Jun 2009 - $15.00
We have been camping here for many years: it's a nice place to camp and there is good fishing. Don't see much of the camp host now. Bathroom/showers are always clean and there is plenty of hot water. Needs a swimming hole. A previous review said there were gators: there are not. They have beavers which come out at night and make the wake. Bass, bluegill and catfish are abundant in lake. Also has nice boat ramps. - Happy Camper1
Dec 2008 - $15.00
We have been to this campground several times - last time about two years ago. Little about the facilities have changed in last ten years, except Wi-Fi (likely 64K DSL going off-site). Don't know their cleaning schedule as men's showers looked like something at gas station; women's were clean. Campground host played music LOUDLY during daytime, as well as on Friday night; partiers came in on Friday night and host did not instruct them to tone it down. Forestry worker started his leaf-blower at 08:15 in the morning for a tank and a half worth of pointless rearrangement of oak leaves. We came to this campground, during the week to find some solitude. The American flag was improperly displayed, as well as tattered, torn, faded, weathered, and unsighted. We've become too tolerant of this level of intellect in the South. We DID enjoy watching the alligators transit the lake during the evenings, their presence annotated by their wakes reflected in the glare of security lights from the opposite shore. Campground hosts can have a great impact on experience. We will likely visit some other Blackwater park, or Open Pond (just up the road in AL) the next time. - johngalt
Jan 2008 - $15.00
This is a very family friendly campground. There are hiking trails and plenty of places to fish from. The Host has supplied wi/fi for a donation to the cause, call ahead for camsite availability. Cleanest restrooms I've ever seen! We arrived at 11:30pm and the Host was out there helping us set up camp! This campground is well worth the $15! We most definitely will go back. - adkborn

A primitive campground located northwest of Baker in the northeastern part of Blackwater River State Forest. All paved road access to and within the campground (unlike Hurricane Lake North CG, where access is via several miles of clay/sand/gravel roads). Simply follow the signs from SR 4 between Baker and Munson. No hookups, but water spigots are located throughout the campground. Dump station available. No swimming area due to alligator presence. Most people here were on a mission to fish the lake. We would consider coming here again in cooler months, but certainly not in summer with no electric for the AC unit. - The Happy Traveler

We found the park to be very well kept up, the roads were paved all the way. It is well off the beaten path so come with everything you need for your stay here. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. The fishing was wonderful. We have fished several different lakes in the Blackwater Forestry and this is our favorite. The only recommendation we would have is to stock the lake with Black Crappie. - Joan Ellis
Apr 2014 - $20.00
Of the two Hurricane Lake campgrounds at Blackwater River State Forest, this is the more developed campground. But although the roads are asphalt paved in the campground itself, the roadways to the campground are graded clay/sand/gravel treks, and they can be a bit potholed after rainy weather. You might want to call ahead for road conditions. The campground is across the lake, but about 5 miles by road, from the primitive Hurricane Lake South CG. Some sites are paved, others sandy gravel, others somewhat grassy. Many sites are adjacent to the lake. No swimming due to alligators. Bathhouse very clean. No C-Spire/Sprint voice or data phone service. DTV caught in the middle of Dothan, Panama City, and Pensacola markets. Quiet, far from civilization. Be sure to bring food and fuel, there is nothing around for miles. We would camp here again, but check on road conditions first. - The Happy Traveler

Aug 2017 - $14.00
Price is higher now with fees and taxes and you now get less for your money. Grass was very high, old fire pits, fallen limbs, laying all over. No host, no toilet paper in men's stall, so I left my roll for the next victim. Bugs were all over the sinks, been there awhile, so I didn't use them. We were there for 3 days, never saw host. We drove to South side. Facility very, very nice, had toilet paper, smelled good, lawn mowed, host greeted us, nice people. Go to South side, much more for the buck, nice folks there. - mike Eglin
Jun 2016 - $15.00
Beautiful location. Fishing is good (Lake is stocked). No swimming due to possible alligators. It had the clearest night sky I have seen in years because it is remote. Very quiet. Bonus: Gator Cafe in Baker (about 7 miles south on Rt. 189) has excellent food a good prices. - Frank Fish
Jun 2013 - $10.00
Price reflects disabled discount of 50'%. We have camped here several times in various motorhomes we've owned. We live in Milton and the relaxing drive and scenery is like being further from home than the 40+ miles to get there. Oh, and when you get there...WOW!! Yes, it can get crowded, but if you come in mid week, your sure to find something...maybe not lake front, but usually something. There is shade depending on the time of day for almost all spots [a few are treeless because of recent removals but all in all most are shaded at some point in the day. Yes...people do 'hold' spaces for long weekends or holidays [and hunting season], but that is not the usual behavior. There is a large open area in the middle of the camping 'circle' where children can play, however, there is not any playground equipment. Restroom are older, but usually well maintained. Fishing is good, but does have its times when nothing is biting. There are birding trails in the area and you can walk to the south side which also has camping, but was closed due to a septic problem the last time we camped a couple months ago. You can see deer which are often brought in by the campers who feed corn. Lots of birds, armadillos, too. Great place for kicking back and resting. - ckirk

Apr 2011 - $25.00
The park was littered with trash. Didn't feel safe. No bath facilities. Definitely not a good RVing experience. The park is owned by Quality Inn. At least we had to go to the motel check-in to pay our money. I have sent a message to Quality/Choice Inns about the conditions. We did have electric and sewer. That's about all I can say positive about this park. As we drove into the park, we saw what must have been the registration area at one time. The sign was still hanging on the shack by one corner. No door on the shack but it held the laundry facility. - Poppie and Nana Travel

Nov 2018 - $35.00
Very friendly staff, pleasant, courteous and very helpful. We are traveling cross country. This is absolutely the nicest park we have stayed in. - dr45
Oct 2018 - $34.00
Overnight stay traveling westbound on I -10. Easy access, pull through, level site. Friendly staff, great WiFi for nominal fee. Would definitely stay again. I highly recommend. - burt64
Aug 2018 - $34.00
This is our 4th trip cross country. We've decided to skip the KOAs & other resort type RV parks because we only stay one night, never use all the amenities & we're tired of paying $50+/night to sleep in our own RV. I always check RV Park reviews & Eagles Nest lived up to its review. This is a simple, well laid out park. Spaces are all 100' x 35' and all pull thru! Neat, clean, level gravel spaces & lanes, with grass in between spaces. Huge grass areas, well mowed with no weeds! - Bloren3433

Feb 2019 - $15.00
This campground was almost perfect! We called ahead for reservations and used our Passport America discount. We arrived around 4pm and were glad we had reservations because the park had no more open spots. Check in was quick and the office has a small camp store with some basic necessities, fishing supplies, and firewood. They also have propane. They have FHU sites, but our site (#24) was a back-in site with 30 amp and electric. There is a dump station. It was mostly level and sandy. Our spot was great because it was at the end of the "cul-de-sac". The spaces are not uncomfortably close together. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. They do have WiFi, but it was not the greatest. The best reception we got with our Verizon cell service was about 2 bars of 3G! It made it difficult to get any work done. There is a laundry room ($1.50 for each machine). They had a pretty small playground with swings. They did have horseshoes and basketball. The clubhouse had a pool table, TV, puzzles, and books, but it was locked when we tried to check it out. They did offer free coffee in the morning in the clubhouse (which is the only reason we knew what was inside). They allow fishing on the bank and have a small boat launch for guests. The restroom/shower was fairly clean with plenty of hot water. There is only one shower stall and 2 toilets. You can lock the bathhouse door for privacy. We really enjoyed the setting with the big trees and the riverbank. The slow internet and low cell signal was the only downside for us personally. We made a day trip into Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach. The weather was cool, windy, and overcast but we still enjoyed it. - nomadicfamilylife
Dec 2018 - $15.00
Previous comments about the roads are dead on, they are terrible. I have used this park as a one night stop for many years and I'm sad to report it has gone the way of many parks. It is now about 90 to 95 percent full time residents. Many are cluttered with belongs and tarps to cover their stuff. But, like I said, for a one night stop, drive slowly dodge as many potholes as you can. No over air channels and the Wifi was slow. - JimChan52
Oct 2018 - $34.00
Very close to I-10 exit. No road noise. Great place for overnight stay. Nothing close, so get groceries before you get here. I had to travel about 8.5 miles for diesel. Very clean place. No cable, but very good OTA channels. If you want WiFi you have to pay for it. - archbarb

The road into this campground was very sandy. If you decide to venture the 7 miles off of the main highway, into this park, I would recommend site 10, 12 or 23. The showers in the Ladies Bath House were filled with bugs. Bear Lake is beautiful and stocked periodically with fish. South Hurricane Lake is with walking and boating distance. Given the poor condition of the road into this campground, we will probably not return. - Pamelalena

Dec 2017 - $21.00
People, beware with this campsite, it is open, anyone can get in or out , no security, my son was inside the pickup truck with all four door opens, a guy pass by next to him, my son said hi to him, the guy spit on my front door, my son its only 11 years old, he said it will never forget it. The park was very clean, the restrooms were very clean as well,
the camp host and his wife were very nice, on the other note, the reserve
america web site map gave the impression that the camps sites are
separated, well, there are very close, no privacy, i was on site 29 and
some one tent camp on 30 , their fire pit was almost behind my camper,
this camp was poorly designed it. - Radeberguer
Aug 2017 - $17.00
Amazing improvements: New Restroom/Shower building is there. Very handicap assessable and private. Also new fire pits on the water front sites. Hope the improvements continue with paving sites or paving older sites. My site was not marked other than site number and shared the entrance with Site 24 and 25 . Other sites were very short, my pop up and truck would not have fit without being in roadway. - LE Owen
Apr 2014 - $20.00
This mostly lakeside campground is operated by Blackwater River State Forest, part of the Florida Forest Service. It is located about three miles east of Munson, where SR 4 intersects CR 191,or eight miles west of Baker. Although the scenery of the area is nice, the campground attempts to cram a quart into a cup with regard to RV spaces. Asphalt roads had speed bumps greet you, and one bump is so large that our truck scraped (highly unusual). Most of the campground (32 sites) is on a paved loop with W&E (including 50 amp service), while 8 sites are near the boat ramp and have water spigots available, exclusively for tenters. In the W&E sites, many of the hookups are on the wrong side of the camper, so every time we exited the RV, there was the electric box and water spigot to greet us. The hookups were fine, but the location was poorly designed. Dump station was a bit leafy and muddy, but worked fine. Sites are crammed together, and privacy is hard to come by. Sites were level to slightly sloping back. Leveling was easy with the hitch, no blocks needed under the tires. Some sites were dirt, some were asphalt, some were ground up asphalt that had reconstituted itself, complete with ground up highway reflector buttons. You pay at an unmanned pay kiosk, that was easy, and rules were posted. But, no one enforces rules. Dogs were sometimes loose, or put on 20 foot leashes, allowing them to come way over into our campsite, where we kept our dogs on a six foot leash. No one but us picked up dog poo. Cars, cars, everywhere, no limits to cars or boat trailers at the sites. Combined with the small site space between RV's, and the place looked more like a parking lot. Yet, there was an overflow lot that was void of cars. People were parking in part of our campsite and never thought a thing of it. Camp host drove through on the motor cart, but never stopped, and enforced nothing. You could tell the host had been there a while given the amount of "stuff" around that camper. Bicycle trail was in terrible condition, actually impassable and trail blaze trees had been harvested. Hiking trail system was nice, pretty. Prohibitions separating hikers from bicycles were posted, but no one enforced. Never saw a county law enforcement vehicle or state forest personnel the entire weekend. DTV coverage on the batwing included strong CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and some indie signals. CSpire/Sprint coverage was 0 bars/0 data. No swimming in this lake, but it is allowed at neighboring Krul Lake Recreation Area two miles west. Most campers here are interested in fishing and kayaking in the lake. Only trolling motors allowed. The fish were biting. Lots of bear warnings, but there were no bears here, and you could tell it was a non-issue because the dumpsters had no bear-proof latching. People were quite friendly. Based upon the many sites we have visited around the U.S. and Canada, this CG rates just barely average, primarily because of the small sites and tremendous numbers of vehicles and boat trailers. We will camp in Blackwater River State Forest again, but will opt for other campgrounds, not Bear Lake. - The Happy Traveler

Apr 2017 - $15.00
We had a great time camping. We have been camping here over 4 generations. It's gonna come to a end soon if they go to reservations like Blackwater State park does. All campsites at Blackwater show reserved online, but there are lots of sites with NO ONE camping in them but you can't use them cause someone has them reserved. It is ridiculous. The horse stables are suppose to go to it too. Before long there will NOT be any campsites available for camping in any of these campgrounds and I HATE IT!! Love taking my granddaughter's camping and won't be able to get a campsite to take them. I have e-mailed Tallahassee office, talked to rangers, etc... The system is not a good system cause campsites are reserved but nobody in them!! I am hoping and praying Krul lake decides against it!!! - Pamela Morgan
Jun 2016 - $15.00
Our family has been camping here over 15 years. Lifeguards allowed bullying on the platforms on water, pushing throwing people, just meanness, still today. Swimming is awesome, campground is awesome, bathrooms are clean, great showers. NO pets at all allowed...Under 10lbs would be good and enforce it. Example: NO Pitbulls or shephards, SMALL PETS...or leave. Just suggestion from me. Host are polite and helpful, campsites are cleaned up, no cigarette butts etc. as of May 2016.......God Bless.
Excellent for family, freshwater swimming is AWESOME with sandy beach. Nice walkway for hikers, walkway is boards for a mile and a BEAUTIFUL bridge to cross over stream and benches to sit on. We bring our grandchild (9months) on walk HE LOVES IT. Peaceful and relaxing.. - Debbie Dee
Nov 2014 - $20.00
This is a first come, first served park. Many sites were available when we camped in November. Beautiful, clean, quiet with spacious, mostly level sites. Showers/rest rooms adequate and clean. Park host friendly and gracious. Relaxing views of the lake from the campsite. Remote area, no verizon service. I gave it a 9 because of no pets rule, otherwise would have rated 10. - petdoc
