Great place to bring kayaks or other watercraft. Easy access to the water's edge. Roads to navigate to the site are windy & narrow. The site was all concrete, double wide & level with a picnic table & fire ring. There's a nice off-leash dog park nearby. One complaint was that it was very noisy from a neighboring section on a Sat. evening; setting off firecrackers (my dog freaks out) and playing loud music. I'm sure this was not allowed but there didn't seem to be anyone patroling and stopping it. Our site was near the water and there's a nice area to walk along or just sit and enjoy the large lake. Free Wi-Fi internet; not very speedy but hey, it's free. No cable TV but picked up about 14 local stations with the antenna. These sites are on the actual military post (must be active or retired military to use) so you have to go through the ID check at the gate each time but it's manned 24/7. The park is not really convenient to stores or restaurants (nothing on the post either) so come prepared. Drive into Starke for these, about 7 miles one way. Cost per night = $31.25 per night (+ 12% tax), PLUS a daily pet fee (if you have one) = $3.27 per night (+ 7% tax). Total for us for 2 nights = $77.00. We camped at James E. Johnson Memorial RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

There are actually 3 campgrounds in Camp Blanding. The first and third are for self contained trailers, 5th wheels and motorhomes. The second is the only one that has bathrooms. We stayed in the 3rd one which is just a very large parking lot with concrete (very long and wide) sites. VERY easy to back into and get around. The sites on the left are sitting next to a hill. The sites on the right as you enter sit nearest the lake. All clean, all with electric, sewer, fire ring, picnic table and grill. Plenty of room to park the unit and tow vehicle. Staff very friendly, but did not know till arrival that the boat ramps are closed till February or March 2017. One draw back to this campground, if you are in the sites on the right as you enter, the walkways to the lake are on the same side. It seems that some people like to walk and even drive their ATV's through your site even under your canopy to get to the walkways. RUDE...RUDE! However, it is a nice quite place to sit back and relax as long as you take precautions with camp materials! With this being the ONLY thing wrong I give it...Two thumbs up!! We camped at James E. Johnson Memorial RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Not too much to do except sit back and relax! Middleburg is NE about 8 miles and Starke is west about 10 miles. Try the Sonny's BBQ in Starke, food good and staff friendly!

Overall Rating:

This is a great park, nicely shaded along a lake front. I was only staying one night and didn't want to unhitch so the concrete pad on space 11 was great. I arrived late. As far as I could tell, and from the info from other campers, there wasn't a shower and restroom facility anywhere nearby available. Aside from that it was top notch. I would stay again. To get there, enter the main gate on Hwy 16, then make the first left, then an immediate first right down to the water front, then turn left and follow the shoreline for about 2 miles. We camped at James E. Johnson Memorial RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Military / National Guard ONLY. Must enter at main gate on Rt. 16 - don't believe guidance from GPS to go to other gates. Many sites spread out over three camp grounds overlooking lake. Many nicely shaded sites. Many boaters were at camp. "New" camp ground is best with nice concrete pads and shade. Difficult to reserve by phone - office closed on weekends and after 16:00. About 1/2 way between Jacksonville and Gainesville. Out in the country and quiet. We camped at James E. Johnson Memorial RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Tent Trailer.
