This is the 47th park we have visited this year. It is not a site in a pasture nor an RV Resort as found in the Southwest. This park is mainly a seasonal park and it appears there may be a number of permanent residents. The road and sites are gravel, with lots of shade trees. Our site (21) was not level, but others appeared to be. Good space between sites. The WiFi was strong and digital over-the-air TV signals were good. We couldn't get a satellite signal (we have a roof mounted unit). Cell service was good (Verizon). The park is quiet. The laundry room only has two washers/dryers resulting in wait times. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Overall a basic campground that served our needs. We would stay again. - SKMO
Sep 2011 - $42.00
This campground is terrible, very poorly maintained. From the entrance road which needed serious upgrading to the bathhouse, everything was in serious need of attention. The bathhouse was poorly maintained, three toilet stalls in Womens side, only one in working condition. It was dirty the entire time. The grounds were not well kept and the staff were not pleasant. We were actually repulsed by this campground and would suggest it be avoided at all costs! - eastman
Jun 2011 - $45.00
This place was poorly maintained. The restrooms are filthy. The roads are full of large potholes. There are a lot of trees overhanging the road. Very dusty as some of the perm. campers "keep the road hot" constantly driving to the trash can etc. It is very overpriced for the money. Take my advice and keep going! - crackers

This campground is located at Lake Compounce amusement park and it features cabins, teepees, a tenting area, and, of course, a large RV area. The campsites are laid out with water-electric hookups located in a shared grassy area on the driver's side of the sites. If the place is full, there will be a shared front yard between campers as well. Most people, I think, come to spend a few days at the amusement park. There's even a shuttle operating from the campground to the main gate of the park. The campground is about 10 minutes from I84 and the campsites are all pull-through, making it a handy place for an overnight stay. The sites are all water/electric (30/50 amp), no sewer. Individual shower rooms are available. There is campground WiFi - ours got slower as the evening progressed. There's a nearby power plant that can be heard non-stop in the near distance. I had a strong 4G signal and, since the campsites are pretty much out in the open, satellite TV is no problem. The campground has a play area, but the main recreation is the amusement park. - nazpaz

Big rig friendly, large gravel sites, easy access in and out. We are two old people looking for safe places to overnight. This park was quiet and safe. Perfect stop for us. No sewer but it did have a convenient dump station. - Lama79
Jul 2017 - $60.00
This is a tricky review for me to write. Did we enjoy our stay? Yes, for the most part. Would we stay again? No. Here are the pros and cons of our visit. PROS: Easy entrance and friendly staff, we received our requested site, all pull through RV sites, level sites, clean bathrooms/showers, beautiful store/office, shuttle service to the amusement park, discounted tickets to Lake Compounce, convenient to grocery store and interstate CONS: Hot, dry sites with no shade (newly planted trees not large enough yet), W/E only-no sewer, limited amenities (they need a pool), not much to do at campground for older kids and adults, not enough space between sites, garbage truck coming through at 7 am, constant 24/hr droning of power plant and horrible sporadic odors from same. This park has a ton of potential and I don't think they're done with it yet. The cabins and teepees seem very popular and looked great. The tenting area is a bit tight but was well maintained. A staff member did tell us that there are rumors of a pool for next year. However, not sure what, if anything, they can do about a 650-ton a day solid waste incinerator for a neighbor. And frankly, that is a deal breaker for us. The constant sound and frequent odor were simply intolerable for us. We can't go back because of that. Too bad. - BDD

This is a mostly seasonal park with many old run-down units. The access roads within the park are in awful shape with potholes and overhanging branches. They need to do better with making people pick up after their dogs. Many remains lying about. You must travel through several residential neighborhoods before reaching park. The literature says it is big rig friendly, but we do not agree. We will not stay here again. - birdlady4810

This campground has definitely changed for the better since the last review that was left in 2003. My husband and I (and our cats) really enjoyed this campground and we highly recommend it. We've been to many campgrounds and this is one of our favorites. It is in a very nice neighborhood in Tolland, CT. We ended up staying for much longer than we had originally planned. When you first pull into the campground the sites are out of view. Beyond the office you will drive down a lovely pine tree-lined road beside a small lake- beautiful setting. One of the owners was frequently, deligently attending to the upkeep of this lake (which allows swimming). There is a great selection of wooded or open sites. For the children there is ball field, playground, rec hall (with video games, pool tables and more) and the lake. They also have propane available and a small general store. Furthermore, the restrooms and grounds were always clean. We saw a maintenance man at the restrooms everyday as well as someone attending to the grounds. The staff and owners were so friendly. They truly went above and beyond- great people. Definitely give this one a try! - bandh

I agree with the previous writer that this place is a hidden gem. I would love to give it a 7 or even 8 except for one thing. The electrical service is virtually non-existent. Maximum voltage is about 100 volts which allows you to operate a fan and a light bulb. If you can come and enjoy the view with open windows and no electricity, this is an adequate location. The staff is friendly but they are doing the best with what they have. - Charisma1965
Sep 2010 - $22.00
This campground is in a working riverside marina. You'll actually drive through the boatyard to get to the campground. It's a hidden gem, hardly anyone seems to know about this place. Half the sites are right next to the river, and the other half are just a short distance around the campground loop, so everyone gets a water view. Sites are mostly grassy, with some concrete pads. No sewer hookups and the big disadvantage of this place is no dump station. During Mon-Fri, you can go to the nearby Municipal Water Treatment plant and dump there for free (about 2 miles away). Otherwise you're on your own. There is just one shower stall and two bathrooms (separate male/female) at the office building. This is a bit of a walk from the campground, not convenient. Also, it would be tough to get a clear sky shot for satellite TV. These disadvantages probably help keep the crowds away. When we visited in September we were the only camper on site during our entire week's stay. At night it is very quiet. By day you might hear a little work going on at the boatyard, but nothing awful. Overall, it's a nice spot to stay if you don't mind the minimal plumbing. - silvertube

Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 9 nights in a site for big rigs, site G7. The Good.... If you desire privacy, request a site in an area (for example area G) with the full time residents as these sites are large and offer lots of privacy from your neighbor. The residents occupy most of the sites here so this is a very quiet park when summer ends. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk. The laundry facility is clean and equipped with modern washers and dryers. There's even a wall mounted TV to watch! The Bad..... If the office gives you a site in the area with the overnighter's the sites offer no privacy and no shade trees. In the full-timer areas satellite reception is doubtful due to the amount of trees. Not sure about Satellite reception in the overnight sites, but there's certainly no immediate trees to interfere. We walked the entire park and noticed that almost every overnight site was not level, lacked gravel, and most were located on grass pads. The sites in our area (G) were also not level...all tires on the drivers-side of our coach were off the ground, plus it was a mud-pit because it lacked gravel. Big coaches need a gravel pad and this park lacks gravel on the pads. Definitely would be a big improvement if gravel was added to the sites. Is it that hard to put a little gravel down on the dirt? This park has a third party (FastWaveNetwork) that offers wifi.... but it's garbage. We paid $8 per-day for the streaming package. Half the time it didn't work, also couldn't view an entire show without it pausing 3 to 6 times. With our Wifi-Ranger there was no way to achieve direct line-of-sight to the source due to the amount of trees. The office did tell us the third party was having a problem with their equipment however NINE days is not acceptable. Don't know how streaming works in the overnight sites. Bottom-line; if you're looking to stay at a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax... go here. - JDC10

This place is a dump. They placed us in the "T" section, which is for big rigs. The site was basically a lumpy, unlevel piece of grass that our 40 foot MH could not fit into. The roads are bumpy, rocky, narrow and difficult to navigate. The park is full of run down trailers, occupied by questionable looking people. We got a refund and left. - firsttimefulltimer

Stayed here for 7 days on our way to NJ. Stayed up in T area. Great grass site, lots of room & quiet even on a weekend. Close to a nice lake area and restaurants. - lv ron

Terrible experience. They put us in the grass at the back of the campground with old abandoned trailers. Booked a pull thru 6 months prior. No sewer hookup. Road back to area was rugged with big potholes. Overall worst campground we have ever been in. - redhead3416
Aug 2017 - $45.00
The campground was packed. Our site was sufficient. Flat and pea gravel. The bathrooms were very clean. We had grey water only. Dump station was fine in the end. We had 25+ channels over air. No CTV. Verizon was ok, 2 bars. The roads are a little bumpy in the park. Worked for us 2 adults 2 kiddos 9,11! - stanner17

Older park, mostly dirt roads with pot holes. Sites are fairly level, grass with picnic table and fire ring. A lot of seasonal campers. Poor cell service (Sprint) and only about 5 tv channels. Utilities okay 30 amp, good water pressure and sewer. Grass long in fenced dog park. - philandterri35

This was the last leg of our New England trip. I reserved our site for a (5) night stay. We wanted to add an additional day at the beginning of our stay here. We called a day in advance of the additional day and asked if we could have the same site as our (5) night stay so we wouldn't have to move. They confirmed we could have the same site and add the additional day. The gate closes at 4:00 PM daily and we were not going to arrive until after 4:00 so they said our gate key and map would be in a box outside the office. We arrived late and found the map and key but the site number was different than what they had confirmed to us over a month back. We thought it was a mistake and went to the original site. It was empty so we set up there. In the morning I went to make sure they knew we were there and was told we were in the wrong spot. They said the map showed this. But they had already confirmed by phone we could have our original spot and never mentioned they were moving us. The young girls working the desk finally agreed that I could stay in our spot, but with no apology and with plenty of attitude. The spot was extremely difficult to get to with untrimmed trees, stumps, and large rocks along the path. The site was muddy. There was no way to hook up both electrical and water connections because they were too far apart from each other. Had to purchase an additional water hose the next day. Most of the sites had full-timers on them and were not kept clean or neat. The site to our right had a broke down Dodge pickup with the bed filled with old tires, bumpers, etc. There were other tires and miscellaneous junk items spread over their site. This was typical of most of the sites, with only a small number of occupants that took any pride in how their site looked. Fire wood was $8 a pack compared to $4 or $5 anywhere else in the towns close by. On Saturday night there was live music that could be heard everywhere in the camp. It went from 8 PM to 10 PM. Don't camp here. - germaneighter

White Pines has a friendly helpful staff that makes you feel welcome from the minute you meet them. Keep in mind, this is a real Campground, not an RV resort. The roads are hilly and a little bumpy, but the sites are wooded and private, while being on the larger size. The pool is amazing and always spotless. They added a dog park this year that our pups loved. (it's not big, but it was a lot of fun for the dogs). I believe owning a campground is a lot of work for not a lot of pay out. Of course there are full timers who have been there a long time, and some of them look a little run down or sloppy. But to be honest, when I go camping, I go for me. I don't actually pay much attention to what others do. We camp here 4 to 5 times a year! And we look forward to it every time! - Jesbish

A very nice, well maintained campground. We had an electrical power issue which maintenance addressed immediately and corrected with no further issues. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. All of the buildings are clean as is the pool area. They have many scheduled and supervised activities for the guests. Keep up the good work! - phoebedixie

Owner is super sweet! There is a ton of stuff to do there! There is a playground, a pool, a pond you can swim and fish in, paddle boat, game room. The spots were spacious. Defiantly would recommend! - M holmea

This park leaves a lot to be desired. The lady in the office was helpful & pleasant & they have a lot of amenities. But our site was horribly unlevel. We only had water & electricity (30 amps) with no sewer - so very expensive for what you got. No cable, couldn't get our satellite to work. It had been raining & was pretty muddy too. We probably wouldn't stay here again unless it was for only 1 night & we were certain to get a more level site. - K Martin

This campground has seen better days. Everything felt old and crumbling. Friendly staff. Lots of permanent sites, so it must be friendly. But certainly lacking in upkeep. - John and Judy Hill

Family owned destination park in the foothills of the Berkshires. Friendly and helpful owner and staff. Many family activities each weekend. Nice pool with two adult swim hours. Fishing ponds. Mostly seasonal campers but we stayed for the month in an FHU site with over the air TV and free wifi access. Gravel roads in the park. The FHU sites are reasonably level with gravel, have a stone-ringed fire pit, and are tree-shaded. - Pankie
Jun 2018 - $56.00
Terrible roads for a big Motorhome. There are other roads but, when I asked at the desk, I was told nope that's the only way! Laundry room had 1 washer working and one dryer that did not work. So we had clothes lying all over the rig for two days drying! Interior roads have terrible pot holes and ruts. Pull thru with a 40' MH and a 16' trailer was a challenge. Nice enough park (once you get there) and the pool was awesome. Looks as if, at one time, it was wonderful but we didn't find anyone who really seemed to care. Won't return. - Road Dawg
Sep 2017 - $43.00
The campground was clean. It had ponds to walk around and cabins to rent. The pool was closed but they had a game room, laundry room and other kid play areas. We had lots of shade. We have a 32' travel trailer and our site was not easy to back into or level. - Jeri Gluck

Very nice campground. Bathroom and showers were very very clean. Small campground with a lot of hiking near by. Sites were just big enough for tent or small camper, picnic table, and car. Ranger on first shift has been known to go through campers trash. Disturbing I know but ignore him, dispose of your own trash, and have fun. - stemer2003
