If you are coming in east on Hwy 82 across the Connecticut River and are in a big rig - Do Not take Ray Hill Rd as our GPS suggested. It is a narrow road with a steep incline and a number of curves. Keep going to 82/151 and then head south to the campground. This is a large campground. A number of the sites are permanent but very well kept up. Check in was fast and friendly. You will need to pay $10 for the gate key - you get your money back when you turn it back in. If you are in a Class A or C you may need to get out of the vehicle to use the gate key. We were in Site 43, a back in with room to store the tow-dolly. It is grass with a small patch of cement to park the RV on. They are nice and wide and level. We had electric (50amp) and water only with a grey water dumping. We had never used this type of system before, even after staying in 100's of campgrounds across the county, so we were not familiar with how it worked. It would be helpful at check in if they ask if you know about it. You need a special hose and connection piece, which they sell in their store, but we didn't know we needed it till we started to set up. Hubby went and bought the hose, then discovered he needed the connect so he had to go back to the store to get that. All could have been avoided if they had asked us if we were familiar with it. Once set up, it worked great. There is a pool, playground, ball field, game room, putt-putt golf, a number of stocked ponds and plenty of organized activities. The laundry and bathroom were clean. WiFi was good and Verizon signal was strong. The park is quiet and well maintained. We stayed June 25 - July 5, 2018 and paid $39.70 a night with a combination of Passport America Discount and their weekly rate. - BarrettsHappyTrails
Aug 2017 - $25.00
This was too expensive without a full hook up. The water and electric was at the rear of the site and needed extra hoses. There was no wifi at site and was marginal in the office. the dump station is at the rear of the park with very tight turns and low hanging branches with road signs at each tight turn. - Al and Anne-Marie
Jun 2017 - $24.00
Pulling into the park, we thought "Wow!" This is going to be great. After checking in, giving the girl the dimensions of our RV, we went to our site. It was a back in. Great for a 28' or less. We have a 36'. No way would we fit in this spot. Went to the office to let them know the site was way to small. They told us to find a spot to our liking and let them know which one. There was on open grass field with trees and pull thrus. Nope. Can't use those. As those are for "seasonal" Campers. Hmmmm.. Looking around, there seemed to be A LOT of seasonal or stationary campers. We finally found a spot that we struggled with to level out. Even then we weren't quite level. We actually witnessed someone in a Fifth Wheel struggle for almost an hour to get into his site. This park definitely caters to the summer family vacationers. - StephanieBekker

Weekenders and long term campers mixed together. There is some breathing room between sites. Many outdoor activities available. Simple and clean bathhouses. We stayed overnight. Our pull through site was not level but there were some that were gravel and flat, easier to get in and out. Nice fire rings. - car2ner
Aug 2018 - $38.00
Office staff was very accommodating and we were given a choice of sites. The park is great for families, and there were no shortage of those. Roads are gravel and easy to navigate. Sites are gravel, and were also a bit muddy from recent rains. No issues with utilities and our site was open enough to get satellite. There was a patio, picnic table and fire pit. We would stay here again. - Vicki K

Good site. Level. All utilities work. Good activities for kids. Nice pond. Quiet at night. - stanner17

We stayed at this campground for a few days over Columbus weekend. Our site was gravel but we sunk in and had to relevel twice. They did get an unusually large amount of rain a couple of days prior to our stay, so that probably contributed to the issue. We very much enjoyed our stay and even got a fireside story from one if the hosts. We would definately stay here again. - Travelindog

We stayed at GrandView for 12 days in an RV. It is a beautiful campground in a lovely little CT town. There are spacious sites for tents, RVs and also many cabins. The couple that runs the campground is friendly, gracious and very helpful. They take pride in the upkeep and treat everyone like family. The 50 amp spaces were in the open, so no shade. But, the beautiful campground makes up for it. They have a nice pool, a game room, a loft with board games, etc. The only amenity we missed was a laundry. We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area. - GranNan06

This campground had two things going for it. The beach and the bike trail. However, after we got set up we took the dog for a walk and learned that pets were not allowed. We asked for a refund and were told they could not refund. There were many sites with standing water and mud going into them. We pulled out early and lost one nights stay. We will never return. - mojomoho

Nice Large State Beach Campground with lots of flat bike riding and walks. Mix of shaded and open sites, most nice and level. Campground and park are very large and could use a couple more playscapes, maybe one for each camping loop. Facilities are clean, friendly staffs and well maintained. Beach was rebuilt last fall and sand isn't as nice as it used to be. Lots of broken shells etc, it will take time for Mother Nature to sift through the new beach. - Nausett
May 2018 - $35.00
We were so pleasantly surprised when we pulled in to this campground. Well organized, although busy, check in. Wide, spacious sites in organized loops, each with its own bathhouse(s), dishwashing station, potable water spigot, and dumpsters. Some shaded sites available, other sites sunny. Sites all seemed to be fairly level. The campground was clean, clean, clean! Lots of tenters and family groups during the holiday weekend, all having a great time. Staff/security presence was noticed but not intrusive. Hookups only available at the Beach Road area, we stayed at a dry site and fully enjoyed it. Easy, pretty walk or bike ride to the beach. Camp store nicely stocked and hosted by friendly, helpful staff. Oddly windy enough each morning and evening to close our awning for a few hours, but then we were able to re-open it. Our picnic table and others in our loop were in need of replacement but it looked like they were in the process of replacing them throughout the park. Bring your own off the ground firepit or you can rent one from the camp store. Four or five dump stations but we still had to wait at check out which is typical for a busy, large campground. We can't wait to book here again! Loved it! - BDD

Very rustic and old. Few amenities and services. Owner hovers like a hawk. Hilly, dirt pads. No cable. There are much better values in CT. - Delpell
Oct 2015 - $40.00
We needed a place in the Hartford area and even tho this one was due to close Oct. 1 she welcomed us with warm hospitality. The grounds are spacious and beautiful - we enjoyed seeing the Fall colors. The laundry is more than reasonable. It looks rustic, but the machines do the job. Because it was the end of the season, there were only two other families - nice and quiet. The owner referred us to a few places for meals and was attentive to anything we needed. Higganum is beautiful - out of the way but worth the trip. - LFClary
Aug 2015 - $40.00
This is a quiet park in a rural wooded/farmland setting. Our site was reasonably level but required a couple boards under the real wheels to level. Our site had 50 amp electrical, water, and sewer. The water pressure was a little low. Mid-week, the campground was not very busy. Most of the other occupied sites were seasonal rentals. Spoke with the gentleman across from us who was very friendly and spends every summer here to be near his family. He said most of the time the campground is very quiet. There are no planned activities (which is fine with us). There is a pool but we never saw anyone using it. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They frequently circulated through the campground to check on status but were not intrusive. Getting to the campground from I-95 in a big rig was a little challenging. The Little City Road is narrow and winding with many rocks and trees on the sides of the roads. At least the speed limit is 25 mph and there was not much traffic.
We were in the area visiting family and if we return to the area I would be happy to stay again. - Randy & Sharon

I was surprised to read the review that said this CG isn't good for motorhomes. We have a 40' motorhome and we pull a 29' enclosed utility trailer. We are also in spot 191 and we have ample room. We didn't have any problem maneuvering through the park. As for the dust, we expect that at most parks that don't have concrete and grass. I'd rather have dust than the sand. We didn't have any problem with the electric. The only reason they didn't get a 10 is not having sewer. But they did come and empty our tanks for free. We would stay here again. Staff is very friendly. - sdhorses
Jul 2016 - $48.00
Stayed 4 nights in our motorhome. CG not set up for motorhomes. Sites all gravel so dusty. Electrical service fluctuated. Hook-ups do not include black water drain, must go outside CG to location next door to drain tanks. Garden hose drain provided for gray water. Lots of activities for kids. Forced to sign indemnity waiver releasing CG from liability even in cases of gross negligence by CG. - Al Z
Aug 2015 - $45.00
Thirty years of camping - rate this A+! Grounds & pools well maintained, restrooms spotless. Quiet friendly campground. Grounds, pools, activities were easily accessible to our special needs grandson. Owners very accomodating. Lots of activities for kids and adults. Snack/ice cream bar a hit! Already planning to go back next summer. - Ontheroadagain 3

Jul 2018 - $40.00
I'm confused by the low rating here. We had a delightful stay at this KOA. The staff was beyond helpful and set us up with our KOA membership. The restrooms were clean, the site was level and we had the greatest fire pit of all time! One of the neighbors on a permanent site stopped over to chat, as did one of the other workers who we absolutely loved! We had such a good time around the campfire that night!! The next morning I felt like I was leaving family and they didn't make us feel at all rushed out, but chatted and shared places to visit and good roads for traveling. We were hoping to visit one of their other KOA campgrounds, but our travels took us in another direction. I would not hesitate to stay at this KOA again. - sssccckkk1952
Sep 2017 - $42.00
I am very surprised that KOA has allowed the campground to affiliate. It is filled with many unused, rotting and dilapidated RVs. The person in charge often sits in the window of the office with a radar gun. If a vehicle is going over 5mph immediately upon entry to the park off the highway, she screeches like a banshee at the driver at the top of her substantial lungs! She is inhospitable, impolite and dour. Be careful when booking! Their sites have electric and water (which throughout our stay ran the color of urine) and grey-water only onsite dumps. They will pump your black water for an additional $12 per pump. Very little sunlight reaches the floor of the park, and it is located immediately next to a salvage operation - noisy! There are two redeeming qualities: it is across the street from the state park with nice hiking trails, and most of its employees are polite. If I were to stay in the area again (probably), I will certainly look for a different campsite. For the price, this one is a BUST! - jamesboardman
Jul 2017 - $35.00
We stayed one night on our way home and this is an older park that was not well maintained but we knew this. This park is becoming a KOA and they are trying very hard to clean it up, service was very good and friendly plus the site was level. We felt bad for the maintenance people working in 90+ degree heat We will go back to see how they have improved. - toytowner

Very clean park with good size sites. Large field with nice playground. Pool was nice as was lake for swimming. The camp store was also a hit with kids. The ice cream was awesome! Utilities worked great but in a bizarre place. Way up front.(site 10) They loaned us a cord, but we had to buy a hose..50' $30. - stanner17
Jun 2013 - $50.00
Great spot (#9), right on the lake so we could fish right from our site. Staff was super friendly, key card access, great country store and beach. Would have liked full sewer hookup at the site, but I understand being on the water gravity is working against you. Lots of activities for our boys, almost like a summer camp. Highly recommend going. Bring your kayak and fishing pole! - Pshaine
Aug 2010 - $45.00
Very expensive CG, especially with no sewer hook-up and marginal 30 amp electricity. Do have gray water hook-up. Always walk and check out your site before bringing a rig in. Very few are level enough or large enough for Big Rigs. Even 5th wheels need to do a lot of work to get level. Interior roads poorly maintained and become streams in heavy rain. Staff friendly and helpful, but always a struggle to get a site that works for 40' motor home. They don't allow you to reserve a specific site. Bathrooms and lake area extremely clean and neat. No cable TV, but can get local TV with antenna. Verizon cell and air card work well. Lots of activities in season. Some seasonal sites are not well maintained. Unfortunately not anything better in the area. - TravelingBaggs

The sites are fairly close together and are gravel with grassy weeds growing up in each spot, and there were pot holes and some were filled and some were not. The wifi was barely there, even though they park was not full. They charged extra for dogs, and require a deposit for their gate cards that we had to hand deliver late our last night so we could get the $10 deposit back. - Vipermanden
Jun 2018 - $80.00
This is a beautiful park with well maintained grounds. The roads are fine crushed gravel but very flat. The sites are well spaced and level. It's very easy to navigate with good roads into the park off the highway and big rig friendly inside of the park. The bathrooms are very clean. I didn't use the showers. 50 amp strong power, good cable channels and fairly usable WiFi although it did cut in and out on occasion. There have a nice laundry room here and some activities like a pool and game room. This isn't full of kid activities so if you're looking for a kid park this isn't it. It's very quiet and ralaxing. The staff was friendly on check in as were the other campers. Cell data speeds are excellent with both Verizon and ATT at 40 d/l. There's tons of things to do in the area. Mystic is a great town to shop and dine in and there are state parks with hiking nearby. Gillette castle is also cool. Everything you could need is easily accessible. - Jessie1975
May 2018 - $65.00
I have been coming here for 15 years and I have enjoyed every trip I have taken here! Every time we arrive at the park we are greeted sincerely by the owner. She truly is a great business owner who puts her customers' priorities before anything else. Every site in the park is large and spacious, has a picnic table, fire-pit and a grassy area to relax in the sun. I highly recommend this park to anyone looking for a high class resort for a reasonable price. Aces High RV Park never disappoints :) - Rogerd4568

Jun 2017 - $20.00
Experience was good during our stay at Rocky Neck. The grounds are beautiful, and the ability to walk around the park on the hiking trails or walk down to the beach is a great aspect. I was a little upset to see that the grass was not cut recently (looked overgrown and uncared for) and although the abundance of trees around the camping areas was quite nice, they were not maintained/trimmed to the point where I needed my girlfriend to spot the fifth wheel trailer as I zigzagged down the roads to avoid taking my AC units off my roof or gouging the sized of my camper. The site I initially booked was NOT able to fit my camper as it was described, there was a large cedar tree with branches protruding into the site approximately 75%. Luckily, with one phone call to the front camping office, they were able to switch us to another nearby site. Being that Rocky Neck is a CT State Park, they offer a dump station on site, which was not usable during my stay due to a large branch hanging well over the entry road to the dump station. I would not have been able to get my truck through, let along my camper. My one word of caution to people looking to stay at Rocky Neck State Park is to be aware and careful of the untrimmed trees as I mentioned before. But please do not take my review as a "bad time" while camping here. We both loved the scenery and location, and will be looking to come back, barring the need for the park service to maintain the grounds a bit more first. - Ripley21
Aug 2012 - $30.00
We have gone to this campground for a couple years and plan to go for at least one weekend a year. The beach has two sides, one side is deeper than the other side which was great for the kids. - microjenn79
May 2012 - $33.00
This is right off I-95 between New Haven and New London and is situated on the Long Island Sound. Easy off and on. We camped here for one night since we were so close to home in RI. There are 160 wooded and open sites located in five sites. We were in Osprey loop and it was very nice. There were only 11 other sites taken because it was during the week. The campground had been full for the holiday weekend before. Our site was well shaded. You can ride bikes down to the beach and along the refuge - interesting. It cost us $33 because we were from out of state - expensive for dry camping. They also charge you $3.00 for a reservation fee even if you don't make a reservation. There is concession, dump station, showers, salt water fishing and swimming. No pets are allowed. There was an incident during the evening with one of the campers about ten sites away from us and the rangers, local and state police came quickly and removed the person camping. I think he had too much of something! Leaving the next morning the check in lady says nothing like that ever happens here. I was impressed how they handled the problem and how quickly it was resolved. - gsnakehill
