This was one of the worst campgrounds we have stayed in. Roads are sand with lots of pot holes, sites are all sand. There is no gravel or concrete. Sewer connection was so high that I wasn’t able to use. Ticks. Many many ticks. Check yourself often. As the campground was bad the springs were awesome. We rented kayaks and swam in springs. The deer in the campground come right up to you. We will never return to this campground. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Provided you understand it's a state park in Florida (meaning one should expect dirt roads and sand/gravel sites in the campground along with the Florida menagerie of insects like mosquitoes and ticks), it's a very nice park. Deer freely roam through the campgrounds. While the sewer connection is above grade to protect from flooding, since so few Florida state parks have sewer, one with a sewer connection is worth the slight inconvenience of having to lift the hose to help it drain. The on-site concessionaire is great -- very friendly and helpful staff. While the BBQ they serve is no-frills, the food itself is fantastic. The spring is enjoyable for swimming. However, if you're not a snake person, be warned: They could have named is Snake Spring. It was filled with snakes. They are non-venomous water snakes, but seeing that many can be a little unnerving if that's not your thing. :-) Both the paid and volunteer park staff were friendly and helpful. We plan to return. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Try the BBQ at the concession stand by the spring. Lots of snakes, but they never bothered anyone -- leave them alone and they will leave you alone. :-)

Great park in a great location. Staff was friendly and helpful. Like the trails. 8.5 miles of easy, lot to see hiking. The campground area and facilities are well maintained and clean. The boardwalk is great and provides a lot of sights in the swamp area and along the spring. Great for observing from above the manatee and fish. A good variety inhabit the area along the spring. Love the deer walking through the campsite in the morning and evening. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park is a gem! The park and campground are surrounded by lush forest crawling with wildlife. Deer romped thru the park. We also saw turtles, gators, but no Manatees. It was wrong time of the year for the Manatees. The springs were crystal clear and cold. Once you get used to the 72 degree water, the snorkeling was amazing. We stayed in the Magnolia loop that has full service. The restrooms were new and clean. The pull thru site was large enough for me to not have to unhook from our 34' 5th wheel, but we did so we could explore the park and the surrounding town. There is also a fire pit and picnic table at our campsite. The road in the campground was in need of some grading, lots of pot holes and tight turns. You just have to go slow and we had no problem navigating our 34' 5th wheel. We just took it real slow. Cell signal was poor at only 1 bar for both Verizon and ATT. Only phone calls and texts got thru. No DATA. If you travel the 2 miles to just outide of the park you get service. We got a handful of tv stations over the air. The park is about 6 miles from town with restaurants and grocery stores. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

As another reviewer said it is hard to criticize this campground because of the price. Florida residents receive a 50% discount off the nightly rate. The access roads to the loops are paved, but the loop roads are dirt and seriously need to be graded. Campsites are level for the most part, some paved concrete, gravel and the rest dirt. Magonila loop has full hookup but the sewer connection is useless. It took me awhile to understand why the sewer connection was higher than ground level. If the sewer connections were at ground level and the natural spring overflowed, as it has in past years, the rising water would flood the sewer system. The sewer connection being a foot to a foot and a half higher than ground level makes it difficult to dump your holding tanks. The campground does have a dump station but there again the connection is higher than ground level. There is abundant wildlife to watch and enjoy. We experienced not problems with gnats or ticks. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Travel Trailer.

It is difficult to criticize Florida state parks, because they are such a good price, and generally very good. They had not graded the campground circles recently, so getting to the site was a challenge. Very bumpy. We were happy to see that the spring was full and clear. Water and power worked properly. No Air TV reception. Very easy to find. Wonderful to have the deer wander into our site, obviously friendly. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

There are only a few spots that can handle a 40 ft. 5th wheel...but the one we had was a really nice pull through....deer are quite friendly and do not appear to be afraid of people. The spring is quite pretty. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We took a pontoon boat tour on the Suwanee River which was a highlight of our stay. Also, the concession stand has great BBQ and beer! WiFI can be used near the concession stand, but is absent throughout the rest of the park.

Love this park. Our site was perfect for our rig. They accommodate small to large but list 40 ft as max size which is what we are. They only list a few sites as being large enough for 40 foot but we found several others that would work just fine; 5 and 12 were our favorites. All of those sites are on the Magnolia 1 loop. I do NOT recommend anything larger than 40 foot not because of the sites but because of interior roads, turning radius, trees, and overhang. A few sites are paved, a few are gravel, the reset are, well...dirt. Most are level but some have low spots that will collect rain. Park is 6 miles off US19 in Chiefland. Campground is another 2 miles after the gate. This is great! Quite, no road noise, great night sky. Every day and night we saw deer and raccoon and we saw wild hog mom with three piglets. These are hog NOT boar with tusks. Please DO NOT feed the animals. We like nature so we love this park. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Have fun IN the park. Plenty of trails. Swim in the springs. Fish from the dock. We saw two manatees at the end of the boardwalk but the water really was getting warm so they didn't congregate. Use Andersons Outfitters for your paddling needs. We did the nine-mile paddle from Fanning Springs. Andersons also has great BBQ. Enjoy the stars, take an evening hike on the Sink Trail. Produce market on US19 is great.

This is another nice Florida State Park. The campground has three areas. Magnolia 1 is the most modern area with FHU and a modern bath house. We stayed in the Hickory camping area which was also nice. All campsites have reasonable spacing and have plenty of shade. We enjoyed the spring area and the boardwalk out to the Suwannee River. The entire area is very peaceful and scenic. I would give the campground a higher overall rating except the bath house we used (Hickory loop) was old and not very clean. I get the impression that the staff is not paying enough attention to this situation. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The town of Chiefland is approximately 6 miles east of the park. I was able to receive a couple of OTA TV stations from Gainesville but reception was marginal at best. T-Mobile coverage was available but marginal.

This is one of my favorite state parks and it wasn't our first time here. Roads can be tight and some sites are difficult to get into. Choose your site carefully. Deer walk through the campsites every night. It is so peaceful and quiet. We stayed two nights. The natural spring is so beautiful and swimming in the summer is awesome. In the winter, manatees take over the areas to spend time in the warmer water and swimming isn't allowed then. There are some nice hiking trails. We will come back again and again. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park is big for a state park. Roads around campsite not the best but was wide enough for our 28' class a. Just some pop holes and not paved. Each trailer/RV site had good amount of room. We were on the Magnolia 2 loop which is newer has full hook ups. The Hickory and Magnolia 1 are rustic with only water and electric, dirt sites. Tent sites mixed in with the Trailer/RV sites. Water pressure was great and so was power. Restrooms reasonably clean and had hot water. No ATT signal. Wife had one bar Sprint. two public broadcast stations only OTA. Town about 6-miles down the road. Good BBQ restaurant and Wally World store. Springs were nice and not to busy week of July 4th. We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Not a great deal in park to do. They do have canoe and kayak rental to do the Swanee River. Some hiking trails but not very well marked. Town is close for stuff you may need. Gainesville easy drive to do some stuff at UF. There is Dudley Farms State Park (1800) farm with buildings still in place, close by nice place to visit.

We absolutely loved the park!! Great for nature and relaxation. The only thing is that they have "Buffered" sites now so you might end up on a gravel site or worse a concrete one. I would suggest to stay in the Hickory Loop if possible. The deer walk right up to you and let you pet them. We took a canoe trip for 20.00 and saw a couple of manatees. The dock at night was amazing!!! I almost forgot we had that many stars in our sky. The only BAD thing is the biting gnats. They don't seem to mind bugspray so maybe something with alot of DEET in it. We def will be back!!! We camped at Manatee Springs State Park in a Tent.
