This park is a gem along the panhandle and that is why we return to camp here whenever we pass through. It is a 208 acre park that the Henderson family sold to the state of Florida to help preserve this unique environment. 6000 feet of scenic shoreline with sugar white sand beaches looking out to the Gulf of Mexico. It was opened up in 1991 and it now has 60 campsites located in four loops all with w & e. Backins and some of the largest pull throughs I have ever seen. Boardwalks that go out to the beach lined with sand pines, scrub oaks, southern magnolias, dune rosemary and wildflowers. There is also a nature trail that follows along one of the last remaining & endangered coastal scrub communities in the Fl panhandle. Typical Fl state park with great bathhouses that also have laundry facilities. The town of Destin is growing and it reminds me of Myrtle Beach with less traffic but it is still very busy. Restaurants, hotels, shopping, construction can be found here and a Walmart right across the street from the park. This is one of the nicest Florida State Parks and reservations 11 months ahead can be tough to get but it is well worth it. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park, but I have to agree with another reviewer that the park has indeed sold out to a local expensive private resort, and has allowed them the run of the east end of the beach! Also correct is that there is very little security in the camp ground area. Beach is heavily patrolled during the day for things like alcohol use-with the exception of the east end- no rules seem to apply to this area. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites at this campground are the most private I have ever seen. We could not even see any neighbors from our site #18. The site was a long pull-through with more than enough space for our 43 ft. toy hauler and we even had room for the rear patio. There is a very nice walking path to the beach, and every evening we enjoyed gorgeous sunsets. The location is perfect for visiting Destin. T-Mobile,Verizon and AT&T worked well there. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is next to US Hwy 98 between the highway and the beach. The beach is about a 1/4 mile walk from the campground along a scenic boardwalk. The campground has many spacious campsites with lots of large pull-through sites. This park seems to be especially popular with big rigs. Super clean bath house. I was able to receive a number of OTA TV stations and my T-Mobile signal was good. The park also had good wifi while I was there. One of my favorite parks. Lots to do around Destin. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

PRO; Close to beach, fairly well maintained. CONS; NO security in campground area-park has a day use area, and the campground with no checkpoint separating the two. Many times I have seen people who do not belong in the camping area driving up and using the bath facilities/showers. Plenty of park personal during the day, no one around at night. East end of beach has been taken over by people from a expensive new nearby hotel who don't seem to have to follow any park rules, such as no alcohol, and treat the area as their own private resort complete with beach service and waitress services. Very long line to get into the park during the day. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an extremely popular campground for locals and visitors to the area. We are here currently for two weeks, and as soon as someone leaves, the site is taken by new arrivals. Usually have to book well in advance. The sites are pea gravel lined by landscape timbers. they are long and wide with a nice patio area. They have 50 amp power and water, but do not offer sewer hookups. There is a nice dual dumpstation on the way in / out of the park. There are 4 loops with 20 sites per loop. There are two restroom / bath houses that are clean and well kept. The water ranges from scalding hot to cold, depending on the time of day, and how many have showered. The path to beach is about 1/2 a mile for the campground, but you could drive to the day use area where the walk is shorter. The beaches here are absolutely some to the best you will find anywhere. My only possible negative would be the water pressure is a little subpar at the sites. It seems to be fine at the bath house, so maybe an issue with the water lines being too small in the campground. We loved our time here, and in fact I have already made reservation for the fall when we come back through the area. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The beach is the highlight, but there are so many great restaurants in the area, you will gain weight while here. Many good shopping venues for the wives. Traffic can be brutal, and especially now with the road construction.

This place was great. One of my favorites and I don't even like the beach. Destin has literally change my opinion on the beach as I am a mountains guy. The campground was clean, you felt private even though you were next to everything. Obviously the fishing was great, we tagged out twice on our limit. Multiple great restaurants in walking distance. We had the beach to ourselves multiple times. We will probably be back on a yearly basis. I loved this place! Front office staff nice. The rum I brought was great. Just a great overall campground. I just wish the walk was a little closer from the C and D loops!! We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

We spent a total of 14 days here and although we liked the proximity to Destin and the beach, we will not be returning. After a few days, we began to notice rats in the vegetation between our campsite and the next site. We brought the issue to the attention of the park ranger who thanked us but said there was nothing that could be done. He said it was likely the result of local construction where the soil has been dug up, and the rats had to move on and find a new home. Being from the Chicago area, we are not new to rat issues, but thought rats are mostly an inner city problem. Upon cleaning up and getting ready to move to our next campground, we discovered the rats found their way into our Weber Q grill. This is gross and disgusting. Also, if you don't like roadnoise, this may not be the park for you. The campground is just off the main road, and when sitting outside there is constant roadnoise. Lastly, the bathrooms and showers are cleaned daily starting at 9:00 am. Since there are no sewer connections here, we use the bathrooms/showers. The timing of the cleaning is not ideal for most. Other than these issues, we enjoyed our stay. Campsites are spacious, restrooms are clean, and the beach is beautiful. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful state park, because it's so popular we had to change sites after 3 days. But both sites were great, very spacious. Nice walking trails, could be a little more dog friendly. (no walking dogs on beaches). Will stay again. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful state park, nice site privacy due to vegetation (some the best we have seen), nice paved trails and raised walk leading to the beach. The beach front is 1.5 miles wide; we walked to a local restaurant via the beach during our stay. There was some road/area noise (concert) during our stay, even given the distance the campground area is from the road, we found that surprising-but we still enjoyed our stay. The angle of the site that we stayed in, compared to the road, and the dense vegetation on the interior road limited our swing room when backing into the site (possible, but it took a little time); many of the other sites would be easier to back-into (i.e., better site angled, compared to the road, and there are also some very large pull-thru sites). The larger pull through sites can easily handle big rigs. An oasis in a congested area. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very well kept park. All private sites. We're glad a previous review mentioned Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou state park. We went there for hiking and kayaking. One of the nicest parks ever. The camp hosts, the Cooks, did an amazing job keeping the place clean and were very nice. The sites were large, well kept, very private. The laundry was excellent. The path to the beach was beautiful and the beach itself was amazing, not very crowded. My only complaint is getting back into the park, it was frequently difficult due to one line in for day use and campers. We had ordered a carry out pizza and it took 18 minutes to get back into the campground at 6:00 pm. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our second time here and once again we are not disappointed...the sites are so secluded from each other and very large...the staff is excellent and very helpful... the services are top notch and everything is very clean....strong cell signal, AT&T...no wifi we used our hotspot....big rig friendly and this is one of the few campgrounds we have been to that the clothes line is already there for you....level sites...we got a last minute site so our 36' mh fit with room to spare but most sites are a lot bigger and it wouldn't be any problem....nice walk to the beach and riding your bike around is nice too.....we will be back.....
