Wonderful campground nestled in a pine tree forest. Our gravel pull thru was extra long and level. Lots of space between sites. FHU and picnic table. No wi-fi or cable but we had no problem using our satellite. Weak ATT signal for my cell phone. Lots of room to walk the dog. Great price on propane and friendly staff. Great place to stay and visit all the area attractions. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Small but adequate commissary and exchange on base. Great visitors center (be sure to watch the film). They will be tearing down the iconic chapel in January so I am glad we visited now. The reconstruction of the chapel will take 3-5 years.

This is an Air Force FamCamp for use by military ID holders. Reservations for retirees accepted 60 days in advance, gravel sites and roads, high water pressure, less & less satellite friendly sites each year because the beautiful pine trees are flourishing. Strong Verizon signal. Park mostly full Sun-Thurs of our stay in early Aug. Park is a pleasant, place to stay for a few days and we recommend more than just a stop over. Multiple trains each day, while noticeable, were not offensive. No diesel on base. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

This is an Air Force FamCamp, so of course you must have a military ID card to use it. It is very beautiful, full of Ponderosa pines, but still just open enough for DishTV to work. The roads and sites are gravel. The sites are fairly level, with only a little leveling needed. The back-in sites are widely spaced, about 30-50 feet between sites; I didn't inspect the pull-though sites. There is no camp-wide Wi-Fi, but they rent Mi-Fi for $5/day or $25/week, and it provides a very good internet connection which I used to upload hi-resolution photos to Facebook. Didn't try streaming video on it. There are lots of places to walk your dog, but no dog park. If you want to play catch with your dog, you can do what I did, and walk them to the lasertag area. It is secluded and out of the way, but still close to the FamCamp. This is technically against the rules, but the lasertag area is heavily wooded, out of sight, mostly. The laundry is $1.50/load. There was a burn ban while we stayed here, but gas grills were allowed. I would definitely stay here again if in the area. The Academy itself it beautiful, widely spread out with miles of undeveloped forests. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

The staff was great getting us an extra night over Memorial Day weekend. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Excellent park and convenient to many towns, activities, and local attractions. Sites are fairly level dirt with gravel topping. Roads are easy to navigate pulling 40 foot fifth wheel. "Somebody" either took our after hours check in information or forgot to put it out. We just occupied and empty spot and figured it out in the morning. Staff are friendly but busy and seem to do better at returning messages rather than answering the phone. It all worked out. They say the park is open year-round with full hookup sites including freeze plugs on the water lines. If I wanted to winter in Colorado, I'd certainly consider this location. The area is suffering a server drought so be sensitive to burn issues. They do still allow camp fires in approved containers or you can rent a chimaera from them. I liked it. There are about 100 sites and it appears that all have some shade from towering pine trees. Train tracks on back side of park on which the coal trains run several times per day. They were not noisy. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Excellent campground. Full hookups. Water pressure is high. Did not use Wi-Fi but Verizon worked well. About 100 sites in large pine trees. Pull-throughs and back-ins. Plenty of room in pull-through for our 34' fifth wheel. Generally pretty quiet except loud train whistles on occasion reminding me of the movie "My Cousin Vinny" at 0430 in the morning. Park requires military association or military sponsor. Was told that long term residents were limited to one month stays during the summer when camp is normally full. Advance reservations pretty essential during summer. A pretty campground in the pines... highly recommended for those that can tolerate the loud train whistles. I'll stay there again. Tips for other Campers:

USAFA North gate is closest to campground (exit 156 off I-25). Commissary and BX not far away but too far to walk. Stop in Outdoor Rec near the BX to get base hiking maps. For those looking for an extreme hike visit "the incline" in nearby Manitou Springs where Olympic caliber athletes often work out. Colorado Springs is home to USOC.

Nice, heavily treed campgrounds, both east and west sides. Pretty, but not many sites accommodate a dish for TV reception. Wifi boxes can be rented for $5 per day, but have a very finite amount of data and will stop working. This would have been a fine enough stay if the staff weren't so horrible. Both the woman I paid with and the older man I encountered a couple other times were abrupt, loud-speaking and downright rude. When I went to the office to rent a Wifi box during the already limited office hours, the woman yelled from the door that she was busy doing paperwork and to come back later. On another day I tried to get propane, and was dismissed again. Upon coming back a short time later, the man was caught trying to have the propane guy hide so he wouldn't have to help us. Wow. I'll never go back. It doesn't cost anything to extend friendly customer service, but I guess that's not a priority here, at least with these two. Oh, and they need to keep the fresh dog bags filled and receptacles emptied. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

One of the better Military RV Parks (FamCamps). I've stayed here before and will again. They are very busy and don't often answer the phone but they do call back. Reservations far in advance are encouraged. One of the few FamCamps that allow Snow Birds, other times of the year stay limits are imposed. We were graciously greeted with professionalism, attitudes and creativeness. The park was very clean, quite and had great appeal. Only problem was those darn trains and occasional people exceeding the speed limit of 5 mph. We will definently be going back possibly yet this year. Bathrooms need some one to clean. The are pretty dirty. They do dump the trash but that is all. The campgrounds are very nice and appealing. Also there are no doggie bags and bag holders are empty. It was better when I was here in Sept 2015. I'm surprised how things have changed. We are wrapping up our second month before heading South for the winter. We have really enjoyed our stay here! The sites are spacious, and the Famcamp is well maintained. All of the sites are treed, but we didn't have any problems getting satellite TV with our portable dish. However, I'm sure that's not the case with all sites. There are train tracks around 150 yards East of the Famcamp, and trains are running at all hours. You will need a pressure regulator to use the water at the sites. In addition, there is a graded crossing around 1/10 mile North of the Famcamp, so Northbound trains are blowing their horn pretty much directly behind the Famcamp. The Western-most sites are a bit quieter from the trains, but as they are near the entrance, receive more road traffic, and therefore more dust. The picnic area adjacent to the Famcamp has a nice playground, and there are many areas to hike. In addition, the Academy's two golf courses are just a few minutes away from the Famcamp. They do have limited free WiFi at the office and the two bathhouses, or you can rent a Jetpack at the office. Should you need RV supplies while staying here, there is a Walmart a couple of miles North of the AF Academy North gate. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Another excellent campground. I timed it just right, left the morning of the Air Force - Navy football game. Pure traffic mayhem from noon on. Lot's of great shade, makes a portable satellite antenna almost required. The day I arrived they were expecting 30 + snow birds to come in for the winter, summer is limited stay. Plenty of room for the MH and toad. All the base amenities are available, gym, shopping, eating, etc. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground with spacious sites set amount the trees but it has some flaws. There is no WiFi at the campground. You can purchase a hotspot for $25 for 7 days or you can go by one of the restroom buildings. If you have a satellite dish, you are very limited in the sites you can use. I asked for a satellite friendly site and they did not give me one. We were lucky and were able to find a spot to put our external antenna. If you have a dish on the roof, you need to get one of the few sites that will work. The fellow at the desk had a strange attitude - not sure if it was just his personality - but he was not the type of person that should be working at the front desk. The shower was not cleaned properly the 10 days were there. The same hair was tangled in the drain the whole time. If you do not have a well insulated RV and are sensitive to noise, you are not going to like the trains that are constantly going though. They did not bother us. Going through the gate is a challenge for a longer coach but it is doable. They have tight curves that required that we drive on the slanted curbs. On the plus side, the sites are spacious and in a beautiful setting. They are level. Very close by, there was a running/biking/walking trail that goes for about 14 miles. It goes through the woods and is just a beautiful place to go. Right outside the south gate are ponds and there is a another long trail. There are lots of great places to walk the dog. The Academy grounds are beautiful. We would go there again. We camped at Peregrine Pines FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
