Easy reservation and check-in. Easy in and out from the main road. Level site with grass and small concrete block patio area. We stayed one night as we were passing through, and it was perfect for that. Easy walking distance to downtown. Laundry area was clean, staff friendly. Sites are close together with no privacy or shade, but looks similar to other options in the area. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Sites are very close together. Our slide-out almost touched the awning of the RV behind us. No mats are allowed on grass which made for a mess in the RV. Another RV Park is beside this one is all gravel and sites were more spacious. Scenery was gorgeous from this park and was only a few blocks from downtown Silverton. Lots of noise from UTVs as the public staging area adjoins the campground. Very convenient if you are there to 4-wheel. This park rents Jeeps but be advised that 5 out of 7 had expired tags. When we questioned the office, we were told that the county had made a mistake and that we would not be ticketed for it, which we did not believe. The Jeeps appeared to be in disrepair. One was up on jack stands being repaired by employees. Needless to say, we rented elsewhere. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Rock Pirates rents late model Polaris 4-wheelers. Vehicles are in good condition and come with a GPS and emergency locator directly tied to Rock Pirates. They're more expensive than renting a jeep but the peace of mind was worth it.

Let me qualify my comments by stating that there are only 3 RV parks in Silverton, Co. They are all the same. It's a captive audience and they don't have to compete much because they are all busy. The ladies in the office were friendly and helpful. The men could use a touch of "friendly"!!!! Silverton caters to ATVs and 4 wheelers so the park is full of toy-haulers and, of course, noisy toys. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The town is a clean laid-back tourist town that thrives on customers from the Durango-Silverton sight seeing train. Folks are friendly. The town is 2 blocks from the RV park.

Owners were pleasant and the bathrooms/showers were clean and functional. The sites are very close together but long enough to accommodate and size rig. Between the first row and the RR tracks is a large grassy field where you can park other vehicles and run your pups. The park is within walking distance of downtown Silverton where shops and restaurants abound. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

High altitude hiking and OHV heaven! OHV's are allowed on the main street and designated side streets and you can drive them all the way to Lake City or Telluride if you're up to it.

Hosts are cranky! Sites are very tight, gravel with some grass. The only redeeming value for this parking lot of a campground is that it is in Silverton, with easy quad access to local off-road areas. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Silverton is the front door to the Alpine Loop. Hundreds of miles of 4x4 trails can be accessed from here with no staging. Also, the Durango and Silverton tracks are about 200yds south of this campground.

We were two spaces west of office. Owners next door. It was just a week before they close for the season so park was almost totally empty. They are very nice, friendly and helpful. My wife called from Ouray as both it was raining and the road was closed during the day, opening at 5 PM. We wanted to know if they thought travel over the 550 was OK and was there snow at the top. Owner said road construction tight, but passable with our 40 footer towing. We would arrive after close and they were going to be out for the evening. Owner gave wife the Wi-Fi code, which space to park. We thought that was above what other parks have done.

He did come over and shut off our water at 5 AM, again at 10 AM, which the second time I saw him, opened the window to talk. He gave me a bit of a reprimand for a dripping hose connection. Says water is expensive in Silverton, one cent per gallon (maybe it is). I cost them about $3 for the 12 hours of drip. I apologized and the rest of our stay was great. We did arrive late and in a pretty good rain storm.

Wow what views there. The Durango/Silverton steam train is right behind the park so you see and here it every day. Park is walking distance to train station, and downtown Silverton. They have no fire rings but it's OK if you have your own.

Lots and lots of grass, a bit frosty in the morning which we were told is standard all summer. We will stay there again, but for more than the three nights as this time. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Ride the Durango Silverton steam train. Rent a jeep and go back in the mountains as we did. (They rent Jeeps right at the RV park.). Shop (go to the 550 store and eat at Handlebars.)

We had grass on 3 sides of us which was great for the dogs. Wifi was excellent and possibly the best I have ever had. I was unable to get the cable TV to work but that was not an issue because I prefer to use our satellite. This was our first trip to Silverton and hope to come back again. If we do we will definitely stay at Silver Summit. Parking site was on level gravel, electric was good and water was fine. This is not a resort nor does it pretend to be. Able to walk to anything in town. Excellent value with Passport America. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Plan to spend a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Jeep rental is available on site and in town. The Durango/Silverton railroad depot is within walking distance. The town and business's are quaint and you can kill a 1/2 day walking around shopping and eating. Spend more time if you visit the gold mines and museum. Lots of fishing opportunities.

This is our second year of staying here. The owners are so nice and always take the time to make your stay a pleasant one. There are a few trees scattered about and grass growing in most of the RV spaces. This park also offers Cabin rentals, Laundromat and showers. We loved the idea that this park is located on the far east of town but is still within walking (1/2 mile) distance of the downtown area. We chose this park because of the direct access to all off road riding. We have a 40' fifth wheel toy-hauler and needed somewhere we could unload the quads and ride directly from the park. This is the only RV Park in Silverton that allows that. The trail riding in this area is amazing and the summer weather temps are perfect. I would avoid this area during the holidays because the trails can get very congested. We will definitely come back to this park again. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Obviously, very beautiful surroundings, but as has been said that can be seen from anywhere in town. We came in a few minutes after closing, but the manager walked right over and opened the office for us. There normal rate was $32, but they honored our Passport American membership so the base rate was $16 + children, taxes. Sites are a little bit close together; once we got our rear slide out there was barely enough room for me to go around the back between a next door motorhome, but that was fine. They say the water pressure is EXTREMELY HIGH, but it has EXTREMELY LOW water VOLUME. It come bursting on, but then slow to a trickle - that could use some help (I would have given it a 9 if not for that). The staff was very friendly. The laundry room was very clean, neat, and modern units installed. The bathrooms were very clean. Would DEFINITELY stay again and recommend. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Park is very over-priced for the amenities provided. Had a semi-level gravel pad. There was an extra charge for children older than 2. Views were tremendous, but appear from any place in town. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

As others have said this is a nice location in Silverton with views of the Mountains and the steam train coming by and all. The staff is friendly and competent. The WI-FI works well with a meg of bandwidth. There is so much to see in this area but you really need a competent Jeep to see most of it. If you are interested in the mining history of the US, there are literally hundreds of abandon mines to visit. There are some warts though. When they water the grass with a set of sprinklers on a hose, they get your chairs soaked and your MH gets a good soaking too, with water spots. There is no warning that this is going to happen or when. They could have turned the water pressure/flow down a little and covered the grass without watering the MH and they couldn't moved the chairs. Don't expect to get the "discount" from joining CampUSA or whatever it is until October and they have a surcharge per adult, for electricity, etc. Rather expensive IMHO but it was full and you need reservations so it is priced accordingly. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice RV park. The owners were very courteous and friendly. This park is in a beautiful location in Silverton with the mountains all around you. They had nice large spaces with a grass patio for every space. There was a nice waterfall on the mountain directly in front of us for a gorgeous view from our RV. The Silverton Railroad runs right by the RV park two times a day for some great pictures with the mountains behind it. The railroad only runs during the day, so it does not disturb you at night. You can walk to where you board the train and take it down to Durango and back for some great scenery. We rented a jeep right on site from Silver Summit RV park and went out four wheeling on the mountain passes nearby. We had a great time at this park and will definitely stay at Silver Summit again when we are in the Silverton or Ouray area. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

The staff was very friendly and when coming to this area, this campground is an ideal place to stay if you are wanting to hike, or to tour the area in Jeeps. They offer Jeeps for rent so you can tour the old mining roads that are near and they also offer guided Jeep tours. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Truck Camper.

The management of this park are not honest people nor are they friendly. An unpleasant experience. I will visit Silverton again but NOT this CG. Lots of dogs and dog droppings. Hot tub still has same water as noted in previous post. They have satellite WI-FI that sometimes works. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.
