I agree with the previous writer that this place is a hidden gem. I would love to give it a 7 or even 8 except for one thing. The electrical service is virtually non-existent. Maximum voltage is about 100 volts which allows you to operate a fan and a light bulb. If you can come and enjoy the view with open windows and no electricity, this is an adequate location. The staff is friendly but they are doing the best with what they have. - Charisma1965

This campground is in a working riverside marina. You'll actually drive through the boatyard to get to the campground. It's a hidden gem, hardly anyone seems to know about this place. Half the sites are right next to the river, and the other half are just a short distance around the campground loop, so everyone gets a water view. Sites are mostly grassy, with some concrete pads. No sewer hookups and the big disadvantage of this place is no dump station. During Mon-Fri, you can go to the nearby Municipal Water Treatment plant and dump there for free (about 2 miles away). Otherwise you're on your own. There is just one shower stall and two bathrooms (separate male/female) at the office building. This is a bit of a walk from the campground, not convenient. Also, it would be tough to get a clear sky shot for satellite TV. These disadvantages probably help keep the crowds away. When we visited in September we were the only camper on site during our entire week's stay. At night it is very quiet. By day you might hear a little work going on at the boatyard, but nothing awful. Overall, it's a nice spot to stay if you don't mind the minimal plumbing. - silvertube

Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 9 nights in a site for big rigs, site G7. The Good.... If you desire privacy, request a site in an area (for example area G) with the full time residents as these sites are large and offer lots of privacy from your neighbor. The residents occupy most of the sites here so this is a very quiet park when summer ends. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk. The laundry facility is clean and equipped with modern washers and dryers. There's even a wall mounted TV to watch! The Bad..... If the office gives you a site in the area with the overnighter's the sites offer no privacy and no shade trees. In the full-timer areas satellite reception is doubtful due to the amount of trees. Not sure about Satellite reception in the overnight sites, but there's certainly no immediate trees to interfere. We walked the entire park and noticed that almost every overnight site was not level, lacked gravel, and most were located on grass pads. The sites in our area (G) were also not level...all tires on the drivers-side of our coach were off the ground, plus it was a mud-pit because it lacked gravel. Big coaches need a gravel pad and this park lacks gravel on the pads. Definitely would be a big improvement if gravel was added to the sites. Is it that hard to put a little gravel down on the dirt? This park has a third party (FastWaveNetwork) that offers wifi.... but it's garbage. We paid $8 per-day for the streaming package. Half the time it didn't work, also couldn't view an entire show without it pausing 3 to 6 times. With our Wifi-Ranger there was no way to achieve direct line-of-sight to the source due to the amount of trees. The office did tell us the third party was having a problem with their equipment however NINE days is not acceptable. Don't know how streaming works in the overnight sites. Bottom-line; if you're looking to stay at a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax... go here. - JDC10

This place is a dump. They placed us in the "T" section, which is for big rigs. The site was basically a lumpy, unlevel piece of grass that our 40 foot MH could not fit into. The roads are bumpy, rocky, narrow and difficult to navigate. The park is full of run down trailers, occupied by questionable looking people. We got a refund and left. - firsttimefulltimer

Stayed here for 7 days on our way to NJ. Stayed up in T area. Great grass site, lots of room & quiet even on a weekend. Close to a nice lake area and restaurants. - lv ron

This campground is located at Lake Compounce amusement park and it features cabins, teepees, a tenting area, and, of course, a large RV area. The campsites are laid out with water-electric hookups located in a shared grassy area on the driver's side of the sites. If the place is full, there will be a shared front yard between campers as well. Most people, I think, come to spend a few days at the amusement park. There's even a shuttle operating from the campground to the main gate of the park. The campground is about 10 minutes from I84 and the campsites are all pull-through, making it a handy place for an overnight stay. The sites are all water/electric (30/50 amp), no sewer. Individual shower rooms are available. There is campground WiFi - ours got slower as the evening progressed. There's a nearby power plant that can be heard non-stop in the near distance. I had a strong 4G signal and, since the campsites are pretty much out in the open, satellite TV is no problem. The campground has a play area, but the main recreation is the amusement park. - nazpaz
Oct 2017 - $28.00
Big rig friendly, large gravel sites, easy access in and out. We are two old people looking for safe places to overnight. This park was quiet and safe. Perfect stop for us. No sewer but it did have a convenient dump station. - Lama79
Jul 2017 - $60.00
This is a tricky review for me to write. Did we enjoy our stay? Yes, for the most part. Would we stay again? No. Here are the pros and cons of our visit. PROS: Easy entrance and friendly staff, we received our requested site, all pull through RV sites, level sites, clean bathrooms/showers, beautiful store/office, shuttle service to the amusement park, discounted tickets to Lake Compounce, convenient to grocery store and interstate CONS: Hot, dry sites with no shade (newly planted trees not large enough yet), W/E only-no sewer, limited amenities (they need a pool), not much to do at campground for older kids and adults, not enough space between sites, garbage truck coming through at 7 am, constant 24/hr droning of power plant and horrible sporadic odors from same. This park has a ton of potential and I don't think they're done with it yet. The cabins and teepees seem very popular and looked great. The tenting area is a bit tight but was well maintained. A staff member did tell us that there are rumors of a pool for next year. However, not sure what, if anything, they can do about a 650-ton a day solid waste incinerator for a neighbor. And frankly, that is a deal breaker for us. The constant sound and frequent odor were simply intolerable for us. We can't go back because of that. Too bad. - BDD

Owner is super sweet! There is a ton of stuff to do there! There is a playground, a pool, a pond you can swim and fish in, paddle boat, game room. The spots were spacious. Defiantly would recommend! - M holmea

This park leaves a lot to be desired. The lady in the office was helpful & pleasant & they have a lot of amenities. But our site was horribly unlevel. We only had water & electricity (30 amps) with no sewer - so very expensive for what you got. No cable, couldn't get our satellite to work. It had been raining & was pretty muddy too. We probably wouldn't stay here again unless it was for only 1 night & we were certain to get a more level site. - K Martin

This campground has seen better days. Everything felt old and crumbling. Friendly staff. Lots of permanent sites, so it must be friendly. But certainly lacking in upkeep. - John and Judy Hill

We stayed at this campground for a few days over Columbus weekend. Our site was gravel but we sunk in and had to relevel twice. They did get an unusually large amount of rain a couple of days prior to our stay, so that probably contributed to the issue. We very much enjoyed our stay and even got a fireside story from one if the hosts. We would definately stay here again. - Travelindog

We stayed at GrandView for 12 days in an RV. It is a beautiful campground in a lovely little CT town. There are spacious sites for tents, RVs and also many cabins. The couple that runs the campground is friendly, gracious and very helpful. They take pride in the upkeep and treat everyone like family. The 50 amp spaces were in the open, so no shade. But, the beautiful campground makes up for it. They have a nice pool, a game room, a loft with board games, etc. The only amenity we missed was a laundry. We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area. - GranNan06

Very rustic and old. Few amenities and services. Owner hovers like a hawk. Hilly, dirt pads. No cable. There are much better values in CT. - Delpell
Oct 2015 - $40.00
We needed a place in the Hartford area and even tho this one was due to close Oct. 1 she welcomed us with warm hospitality. The grounds are spacious and beautiful - we enjoyed seeing the Fall colors. The laundry is more than reasonable. It looks rustic, but the machines do the job. Because it was the end of the season, there were only two other families - nice and quiet. The owner referred us to a few places for meals and was attentive to anything we needed. Higganum is beautiful - out of the way but worth the trip. - LFClary
Aug 2015 - $40.00
This is a quiet park in a rural wooded/farmland setting. Our site was reasonably level but required a couple boards under the real wheels to level. Our site had 50 amp electrical, water, and sewer. The water pressure was a little low. Mid-week, the campground was not very busy. Most of the other occupied sites were seasonal rentals. Spoke with the gentleman across from us who was very friendly and spends every summer here to be near his family. He said most of the time the campground is very quiet. There are no planned activities (which is fine with us). There is a pool but we never saw anyone using it. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They frequently circulated through the campground to check on status but were not intrusive. Getting to the campground from I-95 in a big rig was a little challenging. The Little City Road is narrow and winding with many rocks and trees on the sides of the roads. At least the speed limit is 25 mph and there was not much traffic.
We were in the area visiting family and if we return to the area I would be happy to stay again. - Randy & Sharon

This is a mostly seasonal park with many old run-down units. The access roads within the park are in awful shape with potholes and overhanging branches. They need to do better with making people pick up after their dogs. Many remains lying about. You must travel through several residential neighborhoods before reaching park. The literature says it is big rig friendly, but we do not agree. We will not stay here again. - birdlady4810

This campground has definitely changed for the better since the last review that was left in 2003. My husband and I (and our cats) really enjoyed this campground and we highly recommend it. We've been to many campgrounds and this is one of our favorites. It is in a very nice neighborhood in Tolland, CT. We ended up staying for much longer than we had originally planned. When you first pull into the campground the sites are out of view. Beyond the office you will drive down a lovely pine tree-lined road beside a small lake- beautiful setting. One of the owners was frequently, deligently attending to the upkeep of this lake (which allows swimming). There is a great selection of wooded or open sites. For the children there is ball field, playground, rec hall (with video games, pool tables and more) and the lake. They also have propane available and a small general store. Furthermore, the restrooms and grounds were always clean. We saw a maintenance man at the restrooms everyday as well as someone attending to the grounds. The staff and owners were so friendly. They truly went above and beyond- great people. Definitely give this one a try! - bandh

Canadian Goose excrement littered the campsite. We tried to clean it up with paper towels, but it wasn't enough. We were literally laying in it. The men's bathroom septic was backed up from the time we got there. Excrement on the men's bathroom floor. No place to go except outside. The front reception desk brutally rude. I was sick when I got home with flu symptoms. - Robyn Levesque

Read the previous reviews and can see their point, the bathrooms were terrible. It's a country bumpkin place no doubt. Yet, if you're looking for some quiet time on a lake or quiet country roads the this will do. I'd not tent here but if you are self contained i.e. RV and don't mind using your own facilities then this is a good place.
It's quiet and right on the lake, good place for small kids to catch Sunfish and enjoy the lake, great views of the country and if you cycle then Route 207 is a good route, decent shoulders and challenging hills. Again, if you use your own facilities this is a good place, if you need to use theirs don't come here. - koeka
Jul 2014 - $55.00
The Camp Store is an old dingy cement block building with dilapidated furniture, poor game room, and lacks amenities. The owner charges $20 for gate key which they said would be refunded when I checked out. Also charges extra for cable hook up. Owner refused to return gate fee, after discovering a math error. Owner needs every dollar even though I paid for the site in full when I checked in. The site I stayed was muddy with other nearby sites harboring debris attracting insects. This place is not worth staying. The only good things were the lake and leaving this tired run down place! - shasta63

May 2011 - $50.00
We stayed here on memorial day weekend. We were a bit disappointed with the lack of activities for a holiday weekend. My children had a great time with bike decorating and the bike parade but, that was about it. There was a craft activity (bring your own craft), line dancing (about 4 people), and a saturday evening dance (I think the same 4 people there) - That was it! The pool was a bit cloudy and very cold. The temp is understandable but, cleanliness is inexcusable. We stayed in the 70's section. Water and electric services are not located in normal positions. We had to go to Walmart and purchase a 30 amp extension cord to reach. The circuit blew a number of times if running AC and microwave. The beach and lake were OK to look at but, I would not let my kids swim in it, nor did they want to as it was very mucky. Another complaint is that there is only one bathroom at the pool/pavilion area. It also contains a shower. Plan on a long wait if you gotta go. If you do go here, consider the safari field. It looked MUCH better but, community fire pits only. I don't see us returning here. - Grafton MA camper

This was an awesome campground. It has very friendly staff and campers. Great sites: get a waterfront one, they are so beautiful. It's very clean everywhere. Has super clean showers and restrooms. Very dirty, the pool isn't open from viruses in water. Creepy neighbors, trashy, it's more like a very nasty trailer park. Took an hour to back into our spot! Our camper was the nicest there. Barley big enough for our camper. We would not have chosen to stay here but the rest of the campground were about closed for the year. We've seriously thought about traveling all the way back home 16 hours to take back our camper and stay in a hotel here..that's bad. Not A very nice town either. There is quite a few playgrounds here but they are very old, falling apart and very dirty. I would not recommend this campground. - M holmea
Jun 2016 - $45.00
I've never posted a negative review ever but I would be remiss if I didn't post that my husband and I would not recommend or return to this place. The memories of camping here are not positive. The topography is NOT travel trailer friendly AT ALL. I have a teardrop trailer and had difficulty navigating to our site. The owner are very nice. Many of the campers appeared to be intoxicated and seemed irresponsible. The views are of dumpy dilapidated trailers -- ownership has not taken pride in it's upkeep. Lawns have knee high grass, debris from former seasonals still there, platform "patios" with missing and rotten boarding. I would not suggest this place even at $10/night. We paid $45/night. We will never choose a camping site without checking reviews first. - dneilson2
Jun 2012 - $42.00
Called ahead for reservation. Told them the size of our motorhome. Told no problem with full hookup. Got there, and we were "too tall" to get up the hill for full hookup. Because of low hanging power lines had to stay in no sewer site. Campground is terrible. We bent our tail pipe coming in due to driveway not graded or kept in good condition. They wanted to charge $5 per person to visit. My family was coming for dinner. Guests are not allowed to use the pool, so why the charge? Probably because of the low life looking, permanent campers at the campground. Lots of aggressive dogs tied up outside of old, run down, dirty campers. This was absolutely the worst campground we have ever been in. Please take my advice and don't camp here. I only used this campground because it was the closest to my relatives. Next time, I'll drive 50 miles if I have to in order to not stay here! - jenbeau1
