This is a nice state park on the high plains of northeastern Colorado. The park exists primarily for the reservoir, so boating and fishing are the big draws. This is a very wide open park, and it is generally windy—you can see the wind farm just north of the park. We stayed at Inlet Grove campground. There are bathhouses with showers—coin operated—3 quarters gets you a 3 minute shower and it took about 60 seconds to get hot water. The bathhouses also have laundry facilities—new machines and reasonable priced. There is intermittent cell signal (Verizon) that varies from spot to spot. OTA channels were plentiful and generally fine except during storms. Sites are packed gravel—Inlet Grove seemed pretty level compared to the campground by the marina. Sites have 30 or 50 amp, no sewer, and water spigots are situated throughout the campground. Dump station is convenient and in good shape. Sterling is about 15 minutes away and has anything you may need—groceries, Wal-Mart, fast food, restaurants—even a very nice craft brewery. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

Most of the sites have good views of lake. Some sites are very close together others are spaced out nicely. If you have a boat it would be a big plus. Lots of birds, dozens of white pelicans the most I have ever seen in one place. It is not close to anything which makes it great for star watching. Note, signage is poor so plan to drive around a bit to find your site. Dirt roads are OK so it is easy to loop around and come back to your site once you find it. Bring your boat or a friend with a boat. Binoculars for bird watching. Town of Sterling is a good 1/2 hour away but has a couple good restaurants. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

The park is in a bleak location but lots of wildlife, especially birds and deer. The pull thru sites are very hard to access; they are curved and each has one or sometimes two tight turns. Only utility is electricity. The showers didn't work well (no water pressure in women's and a flood in the men's). And you paid for the bad showers. OK place for an overnight but probably wouldn't stay again. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We overnighted here while traveling from Raton, NM to Rapid City, SD. On a Monday night on April 30 we almost had the entire place to ourselves (only one other camper present). So obviously it was very quiet during our stay. It's a beautiful location. There is no water hookup at the individual sites, but there are spigots scattered about for filling. We would love to stay here again sometime. Not having water at the site is the only reason I didn't give it a 10. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed one night passing through on the interstate. We were the only ones there. Campsites are neat and clean. Many are right on the lake shore. The lake is small. There were a lot of Jackrabbits and prairie dogs. 20 mile drive from the interstate and town. Very pretty prairie ecosystem. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

Really like this state park. We had site which overlooked the lake and had a little path that took us right to the water. Each site is electric only and has a covered picnic table and a firepit. Big shower house with a club room attached. Crowded on the weekends but by Sunday afternoon there were only three sites being used. There is a little marina store with fishing gear and minimal food so come prepared as the town is a pretty far drive. There is a second campground that we drove thru and it had only two sites being used. That side also included a swim beach and boat ramp. There is even a place to set up for stargazing (bring your own telescope). We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a great park. In the middle of nowhere, it took about 20 minutes to get to town. Very quiet. We were the only ones in the park during the week then the weekend hit. The park filled up fast. Lots of kids and it was still very quiet. A ton of walking/bike paths. The sunsets were amazing the view from all of the trails was something you don't get to see often. It was great for the dogs. They loved to try to chase the jack rabbits and the prairie dogs. If we are every in the area again we will stay here for the view and peacefulness of it. The lady at the gate wasn't very helpful or friendly at all. I think that is the only bad thing we could say about it. The price could've been lower due to only electric hookups. Site 117 was right next to the water and it was a pull through a ton of space for the dogs and maneuvering. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed our stay at Elks Campground #24. Private (for a state park) and offered a shade tree in addition to the pinic table and sun shelter. We didn't have water craft but utilized the beach for fishing and our dogs swimming. We also enjoyed the hiking trails around the lake as well as the warm showers at the end of our day. It was hot and humid so be prepared! We will be back. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This is a beautiful park and we really wanted to like it but it didn't suit our needs for an overnight stop. Instead we recommend it for those who will use the services and marina and the lake and stay for a few days. Many sites offer beautiful lake views. We saw huge jack rabbits, white pelicans, wild turkeys and a sign declaring this to be rattlesnake country. This park is quite far off the interstate. If coming from the east on the interstate take the exit for Sterling no matter what your GPS tells you. Ours took us zigzagging for miles over narrow county roads, some of them gravel for long distances. We had pre-reserved a site overlooking the lake but after a long day's drive we really wanted to be closer to the showers than to the view. However, the ranger said we could not change our site because they had many reservations. It turned out we were the only RV in the entire park for our overnight stay on May 2. Our site was not level and few appeared to be. Our motorhome was a 31 foot rental with no self-leveling or leveling blocks. Yahtzee dice rolled off the table on their own and a pocket door would not stay closed. The fridge survived okay. The sites are attractive with fire rings and sheltered picnic tables. Some are pull through and some back-ins. I believe all had electric only. There are water spigots located randomly through the park and a dump station at the entrance/exit. The centrally located bath house had three toilets and three pay showers that cost 75 cents for three minutes. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS FROM THE EAST. Signal strength fell off to zero and there were no signs to park. Exit at the town of Sterling. Then head out on CO rd 330. This takes you right to the park. Fall is not a great time to take full advantage of this park. The summer water sport possibilities are numerous. The person who checked us in was great. We stayed at the inlet grove CG for 1 night (electric only); only 1 other camper in the huge CG on a Tuesday night. There are 2 other CG's available at this huge state park. Water spigot close by, ~15 miles north of Sterling. Just follow the signs after exiting Interstate 76. The area is barren...a few trees with some grass. Probably a great recreational area if you are into watersports. Would have rated it higher if we were interested in watersports. The reservoir is used for agricultural irrigation which accounts for the low water level in August. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at the Elk Ridge campground. The sites I saw were generally not level but not extreme. The water from the hydrants tasted as if it sat in a rubber hose. We bought bottled water to drink. There is a charge for showers @75¢ for three minutes. You also need to pay an entrance fee for every day that you camp. Because of the location there is not much shade but a shade structure is provided for every campsite. The park itself is ok but geared to boating. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

YOUR GPS WILL TAKE YOU ON STRANGE PATHS TO GET TO THE PARK . Take main street through Sterling to 7th AVE (NOT 7th ST). Go north on 7th Ave to CR 46. Turn left on CR 46 and watch for signs.

The reservation system is not good. You must make reservations three days ahead or stay one day at a time. Locals make lots of reservations and never show up. Most of the campground we used had reservations starting on Thursday through the weekend. There were less than twenty sites occupied when we left on Saturday morning.

Other than those two things, everything else was very good. Wild turkeys, small black ferret like animals, prairie dogs, large white water birds we have yet to identify, beautiful sunsets and cool nights. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

The camping fee includes $7.00 park entrance fee. The CG is north of Sterling approx 12 miles. Go to Sterling and follow the paved road rather than follow the GPS recommendations which will take you on gravel roads. Sites were spread out, included a table, fire ring, and wind shelter on the west side of the sites. It was HOT during the day, but cooled off during the evening. Nice laundry next to the RR. Not many visitors during our stay. (off season) Water level was low, but I was advised that it would be filled by late fall. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We found North Sterling State Park a bit confusing because they have three campgrounds. It was unnecessary to make reservations because there were only 2-3 campers. It's 10 miles north of Sterling so there's no traffic or train noise. There are no trees on the campground so it's very barren. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.
