This park is Old Florida. There are two campground loops. After you enter the park Dogwood loop is to your left, the road around the loop is very narrow and more suited for tents and small campers. Down the main road, paved takes you to a gravel road that is the Magnolia loop. This is a dirt loop with a shower and bathroom in the center. It's a bit tight with many trees and bushes. But we managed to get on site 28 being careful in a 40' Motorhome. No sewer hookups but 30/50 amp electric and water. Dump station is on the way out. The roads in both loops are very dusty and makes a mess of vehicles. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

Really like this park. As mentioned on their website, the roads are narrow and a little twisty in the campgrounds. We did fine in our 36' Class A - just gotta go slow and be careful of the trees (and their low hanging branches). Sites were mostly level; we still needed to use levelers so that our tires wouldn't hang in the air. Unfortunately the river was a little high so there were no canoe rentals; but the hiking made up for it. Lots of hiking to be had here! We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

Magnolia loop: Shady, rustic, most sites fairly private. One-way loop road and sites are packed sand--not too awful, but drive carefully due to occasional potholes. Awesome system of trails, including easy one that loops from point of suspension bridge and back. Good Verizon signal and over-the-air TV reception. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice sites- divided by rails- dirt/sand . Make sure when you book site, check site accommodation- recommended length- pretty accurate. Good ground cover for privacy. Showers/bathrooms clean. Dump station more convenient to Magnolia loop. For larger RVs Magnolia is easier to maneuver than Dogwood. Site 32 was corner site with road leading to Youth Campground (used by many for walking dog). Great museum on CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). Love the suspension bridge and original buildings. Have cabin rentals available. Nice easy terrain nature trails. Canoe/ kayak rental if water levels low. Lots of ticks- bring bug spray!! We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

CCC museum - on site, multiple nature trails. Swimming in river when water is low. Current was swift and water high mid February. Canoe/ kayak rental - when conditions permit. Grocery shopping 10-15 minutes- High springs, Fl. Can ride bikes thru park and access trail near by. Close to many local springs, Troy, peacock, and Gilchrist Blue Springs. Peacock has a nice interpretive trail.

We explored both campgrounds loops while we were here. As already stated in other reviews, the Magnolia loop is easier to navigate with larger rigs and has larger campsites. The Dogwood loop is closer to the entrance and is suitable for tent camping and smaller rigs. This park has some nice hiking trails. There are also places to ride bikes. This is another nice Florida State Park. It is reasonably close to I-75. I would certainly go back again. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The town of High Springs has a supermarket and some restaurants. Lake City, 20 miles to the north, is much larger with all the modern conveniences. There are lots of natural springs all around this area. There are many opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, etc.

We've stayed here several times in the Magnolia Loop as an overnight on our travels east and west. Roads are tight with lots of tree over hang. It's about 10 to 12 miles off of I-75. Our site was well kept. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

Bathrooms are very clean, many of the campers agree. Showers are very nice, lots of hot water. No AC, but there are fans and plenty of air flow in the bathrooms. Mixed electric services, 30 amps on all sites, some have 50 amps. Roads are limestone/sand with some potholes. Magnolia is an older campground with a narrow road. Some of the sites are quite difficult to get in with larger motorhomes/fifth wheels. Lots of vegetation between sites. Small playground avail for the kids. Short walk to Day Use and the trailheads, for both hiking and biking. Fishing and swimming available. Interesting geologic feature, the Santa Fe River goes underground at the Park and comes back above ground at River Rise Park, another park under the management of O'Leno. Lots of opportunities for equestrian trails as well. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

If you have a long rig, either motor home or fifth wheel, stay out of the Dogwood loop; try to book in the Magnolia loop if possible. The scars on the trees in Dogwood are evidence that you don't belong there! Pull behind trailers shorter than about 25 feet should be OK, although some sites, and the loop road, would still be a challenge. I rated this park average. The bathrooms are clean and the day use areas are fairly nice, but the campground roads and sites need attention. The loop roads are dirt/packed sand, pot holed and narrow. The day use area is popular with the locals, and that's where I think the Park puts it's money. The hiking trails, streams and sink holes in the Park are mildly interesting, but worth the hike. We probably won't return here unless we just need to camp in the area for other reasons. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We were in the Dogwood loop and booked late because of Matthew destruction on the coast campgrounds. As mentioned in earlier reviews, the roads are very difficult to maneuver. The trees come right to the edge of the roads so it makes tight turns difficult. Our site, 49 was quite difficult to get into with our 25 foot trailer. We made it but it was a challenge. Hook-ups were water and electric, so sewer. Sites were clean because of the great host staff.

There are lots of hiking trails. We took our kayaks south on 441 to the first bridge where you can find a canoe outfitter who will pick you up down river and bring you back. We traveled a little farther south on 441 to the ramp sign on the road and followed directions to the ramp. We launched there and paddled up river to where the river re-emerges from underground. The river was very quiet and beautiful. It was well worth the trip. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Another wonderful Florida state campground and park. So glad we found it!! We camped in Magnolia in a motorhome, roads are a bit narrow but manageable if you take it slow. Bath/Shower House was clean, showers hot but no A/C! Site was shady and spacious.

We saw a panther!! We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park was created by the CCC in the late 1930's, and has since been updated with water and electric. At least four sites have 50 amp service for larger rigs. Dump station is easy to get to on the way out located far enough away so odors are not noticed in the camp sites. Dumpster also located there. Sites are more suited to tents, pop-up or travel trailers because it is necessary to dodge trees while parking in the site. The entire campground is heavily wooded providing well shaded campsites. Site improvement is in process, but will probably remain a more rustic type of area with dirt roads and packed sand/gravel driveways.

Because it is a smaller park and wooded, it is relatively quiet. We enjoyed hiking, bird watching and just being outdoors. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The campground loop roads need much improvement - sandy and full of pot holes. Sites are sandy and most have a little wood fence around them. Most sites are large and shaded with trees and shrubs between the sites. The Magnolia Loop is the nicer of the two. The bathhouse is newer - roomy, clean showers, well maintained. Magnolia is also closer to the river and activities. Many sites in the Dogwood loop are not level. River Sink trail is a nice walk. Very interesting how the river goes underground for miles. Some mosquitoes but not too bad. I would give it a higher rating if the campground road was in better shape. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.
