picnic table with full hookups. There was plenty of room between sites and lots of grassy areas to walk our dog. We would definitely stay here again. - HangDiver

Yes lovely views over the lake but that is all it has. The site had dog droppings around it. Yuck. The bathrooms are another subject, showers plugged up, no hot water after having to pay $1 for 4 minutes, sinks plugged and bathrooms smelly. Oh lots and lots of mosquitos. What a let down after having been to lots of other state parks. - Grey Nomad
Oct 2015 - $22.00
We camped at Vega State Park in the Early Settlers CG in August and again in October 2015. This is the only campground in the park with electric and water. It has beautiful views. No trees but the views make up for it. Spaces are nicely laid out. You can ride your ATV right from the campground to some nice public land trails. Bath house is clean and everything worked well. Our friends camped at the primitive CG about 1/2 mile away. They also enjoyed their experience. The primitive CG had trees and very private spots. We will continue to stay at Vega State Park. One note: there is no cell service around the area at all. The nearest place we could get service was about 7 miles West toward the small town of Collbran. - User3442
Jun 2012 - $30.00
We had a very nice lakeside spot with covered picnic table. Fishing was great. Easy access to Grand Mesa. However, the bathrooms were run down and nasty. Showers were disgusting. They were pay showers that liked to take your money. Camp hosts were grumpy. You would think a place without full hook-ups would try to keep the bathrooms in good repair. We were saddened because Colorado State Parks are usually our favorites to stay in. Bring your bird feeders. There are millions of hummingbirds here. - squeek33

Very nice and beautiful area! The campground is very well maintained, clean and all hook ups are easy to use. Would have giving it a 10 however NO shade at all. Sites are large and all utilities are accessible and the sites are easy to pull in to. We were in site #22 in the lakeview loop and loved it. The lake was really low and they really need some rain and LOTS of snow to refill them. Would recommend this park!! Wild life seen every morning and every evening really close to our campsite. One shocker was the additional $7.00 per day for the use of the state park above and beyond the nightly site rental price. Be prepared for the additional cost, however it is good at any State Park in Colorado. I think it was like $70.00 for a entire yearly pass!! - lgvig
Sep 2018 - $28.00
Park is about 10 miles from the interstate. The last 5-6 miles of the road are slightly narrow with a few curves but doable in motor home. A couple of sections of the roads inside the park are narrow for two way traffic but they are well marked. The sites are very large and level and parking is very easy. Good price for full hookups. The rate does not reflect the $10.00 reservation fee and the daily park entrance fee. We are staying several nights at Colorado State Parks so we purchased the annual pass for $70.00. This pass went on the motor home. Our tow vehicle was free as long as the vehicle is towed into the park at check in. You will receive a tow vehicle pass. We stayed here in a 40 foot motor home. - Mustcamp

Rifle Gap State Park / reservoir is approximately 15 minutes north of the town of Rifle, Colorado. The Lakeview Loop is the only FHU loop at the campground and appears to be the newest, built within the last 10 years or so. Main interior roads are well paved as is the Lakeview Loop. The other, older loops, are gravel roads with electric or no hookups. A large variety to choose from! Our site, #014, was VERY level and has a good view of the reservoir. Asphalt road with a concrete pad and gravel patio space much in the fashion of other state parks. No issues with electric, sewer or water. Some previous posts complained of low water pressure when the campground is full, but we had no issues whatsoever! The main draw of the campground is the reservoir. Rifle Gap reservoir is an irrigation reservoir and water level was down 28 feet during our stay. The long, narrow reservoir is a great place for water skiing and boat traffic was very low despite the weekend. Boat ramps were long and wide, but there is no marina or store. Cell service was spotty, but we did have 4g with T-Mobile at our site. It did get very hot during our stay (102+) with some wind at night. Not much in the way of trees anywhere. Camp hosts were wonderful and friendly! We will be back! - colochoclab

Nice open park right on the Colorado River. Close to I-70 for easy access to Glenwood Springs and environs although the park is 19 miles from downtown. The back-in riverfront patio sites are very nice and right on the river. Everything in the park was spotlessly clean. - cfmelville
Oct 2018 - $42.00
This KOA seems relatively new and has nice large pull through sites. RVs are not stacked next to one another with barely room to walk. Nice green space as well and they have the best K9 Kamp I've seen. Showers are clean and good size. The staff was great! I recommend this location when visiting western Colorado. - Ribboy58
Oct 2018 - $48.00
We camped here for 6 nights. Friendly owner and staff. We stayed in a Premium pull-thru. Sites are level with gravel and full side concrete patio with table and chairs. Verizon has strong signal. We used it for WiFi but think the park WiFi was good also. Did not use any of the other facilities at park. Only negative for the park is that since it is close to I-70 there is a lot of road noise if sitting outside. - Traveling and Living

Nice, small state park. Electric is steady, water pressure is good. Not sure about AT&T but Verizon is very weak here. There is a lot of beautiful scenery, however you are sandwiched between a train track and a major (I-70) interstate, so there is road noise. The train doesn't always blow horns when they pass, but they do occasionally, probably for animals on the track. The sites are spacious, several pull-thru, some have canopies, some do not. There a 4 sections, 2 with full hook ups, 1 for tents and 1 electric only. They do have a dump station. Camp hosts were very active, friendly and visible. Sites are kept clean. We saw numerous dogs off leash, leash rule does not appear to be enforced routinely, there were too many dogs at several campsites which led to excessive barking at every movement. There is a swimming pond, a fishing pond and the Colorado River runs right beside the park. There are several areas to walk and bike in, not sure about boating. The bathhouse was clean when we stepped in. They do offer a washer room, 2 washers $1.50 each and 2 dryers, $1.00 each. They worked very well. Staff was very nice; rangers are visible in the park. We would stay here again. - Fixn2gocamp
May 2018 - $30.00
A beautiful place to stay between two mountains. Three lakes and the river has plenty of fish. Sunrise and sunsets are outstanding. I-70 and a railroad nearby can be noisy at times. Restrooms are nice, must pay to use showers. Camphosts are very friendly. - Raegirl2
Nov 2017 - $24.00
To clarify, this is the James M. Robb park in Palisades. There is another campground by the same name in Fruita. This park is located in a canyon, which makes for great scenery, but terrible to non-exsistant cell/internet/tv reception. Camped here in early November. All water shut off and no water available at dump station. Sewer at the dump station was even locked up. Vault toilets only this time of year. Convenient 15 minute drive to Grand Junction.
We were the only camper here, and it was a little scary as the neighborhood seemed a little sketchy. Boarded up restaurants across the street. Register yourself if no one is there. You will need an $8 day pass for each vehicle in addition to the camping fee. - cherrytree
