We stayed at Bonnet Lake from Dec 1 - March 1 2019. I am amazed at some of the remarks made about this campground. It is a 55+ park so yes there are older people here but I have never met a more welcoming group of people. We were here no more than 5 minutes and people were coming up and introducing themselves. Then in about a half hour 2 ladies showed up with a welcome bag and lots of laughs. They let us know about all the activities at the park. Our site was in one of the 2 pull through islands. Our lot was level, clean and decent sized. I couldn't believe all the activities going on - cookouts, fish dinners, potluck, cards & games, quilting group, trips, weekly meetings w/coffee & donuts. The pool was heated and the whole park was clean. Our site was in one of the 2 pull through islands. Our lot was level, clean and decent sized. The managers were good at keeping the rules and being involved in everything going on at the park. In our 2.5 years for traveling this country, they are one of the best managers we have encountered. If there was something broken, they were right on it. I just can't say enough good things about this park. We will definitely be coming back to this park the next time we are in FL. Although the park address was Avon Park, we were really closer to Sebring. We camped at Bonnet Lake Campgrounds (55+) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

You should go to see the racers at Sebring. Have breakfast at the Broken Egg (Broken Egg's Eggs Benedict was awesome).

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Beware - the website doesn't reflect what you get when you arrive. We drove in at 4:00 pm on a weekday and no one was in the office. There was nothing left for us regarding our confirmed site #, etc. We had to call a number they did provide. We were given the wrong directions to pull into or site (the hookups were on the wrong side) and had to pull out, check with the "office" phone number and received an apology for giving us the wrong directions. There really is no grass between the sites merely weeds, dirt and stickers. We drove through the grounds and discovered mostly permanent, probably retired, sites. Only a couple of them were well kept. The access streets are very small for our 40 footer and given the initial wrong instructions, it was even more difficult to park. Unfortunately, being from the area, I know it is difficult to find a pleasant, clean and safe place to camp. We were there for a class reunion so the "lodging" was needed despite the few choices. I would never go there for a "vacation" even though the area is ripe for tourists. There was no trashy or "junk" in the smaller area we were in (for a total of 6 other campers) for what I assume were "transients" for a few days stay. But neither were there trees of any kind or grass. BEWARE of sugar sand. Although, our site was relatively level. People were quite friendly. Unfortunately, they did not make up for the lack of pleasant surroundings. Despite what they may say on their info, there is no wifi/internet. It has been "blacked out" on their site map. You can receive a few stations on TV from the Tampa area via antenna. Unless this area is an "absolutely required area" stay, DON'T! We camped at Bonnet Lake Campgrounds (55+) in a Motorhome.

Office staff was very accommodating. Site was difficult to enter due to the slope. Neighbors were very pleasant and extremely helpful. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Bonnet Lake Campgrounds (55+) in a Fifth Wheel.

Internet was only available in recreation hall. No outside benches supplied. Most people are quite elderly and have been coming here for years. Most own their lots and don't really welcome new comers. Clean but very old fashioned. This park is also situated in central Florida which is a long way from either coast where most attractions are. We camped at Bonnet Lake Campgrounds (55+) in a Fifth Wheel.
